Legoman123 Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 (edited) Why that date? Maybe on the 13th for my birthday. That's the date of BrickCon. Oh and I don't think I can wait until your birthday to see pictures. ;-) Edited September 29, 2013 by Legoman123 Quote
Navy Trooper Fenson Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 You're all mad! Royal guards are awesome minifigs! Surely it makes a nice change to get a different minifig instead of yet another Stormtrooper? Don't get me wrong, I love stormies and have an army of them but with any luck the Royal guards will be updated a little from the last ones. The drawings in the catalogue look the same as ever and show all the new/updated figs with their presumably final design. The guards also come with the black hands so we don´t even get the good version but the no-effort one since LEGO apparently is unwilling to do more than 5 different hand colors outside of CMFs anymore. I wanted a change from Stormtroopers too but in the form of officers and Death Star Troopers, those are in a much greater need of a BP than Gunners and Royal Guards. Quote

It has been a very long time since we have gotten a bunch of storm troopers in a battle pack. The last one was the endor one but we only got one storm trooper. The only other way to get more than one storm trooper is to buy the expensive sets and still we only get a maximum of two. Quote

I loved that EU bp in what was it? 2009? 3/4 Stormies and a Dark Stormie. Even so, I think the Kashyyk bp will be one of the best battlepacks yet! Quote

Even so, I think the Kashyyk bp will be one of the best battlepacks yet! Agreed, I just love the ones that give us lots of the generic ones because those are the ones we would want armies of. Not really a big fan of the 2011 battle packs, the mandos never even fought the clones and the bomb squad troops only appeared in one episode. I too am looking forward to the kashyyyk one, even if there not generic they look so cool. Quote
FuzzyBallz Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 Finally a chance to get a few royal guards without paying an arm for the emperor shuttle! Might get those kashyyyk clone troopers too. Perhaps the general grievous bike and figure as well. Quote
Artanis I Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 I liked this year's Old Republic pack, it had 2 generic Sith troopers and 2 generic Republic troopers. Just a pity that TOR isn't as popular as OT or it would've been hugely successful. Quote

JVM Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 Meh, again, I'm pretty happy with the Royal Guards. I understand if people aren't happy with it but really, BP's haven't been great for army-building for a couple years now. The aforementioned Bomb Squad Troopers come to mind, as does the Elite Clone Troopers one. Quote

The bombsquad pack failed completely, not only where there to many bombsquad guys, the visor on the helmet was different then the one from all the other clones and that really put me off... But at least things are looking up with the new Clone BP's. Edited September 30, 2013 by Cyberbricker Quote
Rogue Angel Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 You get a Stormie in every other OT set you buy. I wouldn't want one in the new BP. I would have preferred 2 DS troopers instead of the Royal Guards, but I'd take Royal Guards over Stormies any day. Royal Guards have been in 5 or 6 sets total with 2 of those being $250+. Plus, their pieces are useful for other builds too with the red capes and the torsos. An Imp officer would have been OK, but I'm happy with just the Death Star Gunners. Quote
LegoFjotten Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 You get a Stormie in every other OT set you buy. That's not true for the current sets. Looking at S@H, the only set other than Death Star/Ewok Village to have a regular Stormtrooper is the Endor battle pack. The Droid Escape has two sandtroopers - and that's it for the current lineup. I was exaggerating, but it does seem like a lot of sets have them. I ended up with 20 more off Endor BPs and TIEs, so that's probably why. I wouldn't mind seeing new versions of the Stormtrooper and Rebel BPs, but I don't want them watering down other BPs. I had to buy twice as many Endor BPs to get my Endor Troopers. Quote
Tariq j Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 As long as TLG redo some battle packs then I'm happy, hopefully they'll do a 501st one and a stormtrooper one. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 Ignoring what AFOLs want, what is the purpose of the set and what is its target audience? The purpose of the set is to be used to build armies, and it's targeted towards kids. These kids probably won't have accumulated a large army of Stormies and only want more Royal Guards, and for both AFOLs and kids, no matter how many Stormies you already do or don't have, you're not going to build an army of Royal Guards. Unless you just happen to be called madoka.... I'm hoping that the final version will have an updated line-up: 1 Royal Guard, 1 Death Star Gunner, 1 Imperial Officer & 1 Stormtrooper. That would be a great combination and I'm sure it would sell really well, but it's probably wishful thinking! Quote

I know the final set will vary somewhat from the prototype pictures, but I don't think they usually alter the minifig lineup after it's been decided. Quote

Artanis I Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 The head is on crooked... I prefer a solid helmet with a real face on the head, like the recent TIE pilots. Quote
