Legoman123 Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 It depends. We usualy get leaked pics mid-to-late-December, but the set names can come at anytime. I believe last year they came in early December. Thanks a lot mate. Quote
commandergree123 Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Why no commander fox?????? It looks great but really, no fox? Quote
darththeling Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 (edited) I've been thinking hard about these new sets and the price points... maybe there are more observant fans on this thread that can school me... is this latest wave indicative of some sort sort of price-shifting going on, namely the lack of higher price point sets as well? Every wave we generally get a couple of $10 sets, then a $20 or two and so on... culminating in an $80 set, a $100 set and maybe it'll go as high as $150. Recently, Jabba's Palace, Grevious' ship the Manevolence, etc. There were plenty of big kits in 2013. I'm still looking for funding for a number of them! There's no way I can get the new Gunship, AT-TE and Sail Barge unless I knock over a bank first. This 2014 winter wave... well, there's no real high price point kits at all. This may also be part of TLG's "brilliance" at doing microfighters. As an adult fan I agree with the anti-microfighter sentiment, however I do have a fairly decent Lego allowance each month... generally kids do not. Yes, you can get Han Solo in a cheap $20 set but the Falcon? No, families with lower disposable income and kids with a little allowance to spend are going to eat these kits whole. There is a considerable spending power being offered to younger kids with this kind of wave. I still think it's a win-win for adult collectors and kids. They get kits within their budget... we get a chance to build more armies. EDIT: That new red canopy piece for the gunship is beautiful. Edited November 24, 2013 by darththeling Quote
Im a brickmaster. Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Yeah, Im really loving that gunship. Cool looking vehicle, plus two phase two Shock troopers? If you complain your crazy! As for our friend the micro fighter, what's with the hate? I think there cute and have a nice selections of figs. If your really THAT a posed to them then DON'T BUY THEM! Quote

They get kits within their budget... we get a chance to build more armies. EDIT: That new red canopy piece for the gunship is beautiful. The high price point sets you describe are always apart of the summer wave, not the winter wave. The winter wave's highest priced set is usually around 60-70 dollars at the most. I have personally actually noticed the prices point of sets have gone up. The Battle Packs of 2013, are sold for a very reasonable proce of 12.99$, but the battle packs that or coming out in 2014 are going to be 16.99$, same goes for other sets like the Imperial V-Wing which was sold for 20$ in 2011, but the new one will be sold for 30$. Not only has the price point increased, but the value of sets in my opinion has decreased. Half of the sets this year contain 1 to 2 new minifigs and then the rest of the minifigs are Battle Droids. I get putting 2 Battle Droids in 3 sets at the most, but now the minifigure slots for sets are being filled up by mass of them. My whole point is that lego is trying to apply more to kids at this point and the brand itself is changing in to something, I'm not personally I fan of. This change is evidents by such things like the new spring loaded missles, the new shooting guns and the microsets, which have no really value other than something cheap to buy that's easy to build. Again, I personally believe Lego making the star wars brand a lot more kid friendly with simpler builds and more action features leading to a price increase for some reason. I too am, very pleased, by the police gunship's design, but I dislike the fact that we really get only two new minifigs, and there is an absence of Commander Fox. This is the same feeling I have about the Rrepublic Cannon, really only 2 new minifigs and a lack of Commander Woffle. Quote
CJBERRY Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Dont forget, disney now own Star Wars, they may have some influence over what things can be done. I am sure Lego wont abandon the older fans, but I agree the spring loaded weapon type features are clearly aimed at the younger audience. Quote
donbarca Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 if the springloaded works im very cool with it. im 25 and i really like lining up my 35 battle droids and then knock them out with my z-95 headhunter. so if they work i will really prefer more of these rather than flick fires. i dont hate the flicks themselves but sometimes they kind of spoil the design. these look like they are more integrated with the vehicle so thumbs up! ETAV8R Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 I just thought of something. I can picture the gunship with a trans-yellow piece and it taking on a classic space feel. Quote
commandergree123 Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Two Phase 2 shock troopers are fine, but they should have thrown in a commander Fox minifigure , already dissapointed with no Commander Wolffe in the wolf pack set.... But I guess the Commander Gree minifigure makes up for it! Quote
edmau5 Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 I really hope they do a Droideka that roll like the Technic version back in 2002 Quote
Final Exit Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 I suppose after the everything is at least £50-athon that was 2013 the sets being so small for 2014 may be a change but so far they all look supremely forgettable and very two or three years ago. What has happened at Lego? pretty much a clear slate for all sets I've seen so far for 2014, one City set stands out but thats it, Monster Fighters and Alien Conquest must have drained any originality and humour from the design team and they have taken a year off. I was actually just thinking to myself earlier about how Lego used up a lot of creative ideas in the past few years that it may have even hurt themselves. The same can be said about Winter Wave sets. Sets like the Tie Fighter (which I got today, really liking the set) the X-Wing and Rancor pit are just such good sets that after they are made, Lego and Lucasfilm/ Disney will have a hard time picking out what sets they can come up with for future waves. I guess outdoing yourself is a bad thing after all So far, I have liked nothing about Disney's purchase of Lucasfilm. Ugly box designs, terrible sets, and discontinuing the CW before season 6 all at once are things I'm gonna have to blame on Disney. Those kinda things just never happened with Lucasfilm. Hopefully the summer wave proves me wrong, because when it comes to Lego speculation I love to be proven wrong. Quote
