jonfett Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 Thanks to Mr X. for providing this screen shot. :) It is a new legend, the Black Cat which was released in 1996. It appeared on s@h for a short while but was quickly taken down. Lets hope we see it again soon. Jon.
Wolf04 Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 Holy Shi!t. Now that's a legend. B-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l. Hopefully LEGO will have it back online for ordering. :-D
sam89 Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 If there ever was a set that needed to be a legend, it was that one. Thanks Lego! :-D It's interesting that it's not on Lego's cache though *wacko*
jonfett Posted February 19, 2005 Author Posted February 19, 2005 It is also has a great price to piece ratio too. 1743 pieces for
sam89 Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 It all seems a little strange though. It isn't in the picture cache, and also, they spelt "success" wrong *wacko* Although that could have been the reason it was taken down again ;)
Cutty Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 great price per piece ratio! definitely worth its money... the model itself is truly amazing, but i personally could not care less about big trucks. so for me: great for parts!
The Middleman Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 Yeah, without a trailer, it's kind of unimpressive. :/ I'll stick to the Star Wars UCS models. Great parts though.
Jipay Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 I have the old black on with the trailer and the copter. it's even more impressive than this one. This is already the second model team set released as a legend *satis*
sam89 Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 So no one else finds it strange that "success" is spelt wrong? *wacko*
snefroe Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 Sure it's strange, but as some one said, the English mistake might be the reason why it's no longer on the website. it's a great legend, even though I was hoping for a minifig-set... the question wether i'm going to buy this might depend on the release. If death star and sandcrawler are released at the same time, then i probably won't buy it. And i would also only buy this for the bricks...
Athos Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 So no one else finds it strange that "success" is spelt wrong? I do find it strange, but Mr. X has been pretty reliable, hasn't he? Steve
sam89 Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 That's what I was thinking. It seems most likely that the reason it was taken off the website is because of the spelling mistake.
David85 Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 Lego always makes mistake in their catalogs, "three minifigs" when there are four shown, and tons of spelling mistakes. I don't like the Legend through, they just released a model like this last Legend, they should shake things up.
jonfett Posted February 19, 2005 Author Posted February 19, 2005 Yeah, I am sure that a lot of Lego fans would be happy to see some of the older castle sets. Jon.
lucajuventino Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 Fake, IMO it is a fake. Ok, mr.X was reliable, but not this time... Moreover, over 1700 for just 130 Euro??? The Rebel Blocade was over 200 Euro with about 1730 parts... I would be really nice if it would be true. Bye, Luca
Wolf04 Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 Oh man, this is at least the 3rd time people doubt a LEGO set. I just wish I could scream in their face when they realize when the sets are real...including this one!
sam89 Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 Well this is the first time I've doubted a Lego set ;) Usually I'm one of the people who gets annoyed at other people thinking sets are fake. It probably is real though, especially coming from Mr X.
Cutty Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 hmm, i wouldn't interpret too much into one minor spelling mistake... although i grow more and more sick of this "mister x" here and "mister x" there i do still think that the advent of this legend is utterly plausible. that blue hot rod set (last to be re-released as a legend) indicates legos attention and caring for their "model team"-line already. while having semi-reliable sources and quoting them is fine, having common sense and putting it to good use is a rare quality of its own. there might be something strange about the initial anouncement of this set, and i bet it is the often stated spelling mistake. if not, it might as well be the "too good to be true" price (come on! barely 130
David85 Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 Fake, IMO it is a fake. Ok, mr.X was reliable, but not this time...Moreover, over 1700 for just 130 Euro??? The Rebel Blocade was over 200 Euro with about 1730 parts... I would be really nice if it would be true. Bye, Luca Piece count isn't everything. This set has more smaller pieces so the set can be cheaper than the Star Wars set, just have to wait and see. If it is a fake I would be happy, I don't like the set. But maybe Lego released this info to a few people to try to find out who is releasing info.
lucajuventino Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 Ok, the part number is not all... anyway... Can Mr.X tell us, WHEN he was able to save this screen shot? Would Lego retire the set from the S@H just for a spelling mistake? Wouldn't it simplier to correct it? It takes really many hours for add one "s" to the text??? ??? I'm really sure that it is a fake or a joke, but nothing real. Luca
David85 Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 You don't know how Lego works do you? They put a picture up and then take it down 3 hours later and it stays down for awhile and then a month later comes back. None of this is really that odd. There is a spelling mistake it must be fake! The price is wrong, it must be fake!!! You are beginning to sound like the FBTB freaks with the TIE Collection set. Let's just wait and see, and hope it's fake so I can get something more useful. :)
lucajuventino Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 A new legend was born: :oD Luca PS: this is a fake, but it took me just 15 min... I HOPE the release of the giant truck will be true (the same wheels are now used for the new crane, so it wouldn't be really odd if they would use them also for this truck again...), but only the time will give us a right reply! Last but not least: they need months just for add an "s" and they are so good to find the mistake after few minute/hours??? And ONLY Mr.X visited the lego S@H when this set was available? This is too much for me... Bye, Luca
Wolf04 Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 Ok, that does look fake. Compare the writing of the Black Cat picture with the fake one. Check the writing of the Black Cat picture with any set, lets take http://shop.lego.com/product.asp?p=10151&c...&cn=58&d=14&t=5. You will see that the font is almost exact. Also the picture looks like it was drawn in Ldrawn or whatever program people use to make the digital sets. All I'm saying is that there is very little evidence that the Black Cat is fake because LEGO has done mistakes in the past and they have also placed and then taken down pages before. Just remember, when the Maersk Ship was first revealed, almost everyone thought it was fake because the pictures were taken by an amateur photographer. Also, lets not forget about the TIE Collection. A very similar picture to the Black Cat and everybody thought it was fake because it was a little blurry and not totally clear. All I can say is that I never doubted that the Maersk Ship or the TIE Collection were fake and I don't doubt the Black Cat is fake either, EDIT: There is one question nobody asked before, why wasn't any link given?
lucajuventino Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 Ok, check the picture from Mr.X and compare it with one taken from S@H. Title The font seems different, Lego S@H uses a "verdana" 10 dots, but in the picture of Mr.X the space between letters and words is less than from S@H's picture. Infos Item#, Price and piece counts seems to be different from the original S@H. I thought it could be caused by resizing of the picture... but if you see the other words from the right hand (ig. email a friend), those seems to be really the same! Notes We have here again different fonts. See the space between letters and words and between lines... they are really different! Just a look to the "LEGO" word: the "G" and "O" are wider than the "original" ones. "L" and "E" are instead the same. So, the release of the giant truck can be true, BUT THE PICTURE IS A FAKE, not made by S@H! Bye, Luca

All I'm saying is that there is very little evidence that the Black Cat is fake because LEGO has done mistakes in the past and they have also placed and then taken down pages before. Exactly. Lego seems to test the code to put in the set online and then take it off when it works, nothing really seems that odd to me. No one say it? Maybe someone did, there aren't that many people here and I'm sure we all don't stare at the Lego site all day. At least I don't. :-P I once got a Tetnic Remote Control car that is normally $120 for $8 because Lego made a mistake for 2 hours online, no one else seemed to notice it.
