The helmet is as accurate as it can be in this scale, but the problem that makes it look odd is the size, compare it to the original phase II clone helmet or even the phase 1.5 ("ARC trooper") and you will see its a bit taller, I actually believe that this helmet would replace the head of one of those hasbro figures very well (with more detail).

To me, it's not primary about accuracy. But I disagree with your statement that it's "as accurate as it can be in this scale". I disagree as well that it's primarily a matter of size. The phase I helmet and the Stormtrooper helmet are out of size as well, as basically all Lego helmets are to a certain degree "out of size".

I agree. It doesn't need to be proportionately accurate. It needs to have a clear 'LEGOish' look and it needs to be instantly recognizable. Sometimes and often that means exaggerating some features and maybe cutting out some others.

Still they could have made it so that you can fit some ARC stuff on the helmet...

I agree if they did it for the phase 1 clones, the mandalorians and the arc troopers then why didn't TLG do it for the phase 2?

For the new phase I troopers featuring the last wave's AOTC sets, the same old helmet molds from the TCW sets were used. I think that the TCW phase II helmet molds were designed with the purpose to be used for the phase II PT helmets as well. In the PT, there were no ARCs with the exception of Cody's visor. That explains as well why Rex' phase II helmet has no holes (same mold, different printing).

So to me the questions are why TLG decided to make one mold instead of two (for TCW and the PT phase II helmets), and why TLG decided to make this one mold without holes rather than with holes. And I think the underlying rationale is that TLG came to the conclusion that the helmets look better without helmets, that the PT hardly features ARCs anyway, and that having phase II TCW helmets with holes is of minor importance.

I would guess it may have come down to a trade off in the mold design. It all depends on where they can hide the seams and how the part release would work. If I am not mistaken the main mold seams run straight down the front of the helmet for the Phase I and Mandalorian helmets. The greater molded detail on the front of the Phase II Helmet may have made it more desire able to move the mold seams, and that in turn might have caused an issue with mold release for molded in holes at the temples. In a design conflict the holes were probably viewed as the less important feature and were sacrificed for an improved base helmet.

There may not have been ARC's, but Commander Cody still uses a visor on he's helmet, I wonder how they will fix that... Of course they will probably just skip him. :hmpf_bad:

Maybe a new mold? I mean they did a brand new mold for the arc trooper which was only in one set.

After some close inspection with my collection, I think your point is the main reason why TLG removed the holes.

The phase I and mondo helmets you can clearly see a seam right at the center of the helmet, slicing it left and right.

As for the phase II mold, I hardly notice any seams, especially the front of the helmet, indicating the mold is much more complicated than the previous ones.

If I remember correctly, on the 2005 Phase 2 helmet, the seam would be running along the bottom edge of the helmet. But on that helmet, they were able to put a hole in the helmet -- the visor hole. (It was much larger than these little accessory holes, though.)

I took a good look at the Phase II helmet and indeed i would be hard to fit holes in it, but still, they could have altered the design. :hmpf_bad:

Arealight has some ROTS helmets with holes on the side and a visor like the old official helmets AND seams. It´s not like they are prone to breaking or for whatever reason we need seams. The helmets work with holes so LEGO did a crap job with the design of the P2 helmets.

There was an update at the Star Wars Celebration in Europe yesterday. Producer Dave Filoni (Clone Wars) revealed some concept art from the Rebels show due out in 2014. One of the pictures showed the main ship called "The Ghost". It looks a lot better than the Twilight from the Clone Wars. I figured that it would definitely show up as a future Lego set and since the show comes out in 2014 that this news would fit the 2014 pictures and rumors. If not feel free to move or delete mods.

Picture of Ghost and Logo:

And McQuarrie style influenced stormtroopers:

Just thought some people might like to see what may appear in future sets!

That ship looks really nice, a bitt like the Mill. Falcon.

Also not a fan of the McQuarrie Stormtroopers :(

The pic with the TIE crashing down on the planet looks good, can't wait to see more of it!

You like the New Wookiee then .

By the looks of it, if we do get McQuarrie Stormies, they will use the existing mould with new printing. I actually don't mind how they look, halfway through the show they will probably be updated to have the armour we all know and love.

On Eurobricks, we require everyone to post in English. Thanks.

What did I miss? What Stormtroopers?

Same I don't know where they are either

The stormtroopers were seen and CEII, and are based on early concept work by Ralph McQuarrie, but know one knows if they are going to be in the show Rebels or not.
