Posted July 28, 201311 yr I was looking through the new LEGO catalog and looking at the Cargo theme spread I noticed this guy: I like it a lot, because it' the same size as the standard City wheel, but has a much sleeker look to it and can be attached in two different ways, as it appears. Also, the tires are sportier compared to the almost off-road older ones, which is good as we can all agree that the classic wheel sometimes looks out of place, especially on sportier vehicles. Actually, here's the comparison of the old wheel and the new wheel used on the sportcar from the High-speed pursuit set: So what do you think? I like it a lot and I look forward to more sets using it
July 28, 201311 yr I do like the new wheel much better, although I do not particularly like the city theme , I like medieval themes much better. But I am happy that you are happy with this new wheel. As said before, it gives the care a more sportive look, instead of off-road.
July 28, 201311 yr I saw this wheel when LDD was updated, but didn't knew where it came from. It's good to see new wheels.
July 28, 201311 yr I agree, looks much better to any CITYthemed cars and other vehicles. Thanks for sharing!
July 28, 201311 yr Accidentally used this in a Digital Build the other day, and then realized it wasn't widely available when I couldn't find it on Bricklink to see what colors it came in. It looks really neat, though. Can't wait to see what the real thing looks like.
July 28, 201311 yr Yes! This is awesome. Finally my sports cars will have proper, low-profile tires! I do hope they come in black, though. Edited July 28, 201311 yr by wooootles
July 29, 201311 yr Some further searching indicates the best way to get these is to buy the 10663 bucket which contains 8 sets of wheels and tyres (and a bunch of other interesting looking parts besides) Also interesting is that both models to feature these so far have used them as truck wheels and not used their "sportier" side seen in the LDD images above. So far it comes only in light bley but I am hoping it shows up in more colors soon (black for one would be very nice to have as would silver) Edited July 29, 201311 yr by jonwil
July 29, 201311 yr Author I agree with jonwil, that bucket is a much better deal - 8 new wheels and a ton of basic bricks, and the combination is quite worth the money Edited July 29, 201311 yr by imvanya
July 29, 201311 yr Author Wonder if it looks any good on the Delorean... It looks a little bit too wide and the diameter is, on the contrary, too small, but it's just my guess
July 29, 201311 yr The LDD example uses different pin/axle types. I don't see this working unless the wheel hub is also compatible with technic pins..
July 30, 201311 yr that looks really nice! Does it use the same pin connector as the other wheel you've posted? Edit: Just checked, and it does use the same pin connector! Finally we can have some diversity when it comes to wheels of that size! Edited July 30, 201311 yr by prateek
July 30, 201311 yr It's refreshing to see a new wheel in this size, from now on i hope Lego won't use the same wheel for a truck and a sports car.
July 31, 201311 yr Author The LDD example uses different pin/axle types. I don't see this working unless the wheel hub is also compatible with technic pins.. You are right, the connector on the wheel is different from the one in your picture, but LEGO introduced a variation of this wheel in 1999, if I'm not mistaken, and the smaller wheels that use slick tires were introduced two years later (the smallest of the LEGO wheels has always had a connector of this type). In 2002 there were a couple of small pull-back motor cars in the Racers line-up, and a different connector turned out to be pretty handy, as it allowed the motor to actually spin the wheels. TLG have been using these updated wheels ever since for the sake of backwards compatibility, I guess. I also think that is exactly why the new wheels use this cross-shaped connector too - backwards compatibility is a very nice thing, and they would look really nice on those Racer sets. Here are the pictures of the wheels with cross-shaped connectors (as seen at Bricklink) Edited December 10, 201311 yr by imvanya
July 31, 201311 yr This piece is already available in some countries in this set. Not in the U.S. though. That set is a little bit less than desirable than AFOLs perhaps because it uses some rather specialized 4x10 chassis pieces, but it seems like it'd be a very efficient way to accumulate those as well as other useful pieces like 2x2 jumper plates or various Dark Azur pieces. Here's the full inventory of that set on Brickset. Here's the page for the wheel and here's the page for the tire. Currently that set and the Cargo Terminal are the only sets either part appears in.
August 1, 201311 yr Jang has a nice review of the cargo terminal He shows the wheel in detail @ 2:21 Edit: Thanks for the clarification to imvanya Edited August 1, 201311 yr by SeanM
