Is Ahvialyn with you?" Ellaria then pulls the pair aside and recounts what happened to her, Boomingham and Alexander at the meeting with the resistance. "So Sir Isaac Shawe and the resistance want to kill the Pongcanis, assassinate the Mopag leader and force the elven lady to surrender so they can take over R'kilf for the Shadeaux. It sounds tyrannical, but Shawe seems to have the support of the common people of the town. What did you guys find out, then?" Quote

Flipz Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 "Ellaria! Lady Ahvialyn and I were rather worried when we couldn't find you in the Marketplace." "I'm afraid I have poor news. The elves will be of little help to us. According to the merchants in the Marketplace, they are all afraid of any harm befalling their leader, and they care nothing at all about the people of the town. If you care nothing, than you deserve nothing, in my book--they are not worthy to rule. Of course, I don't think they deserve to be evicted--but I don't know if they'd accept living in peace as subjects of some other ruler. And I doubt they'd be any use to Lord Normorn--they simply aren't bold enough to take action when necessary." "I also found out that the Pongcanae are led by the Dread Pirate Indiacca, and that the Mopags, like the elves, don't really care about the welfare of the people. Oh, and that most of the merchants have lost hope for the town." Arthur listens intently as Ellaria relates her tale. "Interesting...he sounds like the best hope for the town, he has the support of the people, and the Shadeaux...well, I can't say I think much of Noctus, but if Nuitan and Bellanotte come into power, I think the Shadeaux could be a tremendous force for good, both in Eubric and here. I met them at the Foundation Day Ball, after all. Can't say I'm much for assassination, though, but if the leader's earned it...has he, Nerwen? Alternatively, if we found out where and when to attack the Pongcanae, we could set the Mopags on them and hope they do the job for us." Arthur grimaces. "I can't believe I'm thinking like that again...second time in as many days, too. Some things never leave you, I guess..." He looks wistfully out the window. It seems like he wants to talk about something...but it's clear he doesn't know how to bring it up himself. Quote

And as it turned out, Sir Shawe was more than willing to cooperate with us. If you have nothing to add, Nerwen, I think we are best off with the resistance. Or maybe we should take matters into our own hands and just oust all of the busy-bodies out of this town." The more she thought about it, the better it sounded. They could weed out the Pongcanis, kick out the Mopags, the elves and Sir Isaac, and return the town to the hands of the citizens. Maybe they would be even willing to help... Quote

Chromeknight Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 (edited) As soon as the gate keeper unbared the keep gate,Nerwen travelled to the inn in the early dawn. Entering the lower lounge area she saw Arthur up early. He looked like he had not slept well. 'Quel amrun Arthur. Before she could ask about his night the druid Ellaria entered and spoke of finding the resistance and it's leader, the Shadeaux Shawe. Arthur chimed in with the gossip from the marketplace. Nerwen listened to all that was said. The silence stretched for a little while and Ellaria said If you have nothing to add, Nerwen, I think we are best off with the resistance. Or maybe we should take matters into our own hands and just oust all of the busy-bodies out of this town. Nerwen drew breath, looking directly at the young girl. I do have things to add. I spoke to Lady Calaryl myself and that is where I spent the night. It is informative to hear the opinions of the people in the town and their feelings toward the elves. But those feelings seem mixed. Some resent the elves for withdrawing and others for acting in the first place. However, the elves are here now, this is their home and they have begun the work of transforming the keep into a fitting residence. They will not leave their new home except by force and the effort to remove them would cause great harm to those who go to do so. I would counsel strongly against such a course. Having made their home here they will lend aid to anyone trustworthy who seeks to bring order to the town. Is it your opinon that this Shawe is trustworthy? Has he been open and honest with you? You say he hates elves, I wonder would he be so nice to me? Turning to Arthur. As for the Pongcanae, I stand by what I said on the road into town, there may be more to them than their portrayal as savage beasts. I know you do not want to hear that, but you need grant that it is possible and that non-violent means may be found to end the raids. That is the task for some of us today. Boomingham's entry breaks the tension that is beginning to gather around Nerwen and she smiles again at the people before her. So. we need only Alexander, Ahvialyn and Throlar. Are they upstairs? Anyway, Nerwen, I get wanting to cozy on up to the elves, but seeing as they've pretty much run the town to ruins, I can't say I see the benefit. If they had the means to defend the people and refused, I'd say that's pretty much murder in my books. Besides that, Shawe has promised to help the people. He's upfront about not having the most honorable motivations, but Hel, he'll get the job done, and it's what the people want. I'll be interested to see what our little Brobric elf thinks of it. Chromeknight Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 It is not a matter of what I want Lawrence, but of what is wise and best for the town. They have withdrawn because that was what the men of the town wanted. And you would do the same, you have done the same. When the reckless dwarf challenged the elf in the bar it was right to stand back even though Master Wineghilm might have been hurt. That is hardly murder. And neither is what the elves chose to do in the face of opposition. If a child refuses to heed wisdom and acts contrary to counsel and hurts themselves does the blame lie with the parent or the child. Use right judgement and do not merely listen to a man you admit has dishonourable motives. I myself have met the Grand Warlord and Lady Calaryl. I will gladly meet Shawe if he will and I think this Indiacca may be worth speaking to also. Quote

