eric729 Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 Wow, these microfighters look somewhat decent. I really like how some have exclusive minifigures. I believe a certain first post needs some updating! Quote
Starrocks923 Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 The Microfighters look quite silly to me. That said, I like the piece for the cockpit on the Millennium Falcon. Since when did clones sit on top of Turbo Tanks? Quote
Brickdoctor Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Which raises a question: What exactly does "Rumors" mean in the title of this thread? Does it mean discussing legitimate rumors and not starting them? Nothing wrong with mentioning that you have a source and know something related to rumored sets, but if we allow people to start making up 'rumors', then much of the thread will be discussion of lists of sets that people decide they want, and we have a thread for that. (And if we find out that you're spreading lots of rumors with no basis, lying about having sources, then that's an easy way to get Chambered or banned.) Quote
legolandia Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 Errr... 10 years ago LEGO sold an ISD at € 330, and it sold out. 5 years later they sold a Mil; Falcon at € 550, and it sold out. I'm sure a € 750 AT-AT in 2014 would sell too :-) I think you have either got your prices wrong or Lego charges a fortune in Europe. The most expensive UCS set as far as I am aware is the SSD at 400euro. A 750euro would sell out only if either it is huge (5000 pieces and above) or if Lego made 10 sets in total (maybe this last bit is a bit exagerated but you get my meaning). A 750 euro set in a period of recession is a stupid decision for a company to make and I dont think even Lego (with its huge popularity of the star wars theme) would dare to. Quote

The ISD, not the SSD, was €270 if I remember correctly. However, I doubt TLG will make a set much more expensive then €400, as their designers are always capable of making the set smaller, and thus increasing the amount they sell. An at-at for €750 would be too crazy for me, and I think TLG can make an awesome set also at a lower price point. Quote

Not sure a 750euro would be such a bad idea after all. Actually, I believe they could even go way higher for a very special edition. I'll try to explain why : Admit you have some saving on an account : => You keep there : your are loosing money (Interest rates < living cost increase), your are taking risks (bank losing your money or closing, amount not fully garanted, heavy taxes to deal with the recession) => You invest it in a company : it's very risky du to the recession => You invest in real estate : there are some good deals, like London where the prices are still rising. But it's a big investment and people are loosing money on real estate. Note that you need alot of money to invest in real estate. => You invest in gold : prices are high and will probably go down a day or an other because alot of people have both gold Other possibility : => You invest in collector items : Paintings, sculptures, cars, jewels, watchs, toys etc ... It's not a 100% safe placement, I agree, but you have something in you hands (or an you wall, or in your garage). You buy a sports car, well, you can drive it. If it looses its value, well, you had fun with it ! That Picasso you both, you can admire it every day. That Lego set, it's still there to build and rebuild and it will still be there when you have children. Buying Lego is a raisonnable choice. It's probably as safe as any other placement. The entry ticket is low. You have your set to admire or to play with. If you are an AFOL, and if you can afford it there is not much of a raison not to buy a super collector set. Car manufactures understud this : Aston Martin One-77, Lamborghini Venon, Bugatti Veyon special editions, all sold in minutes. Jewelery and watchs sellers did understand that a long time ago. Fashion designers did too. A giant Venator MOC was even sold for thousands of dollars (more than $30000 if I am not mistaking) So I believe that TLG could produce a super collector set at more than 750 euros and yet sell it very well, probably in a day. Fuppylodders Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 Sure, there would be a lot of people excluded but also there would be a lot of people that could easily afford, or would scrape it together. I don't see that it would be a bad thing, or unreasonable providing the amount of bricks to come with it was the right amount... Anyhows, this is a slightly bit off topic (should be in future SW sets)... bad me! Quote

Brickset list its RRP as £340+ which is the same as the SSD is nowadays (and the SSD sells for 400euro). Was Euro down at the time or are the Euro prices usually infalted? Even at 550 euro the Falcon was not bad because it contained nearly double the piece count of the SSD. And at the time the global recession had not started so people were spending money they didnt have without a care in the world. What I am trying to say is that a 750 euro set would probably sell well if the piece count was good and the item built was something that the collectors are really pining for (i.e. Cloud City, etc ) however in this economic climate I doubt it would be an instant sell out. Not sure a 750euro would be such a bad idea after all. Actually, I believe they could even go way higher for a very special edition. My friend, here in the UK if a bank goes bankrupt the person is guaranteed to get back £85000 of their saving (from each savings account they have). Which means that if I had £200,000 savings I could put it in 4 savings accounts in different banks and it would all be safe. Also if someone has enough savings to invest in property etc they would most likely buy a £500 Lego set if they liked it without even thinking about investment. And if one had that amount of money it is definitely better to invest it on property than investing it on Lego. Now, in the recession, is the best time to invest in the property market. The property prices, epecially in the London area, are guaranteed to go up. In fact we are in recession and the property prices here in UK still increased by 5.7%. If Lego produced a super collector set in very limited numbers (let's say 2000 worldwide) then yes, it would probably sell out (whether it sells in a day or not would depend on what the set is I would argue). However the fact that Lego got rid of the UCS name suggests to me that they have no intention in entering into the limited/super limited type of business. Quote
kermit Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Yeah the arms are darker. Then the legs should be darker too if you look at the photo. Quote
LegoFjotten Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Since the Royal Guards have huge robes and not just capes, I think the old style with regular red arms gives a more correct overall appearance. Don't mind the BP having the dark red ones though, they are easy enough to swap out and dark red is probably more useful for creating new figs for mocs. Quote
