Anio Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 (edited) Personally, I disagree. Bricks falls apart too easily, especially at this kind of weight. I think the Technic design makes the hull much stronger than it would otherwise be, and it looks great as well. With few (studless) vertical reinforcement, you can built something very strong. Edwin Korstanje Posted July 31, 2013 Author Posted July 31, 2013 (edited) Yes you can build very strong with bricks and plates and Konjara makes the most beautyful ships with it and is more reallistic than mine studless hulls. Two years ago i meet Konjara at a LOWLUG meeting a loved his ships and i was then only building trucks, but i already jused the same style as now and said to him that i wand to tried build a ship from studless liftarms. The first 2 ships where ok but not so good that i wand. With mine last 2 ships a make a lot of progress and i no it's cheaper to make the hulls in studded, but than mine ships will look to much at Konjara work and than they think i am a copyr and don't like that. Konjara and i will stand togehter at the coming Legoworld in oktober in the Netherlands, Utrecht and now you can see who the builder is. Here in the photo's you can see that mine trucks are the same style as mine ships Greets Edwin. Edited July 31, 2013 by VFracingteam Quote
cloneman155 Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Truly, incredible. What an interesting choice for an MOC. Quote
maxxens Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 IIRC the choice for the model was not his but a request from the owner/manufacturer of the ship. Quote
Edwin Korstanje Posted July 31, 2013 Author Posted July 31, 2013 IIRC the choice for the model was not his but a request from the owner/manufacturer of the ship. No it was mine choice, but when contacting the owner they got have a lot of intrest. Quote
maxxens Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 So how did you get the idea to buy specially this ship? I know that you have a personal connection to the last one, what about this one? Quote
Edwin Korstanje Posted July 31, 2013 Author Posted July 31, 2013 I like the shape of the stantugs and the new colors from Smit are good available in Lego. Also the choise for the SL Gabon was simple, because it's brand new that nobody have build a model from it. Quote
SheepEater Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Is that a Jack Stone fig I see? I don't see too many of those lately, especially in large complex MOCs. Well done. Quote

Best SheepEater, Yes that is a Jack Stone fig you see ( and they are ugly in mine opinion ) Mine first two ships where at mini fig scale but with the liftarms style it wasn't work out. The last two ships i worked in the scale 1/30 and unfortunately is that in Jack Stone fig size . Lucky for me that ship building was a lot better . Edited July 31, 2013 by VFracingteam Quote
Rayskull Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 I noticed you used Technic beams instead of bricks, whats the story there? Quote

Edwin Korstanje Posted August 21, 2013 Author Posted August 21, 2013 (edited) After asking the press service from Smit lamnalco 2,5 month ago what is hidden at the main deck, and i have finaly got a answer. They are towing pins and guide the ropes for lifting big anchors for the offshore. I have made the towing pins on mine SL Gabon, only unfortunately the oval technic cams where not avaleble in the right colors and have to paint them . Also i make two Delta Flipper anchors and they fold automatic in and out. when lifting it's fold in and with dropping it's fold out. Next week the press service from Smit Lamnalco come to mine house for taken an interview and photo's for their magazine and at 4 september the replica off the SL Gabon is officially unveil at their head quarter with all the CEO and everbody how works and designed it Edited August 21, 2013 by VFracingteam Quote
Blakbird Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 How are you going to transport it? Did you build it so that the superstructure is removable? Quote
Edwin Korstanje Posted August 21, 2013 Author Posted August 21, 2013 I make a big case for it with handelbars L 1.55 m x W 0.60 m x H 0.30 m and have only remove the mast and the two cranes, the wheelhouse can stay but can remove easily. Quote

You better do somethng big like Burf2000 with XL motors to transport that huge boat:) Edvin, how you painted that oval cams? Edited August 21, 2013 by rm8 Quote
Edwin Korstanje Posted August 21, 2013 Author Posted August 21, 2013 (edited) Thats a good one RM8 Drive 40 km to Smit Lamnalco, with a havey lego transport and burn 20 XL motors down and the ride cost me 3 days with all the highways closed  The paint is from Motip and is a acryl car paint that also good for plastics and ABS, but i am not hapy that i have painted the two technic cams Edited August 21, 2013 by VFracingteam Quote
