Borex Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 The prices of the Microfighters are quite high imho. 17 euro (as stated on a dutch site bol.com) for such a small set. I don't call that a cheap way to collect mini-figures and it even spoils the fun of building/ or collecting these sets anyway. I thought they meant to be the bridge for a younger generation to start collecting SW-lego? Isn't this too pricy then for kids? The rest of the winter-wave; Most of the sets seem really uninspired. Too much emphasis on action-gimmicks, and too less on accuracy or smart builds. I understand the battlepacks (there are a lot of clone trooper fans), but i don't understand the choice of the battle of saleucami. It's not an appealing set at all. It would be nice for once, if they made battlepacks with for instance wookies in it, or gungans, ewoks, you know. A lot of people are happy with the Coruscant Police Gunship. Is it because you guys like the set, or is it because it's a set that we never seen before and therefore great? I mean could it be that we're happy because of the lack of other really good sets? Could it be, that because of the Lego movie, all good designers had to work on the designs of the movie, and all interns got to design this SW-wave? Quote
darththeling Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 (edited) I'm really hoping the reason for those prices is that that Dutch site is gouging, inflating. The numbers seem way off. The Death Star Battle pack for example, that should be like $15-20 USD, not $30+. EDIT: Can anyone speculate as to the price point of the Coruscant Police Gunship? If it's an exclusive, it could very well include TLG's magic levels of price elevation (I'm looking at you, 9526 Palpatine's Arrest!). Ahsoka could very well be a reprint... I can't tell if that's a new torso/legpiece or not. It's got: 4 Figures 481 pieces Americans, would you pay any more than $49.99 on this one? Edited November 22, 2013 by darththeling Quote

The Death Star Battle pack for example, that should be like $15-20 USD, not $30+. Generally speaking their prices are close to MSRP (for europe) and LEGO here is usually not sold any cheaper, at least not in toy-stores (most toy-store chains here are owned by the same company). Battlepack prices seem a euro or two higher than MRSP though, looking at the 2013 range. Edited November 22, 2013 by khatmorg Quote
Phoib Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Another Dutch website puts the battlepacks at 16,99 (source), where the bol website put it at 20,99. If the difference is the same for the minivehicles, those would be at 12.99, the same range as the planets. Quote
CF Mitch Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Bol.com is being ridiculous. A couple of weeks ago it tried to sell me a game strategy guide for €26, when almost all of them (no matter what game/-series) are €19. Those prices go up and down all the time. I wouldn't pay any atttention to it until the sets are officially released. It's actually pretty ridiculous the sets are on the site already... About the microfighters. They don't seem particularly interesting to me. Kinda cute, yeah, but that's it. Some of the figures look very useful though. But as said, it's a bit too expensive to use the microfighters as army builders (for example, with the Phase II Clone troopers in the micro turbotank). Speaking of which, are the white (standard) non-CW Phase II clone troopers 'scheduled to make an appearance', or? Regards, Mitch Quote
donbarca Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 police gunship will be 549dkk (danish currency) to my knowledge that will convert to a 60 dollar set Quote
BrickG Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 So no hint of the rumored AT-AT and Slave I yet. Summer? Later than December? :P Booo. Quote
Lobot Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 It will be interesting to see what the actual RRP for the new microfighter(?) sets will be. The current series of Planet sets in the UK are priced the same as the Battle Packs which is, quite frankly, totally nuts! The last series was on constant sale for months, and even then they weren't flying off the shelves (I got several at 50% off). I just hope that it's in the £8-10 range otherwise I'll wait for a decent sale. I'm sure that they're great fun for kids, but I'm happy to pass unless they're seriously discounted. I'm really impressed by the new Palpatine though, he's really cute! Quote
Phoib Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 It's actually pretty ridiculous the sets are on the site already... It's mentioning a release date of 15 December, with the microfighters being scheduled for 15 March. They usually offer stuff a few weeks in advance. Quote
The Legonater Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 So that Gunship looks about as ugly as the reference. I have enough Shock Troopers from the old battle packs, this is a pass. I love the new Palpatine, though. Very reminiscent of the version from the first LEGO game. 8 years and they finally release one. Not sure if I've commented on the other sets this wave yet (I seem to be coming to this section of the forum less and less...) but it's a pretty weak wave. Most of these sets look more like Prelims than anything else - and here I thought LEGO's quality had been steadily improving. On the bright side, more money to pump into LotR and Hobbit sets. Quote
CJBERRY Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 New Palpatine looks great Microfighters price will hopefully not be more than £9.99 or it will be a case of waiting for offers and sales. Its annoying that the 4th series of planets are limited in supply / shops, I've had to pay £11.99 for them from the local lego shop, but its been offset by some online bargains. Outside the microfighters and battle packs nothing is really grabbing me from the initial wave, although seeing things close up in the shop often changes my mind :D Quote

