First of all the part count is simply too high, and secondly it's far too difficult to build for non-AFOLs. Finally, like Alasdair mentioned, the gearbox is not 100% reliable, something Lego will not allow. They could redesign it, but I doubt they will put that much effort into it. Lego have already said that is extremely large, hinting that it would be too large for production. So why not reject the model like they had done with the other models that made 10,000? I can only assume (hope!) that the reason it is still in review is because they are finalising the licensing with Jaguar Land Rover. If approved, it's highly likely they will produce a scaled down version. Or dare I say it; another shell for the 9398/41999 chassis Quote

As I said in general discussion topic - I hope it will be produced and if it will I wish it would have the same type of a body CUUSOO model has - it will be a good base for mods and ability to re-create a lot of existing variations. I think also that Lego never want to sell this Technic set......... it is really to difficult. You must exactly understand how the gerbox is working to adjust it. Rockbrick Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 maybe lego are working with Landrover behind the scenes as they are stopping production of the defender and I'm sure a smaller Landrover with some functions (but i'm sure any gearbox function will be a low/high ratio affair with a small LA or something) would make an excellent addition to the corporate gift range Quote

The complex construction with the rubber bands is not really reliable, you have to change some of the same parts for perfect working. Further more there are some bugs in the manual. But build it yourself an then tell your experience. Quote

Complete with body it´s very heavy and a little underpowered with the two XL motors. But that´s not the main thing really important is the look if it´s driving! For the look (driving) i´ve build some door opener, so the doors are allways closed. (at driving they opened itself sometimes) I build one stiffener for the chassis and drive train. For the engine bay i´ve build one cover for the seven 16T gear wheels. The gearing for the steering wheel in front of the right headlamp changed to two 16T gear wheels, so it is possible to use the same headlamps (right and left). Paul had brought up a good point about the gearbox in that the main problem is that people will try and start out driving it in a higher gear which will cause problems and that it would need to automatically downshift on it's own. I use NimH Sanyo 2100 mah so you have enough power to drive and shift up and down. If your power supply is full charged you can test the gear change by driving the car but the rubber bands have not all the same strength and you must test with different fixing points of the bands. Change the fixing points of the rubber bands and test different positions but look that you have always a perfect middle position after shifting up or down. Further all parts must move very easy, i had to change about 8-10 parts to find the perfect combination. Quote

I built the transmission twice to be sure I had assembled it correctly. The battery/power supply, is this the kind that larger RC cars use? Can Lipo batteries be used with the correct voltage? I've got a loose 8878 waiting for my next build, I'll use it in the Defender and see how that helps. After that I'll start checking the rubber bands, should I make the tension of the bands tighter? Should the rubber band on the motor driven shifter be looked at as well as the shifter that engages the various shifting rings (the parts that contains 1x2 half liftarms)? Sorry for all the questions, after assembling my Defender I was dissapointed that it didn't run like Sheepos' did on his video. It does look nice on the shelf, but I didn't want it to be a 'shelf queen' when I built it.
