Posted July 27, 201311 yr Anyone got a clever design for a compact winch, using PF M-Motor? Wish-list features: - free-spooling option (for fast unreeling of winch line), probably via driving ring - worm drive - clutch gear before worm - self-contained module on 5x11 open frame http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=64178 I can come up with something but it might not be the most efficient design
July 27, 201311 yr Well you could look at pictures from the new Boss crawler. Not sure which tread they are in but i do remember seeing pictures of it. It's not on a frame but it is compact. Edit Found it. It was in Egors own review. The text is in russian but scroll down for pictures of the winch. http://brickgarage.b...x4-crawler.html http://brickgarage.b...9398-41999.html Another edit https://picasaweb.google.com/ekarshiev/41999Review_markedI?authkey=Gv1sRgCOGAy-7kt5HeFw Edited July 27, 201311 yr by EyesOnly
July 27, 201311 yr Yes, wait till 1 august and you can see winch at BOSS crawler/41999 which is compact and powerful
July 27, 201311 yr Author Nice tip thanks. I wouldn't have considered mounting the winch drum vertically, neat idea. Doesn't have free-spool (far as I can tell), but ticks all the other boxes. Wonder how much line-pull torque the clutch gear can handle? My goal is about 1kg of truck on a 45' slope. Might need to move the clutch gear to before the worm? July 27, 201311 yr If i'm not mistaken then the string used in the boss is the same as in the new crane. Look at this review thread about the crane to see what i mean. Wonder how much line-pull torque the clutch gear can handle? My goal is about 1kg of truck on a 45' slope. Might need to move the clutch gear to before the worm? I don't know how much torque it handles but i've heard about people using double clutch gears to allow for more torque. I have no idea where i read that. I think that you will be fine with one if you use it as you drive and not just use the winch alone, but i'll let people with experience answer that.
July 27, 201311 yr Ok maybe i'm wrong about the string. According to bricklink the new crane uses the same string as 8421, part x77cc250 Black String, Cord Medium Thickness 250cm. Nice tow truck efferman. I like the free-wheeling function.
