I welcome different views if presented nicely which i think this was and what's so wrong about a thread not singing the praise of this set. While i earlier said that i would get this set i can't really justify the cost any longer compared to what other stores besides s@h want for the 9398 crawler. Sure it's a nice limited edition set and all but as others have said it's not that much different than the vehicle it's based on. I can't help but compare the cost of the 9398 crawler on s@h with what other stores want for it and not think about all stuff i could buy for that difference.

So my advice would be: is the limited edition of this set really worth it? This questions can only you reading this answer for yourself and it would be more difficult to answer if you already have the 9398 unless you have lot's of money or don't plan on getting any other large sets this year. If you don't plan on using the parts for anything else then maybe you should look into getting a non-Lego crawler. It will be more powerful and better at being outdoors but the wheels might very well be the same as some Lego crawlers. If you want it to sit on a shelf for most of it's time then you should get it. Not that i like the concept of Lego-pieces not being used but some like it.

Peter,

If you think about buying/not buying - somethink you like in 41999. So I advice you to buy it this year, cause this is the only chance to buy it at normal price.

Other sets like 42009 are new, and 8110 you have bought already, so you have nothing to lose ths year except 41999.

I think you have time about 3 monts at least to think, find financial reserves and buy this set at normal price.

This decision is not from designer who in love with his set, but logical.

Those are some valid point as well. I doubt that you are making anything of this other than the honor so i don't mind your opinions. This set will sell out, that's a given. The one thing we could argue about would be how soon but there is a poll about that already and now it's just wait and see.

As far as I'm concerned, I already have 9398, i like the new body design(love us muscle cars     ) but not so much the colors combination between body and frame, so maybe will buy parts to built it in other colors(black-red-white maybe) and exchange old body with new one for display.

Adding to this, I just bought my own house(where finally gonna have a serious display and lego room) and must ask some money to some fu... bank...so prefere to put my money in the 42009 in a couple of months :sweet: .

For sure, if I haven't the 9398 I would buy the 41999 straight away so could have a limited edition and then buy parts to build the 9398 body(less expensive than buy 2 sets   )

I can't think of any reason for you not to get 41999, at least not one that has to do with the actual set. However, if money's tight for you, and you only can buy one big set, get 42009. It has more functions, and is bigger, so there is that. However, you could also say that you should just get 42008 and 42000 instead... Really, it's up to you.

TLG knows we love the colour and so i'm sure we'll get more sets in this colour in the future

Don't count on it. rm8, the creator, stated the opposite in his review.

Anyhow. The only reason not to get 41999 is because you can't afford it, or the value it has to you is less than the value of the money you need to pay to get it. It's that simple, and in fact it's that simple with anything you want. You only buy things you deem more valuable than the money you pay for it.

I probably won't be getting 41999 as well, because I don't want to spend too much on Technic anymore because most parts I already own. That will mean I'll miss out on the dark blue, which is really a pity. But in the end, it's only a color :)

If I get one 2013 Technic set it'll probably be 42008, the green tow truck. I think it is technically more interesting, and trucks interest me more than RC cars, and while I'll then be missing out on dark blue, I'll have green instead which I would find fine too. Also I think the crane 42009 is too big and is too similar to 8421, even with the awesome outriggers, and even though I'm kind of a mobile crane person. But that's just my own way of looking at it, and everyone will have to decide and balance for themselves.

I have to agree here. I have thousands of parts and already own the 9398. I and can't justify another $200 USD for basically another one. I love the color, including all the flat silver pieces, but my budget won't support it.

I just picked up the 42008 yesterday. It was an "impulse buy", but one I'm happy with. I wanted the green, and it is the only 2H set that really interests me. I'll probably build it, then tear it down and use it for parts.

This is an intersting one. Maybe the question should be, "why should I buy 41999?". My answer to that would be because it's a nice looking model with useful parts (ie: servo motor for steering, blue panels, wheels and tyres etc) and as I don't yet have an RC model. However, to answer the posted question, It's worth buying because it's a good looking model with useful parts but if you can't afford it or would rather buy another model then take your pick. I would love one but can't justify it against 42009 and 42008. I will be trying to get one of those for my birthday later in the year. I will of course try and make my own crawler type vehicle using the parts I receive as time goes by. If I could, I would by two of the sets I like and have one on display and use the other for parts, and 41999 would be one to buy, but I'm not in such a position as yet.

I have just ordered #41999 :cry_happy:.

But still I wonder why I got so much negative responses - I just tried to gather feedback from a different point of view. This is not worthless, in my humble opinion. Every topic might become interesting / appealing to a certain group of people.

Right decision;)