TenorPenny Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Re: The Police Gunship: Why does the box shot show all of them fighting against the some unseen enemy..? Are they trying to avoid spoilers of a storyline that has been available for ages, or are they eager not to confuse kids by pitting goodies against goodies? Quote

Hopefully the summer wave proves me wrong, because when it comes to Lego speculation I love to be proven wrong. The TIE Fighter, X-Wing and Rancor Pit are pretty iconic though. I think the main reason these new sets are so forgetable is because the wave is almost entirely based on ROTS, and barely any of the ships or vehicles in that film are on screen long enough to leave an impression. The Jedi Interceptor is an exception, but we already had one of those not long ago. Maybe if we had some location playsets instead of just obscure vehicles it would be a different story, but for now I can't wait to get back to focusing on the other five movies. Quote
Darth Malgus Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Dissapointing no Ventress in this set. TLG have missed the mark on this one, Ventress was a massive part of the arc, same with not giving Hardeen a helmet in the starhopper set. In a normal system set I can. Wear it but exclusives really should have that little something extra in them as a whole. Quote
StoutFiles Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Micro fighters should sell better than the Planets line and they'll take up less shelf space. I liked the planet line better though, and am annoyed that a) TLG left the NA market high and dry on Series 4. They should have at least sold them online for NA. b). No Dagobah was ever made. TLG should finish what they started, and make them online-exclusive. Quote
montgocloud Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 (edited) I don't see why anyone would complain about the spring-load shooters. If they eventually replace flick-fires, how could they be a bad thing? By their very nature, spring-loaded shooters are far more effective than anything like a flick-fire. So what's the problem exactly...? Edited November 25, 2013 by montyofmusic Quote
Im a brickmaster. Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Weren't the spring shooter thingies used In mars mission or something like that? Like the seconded wave......? Quote
Legoman123 Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 (edited) Honestly, I don't think that Lego could have done a better job of the police gunship. I just think it's amazing! Edited November 25, 2013 by Legoman123 Quote
Darth Malgus Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Ventress or Commander fox would've mad the police gunship a lot better. Its a nice ship with poor context based upon the episodes. Quote
CJBERRY Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 It will be interesting to see if Lego are allowed to produce sets for the new star wars film to coincide with launch (dec 2015) and if so, just how secret they manage to keep the sets in the run up. I do think its harsh on NA that the 4th series of planets wasnt released. I guess over the years they will become collectors items to an extent, but it seems a bit unfair to not even sell them there online Quote
Freddy Bricker Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Ventress or Commander fox would've mad the police gunship a lot better. Its a nice ship with poor context based upon the episodes. While that is an opinion, I think it is very much true. Who knows, they can always give us a little burning building with Hunter Ventress, and a couple of coruscant police officers? I honestly don't think the summer wave can get any worse than this. Quote
Clone OPatra Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Who knows, they can always give us a little burning building with Hunter Ventress, and a couple of coruscant police officers? I honestly don't think the summer wave can get any worse than this. Unless you mean the Police bots that feature in some episodes (but not the ones where this Gunship appears), there are no Coruscant police officers. The Shock Troopers make sense. Also, there is an extended chase in those episodes that involves just the gunship, shock troopers, Anakin, and Ahsoka. So, though other figs could've easily been added to this set, for once they aren't exactly 'missing.' Honestly, with a ship that's at least different and has some lovely parts (that trans red), two lovely Shock Troopers (who are generic so they can actually be useful), plus two versions of main characters that are not very common, I think the Gunship is a nice set. One more figure would've been great, but I find what we do get to still be quite nice. Quote
commandergree123 Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 (edited) Yeah, the set would be more compact though. I could also see it being stacked and a few more buildings thrown in, and putting a sleet gray cover over it, looking like a kaminoan building... But really, they should make some sets that incorporate rc's.... They should do a set of the apartment building used to stage Omega, Delta, Etain, Kal Skirata and Walon Vau... with more accurate guns as well. woops wrong forum... sorry guys. Klaus-Dieter Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 (edited) Thank you very much for the clearer pictures! As an system-scale-OT-only-collector I have to say that I'm absolutely disappointed with the winter wave! The DS Troopers set is completely <insert that tiresome argument> with that canon in with the color red is used too much. Only the Imp. Gunners are good - but maybe I buy them seperately on ebay. It's not nice to see that TLG did design a new torso for the Imp. Pilot but didn't give him a new rank (e. g. five blue signs etc.). Let's hope that we'll get some much better system scale OT sets in summer! Klaus-Dieter Edited November 26, 2013 by Klaus-Dieter Quote