If he sees us as his opponents, I don't think he'd hesitate to try to kill us too." Ellaria then taps her lips as she contemplates. "Nerwen, you are naturally inclined to trust your own kin, but the way they refused to even speak to me and Arthur shows that they don't really care for anyone who doesn't have pointed ears. And that includes the majority of the citizens of R'kilf. I fear that if we side with the elves, they will eventually evict everyone else from this town and claim it theirs completely. I personally want to side with the people who were here first, meaning the farmers and the traders. As to what comes to the Pongcanae... I can only applaud your willingness to believe the best out of everyone, but have you forgotten what they did to that poor merchant outside the gates? I really don't want to negotiate with creatures who are capable of ripping innocent people apart so mercilessly." "Arinelda ná manaquenta, good morning." "Good morning to you too, Ahvialyn. Alexander goes down the staris and rechs the other heroes; approaching he hears Ellaria and Lord Boomingham "Sorry to be late, I was meditating." apoligizes the elven archer "Personally I think the pongcanis won't listen us; as I see, they are only interested in pillaging. If we want to speak with their chief, we must be all, in case of fight. As Ellaria, I want to side with the people who were here first. The elven and the Mopag are seen as conquerors and if one of them will power, this won't end the troubles." Arthur nods. "Exactly. Lady Nerwen, you have not borne the brunt of their brutality. They mercilessly murdered one of the bravest, most wise Heroes I've ever known, for the sole sake of enjoyment. They had no stake in Chaos, they sought merely a new conquest--were it not for the other Heroes, Eubric would have fallen into their hands." Arthur's refusal to include himself was glaringly apparent to the others. "They likewise tore apart the town of Haddon, home of one of the bravest, most honorable military commanders I've ever seen--and I don't have to tell you of what they did to aid in the ravaging of Dastan. Mark my words--the price they will require of you to leave R'kliff in peace is blood." "Still--there is yet hope that they will be the only faction to need such a manner of persuasion. What did you learn of the Mopags? What did they want, and will they be willing to help the people of this town?" Edited August 24, 2013 by Flipz Quote

Brickdoctor Posted August 24, 2013 Author Posted August 24, 2013 Throlar stares at the body for a long time, then tries to find something to bury him with, a pickaxe won't work a second time. You realize that while you can't dig with a Pickaxe, you can use a Pickaxe to break things, which means that you could break up the ground with the Pickaxe, and you'd just need something to move the loose dirt out of the hole. Sandy Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 "I think it's pretty clear from our last foray to the keep that the elves are not willing to communicate with anyone non-elvish. Ahvialyn will probably not do either, being an emissary of an opposing faction. So it's imperative that either Nerwen or Alexander comes along whenever we visit the keep. And if and when we go find the Pongcanis, I suggest we all go together in case they mean trouble." Ellaria turns to Nerwen. "So, what do we do now, party leader?" Quote

Brickdoctor Posted August 24, 2013 Author Posted August 24, 2013 Bare hands should do... Throlar buries the citizen. As the sun rises higher into the sky, you bury the dead citizen on the side of the road. Fortunately, it is still early enough that no one is out to see you doing this. Quote
Duvors Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 Throlar gouges out a small furrow between the two graves, then inserts the torso of the collapsed statue and uses the pointed end of the pick to cave a crude epitaph, They died like idiots, killed in self defense, They started it, yet I still feel horrible, They most likely had families, which makes me feel worse, They had no chance, which is worst of all.