wesker Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 Really love the detail on Palpatine's robe. Shame Lego doesn't do the same for Padme with some of her more glamorous outfits. I agree they went a little overboard with the wrinkles on Palpatine's face, but the head is still a nice improvement over the previous figure and its great tthat we finally have the option of having a non-deformed Darth Sidious. TeufelHund Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 The only thing kind of lame is that you don't know the difference between "fact" and "opinion". Not the only thing, 'cause you don't know the difference between someone being serious and someone trolling you a bit ;-) Of course it's my opinion that the new microfighters are lame - I only stated it was a fact because you were so self righteous in your response lecturing on about the difference between fact and opinion and all. Objectively if you look upon them as a minfig and a few useful bits they aren't completely awful I'll admit. Chill out and let me have my opinion even if I state it strongly - isn't that what forums on the interwebs are for? Quote

The political-correctness zealots are kindly requested give us a break and let us slam TLG especially when there are perfectly valid reasons to slam them. Microfighters are lame, planet series were lame, and you really need to be a blinded fan(atic) to state otherwise especially if you are into Lego for a little while longer then last two years (& are over 21). Both are invented to salvage TLG profits in the midst of a huge economic crisis and are subject to criticism from esthetic, pedagogical, creative and every other point of view. Just how many sets do you need to represent an entry point to Lego? Battle packs in times of normal economy fulfilled that role to the letter for over a decade and there was no need for salvaging profits by introducing low-costers into Lego system line. That said, I completely agree that Microfighters as opposed to the Planets line can be contemplated as a bag of useful parts coupled with an interesting minifigure, it's just that that kind of stunts were usually called polybags or exclusive figures and were distributed as part of marketing strategy, not commercialized for profit. And overall, I am just really curious about the age-distribution statistics on this forum, coz I seriously don't get that of 100 posts, 90% of them are people getting ecstatic regardless of what TLG serves us. One of the forumers summed it in one sentence: The Lego movie is out in February, all the creative talents were dedicated to that project, and it fell to interns to design the SW 2014 Winter wave. strangely Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 As much as I hate to admit it the microfighters are pretty lame. I like the figures and I like the parts, and that's why I will definitely buy a few, but what they are by themselves as a product kind of sucks. Honestly if I were a kid I wouldn't want those at all. I wouldn't want a single minifigure with a microbuild of a much bigger vehicle. Even being poor as a kid I would have rather saved up for something bigger or at least a set that has more going on. These sets seem boring to me as they are and are only good in relation to what I plan to do with the pieces. So on that level that level they sort of fail. Quote

Personally I just see them as a parts bag, which is great for custom builds or mocs, but as a toy for children, its not appealing at all. Quote
Only Sinner Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 I don't really like being able too see the trooper's neck from under the hetmet. I would have prefered the baclava type head from the new OT troopers. On the Microfighters; Nice figs, great parts packs, and cute designs for kids and chibi fans. I am definately getting them all, and likely several of the officer, clone and the droid. Too bad they put in a pilot droid instead of a regular droid. Maybe the set would have been too much of one color, kids probably would not want that. Quote

So I'm a blind LEGO fan just because i like the microfighters as well as my 6 year old(targeted age) son??? sorry but that's a completely BS statement and you're either way over the targeted age range or don't have any kids of your own in that range to get an opinion from(which you didn't state in your post) and if that's the case then your point isn't valid. As much as I hate to admit it the microfighters are pretty lame. That also isn't a valid point. you're not a kid right now and you cant just assume that you would have had an adult mindset as a kid and not like these sets. again ive shown my 6 year old and around 10 other kids in that range from my family and friends kids and they have all like them with the Falcon and X Wing being the favorites. they said that it was cool and fun looking. they liked that a figure fit in the ship even though it was small. they also liked the flick missiles(yes, kids like them) look, i have no problem with peoples opinions on sets but when people say a set sucks and state is as a fact, well that's just silly. You do bring up a good point there, the target age range are definitely loving these sets, I can't say the same, but I'm not the target audience. However I must disagree with your point about: "you're not a kid right now and you cant just assume that you would have had an adult mindset as a kid and not like these sets". I know that when I was a kid I loved things being to scale, and thought it was strange buying action figures because they were usually the same size as the cars they came in. Maybe he was referring to the way he thought as a child, and just stated it as if he were assuming how he would think as a child. My point being this: we are not the targeted age range but that doesn't mean we would like it even if we were. These microfighters are not viewed as sets in my opinion, and I think they would just take up space. But that's just my opinion, saying otherwise would make me sound just..... silly Quote
