Anyone seen this? It seems they've chosen an art style and direction for the upcoming cartoon show. I really hope we get a decent TF show. X-D

I've heard the Manchester one's not bad, I just wish I knew where it actually is.

Well, it's... different. Not that it matters. We won't get it here anyway.

Now, if I may, I'd like to just divert attention away from the Movie (and the cartoon now) and towards a concept I'm working on. The basic idea came from Dreamwave's TF/GI Joe crossover (which I haven't read), the one set in WW2. I've always liked the idea of redesigning TFs to give them a new slant/angle. So I worked from there and devised a backstory which incorporated (I think) all the 1984 G1 characters and an assortment of others. Like IDW did, I strayed from the original G1 story, and came up with my own reason for the TFs being on Earth. I've worked out alt modes for all the characters I'm using, which are completely different to the GI Joe ones. Some of the alt modes are based on the role/personality of the character, but most are either based on similarities to the original vehicle or the original transformation scheme. I used Britain because I felt it gave me greater ability in choosing Autobot alt modes, Home Front vehicles, etc.

Synopsis

Adolf Hitler's Nazis, armed with their terrifying army of transforming war machines, have swept through the countries of the world. Only Britain now stands in the way of total world domination and the completion of a full-scale, worldwide Third Reich. The British nation, along with their Autobot generals; a lone US warship (the USS Broadside) and leader of the French Resistance Arcee, are ready to drive back the arms of the Nazi's rise to power...

Went to see FF2 today, and afterwards walked down into town. I nipped into Woolworths and decided to take advantage of the 'buy one get one half price' offer, picking up the other two Legends figs that were there- Bumblebee and Ratchet. Still no deluxes there either, apart from the Protoforms, but there were some Real Gear figs.

So, anyway, the two figs I bought. First off, neither is as good as the Barricade or the Jazz I bought last week. The robot modes aren't bad, but the vehicles are slightly flawed. Ratchet is left with a big hole at the back because of his leg transformation, and Bumblebee has those two annoying squares under his windscreen. Now, obviously, this can be slightly forgiven because of the scale, but Barricade managed to avoid it. Interestingly, Ratchet is the varient colour that's more accurate to the Movie design, as opposed to the normal Legends fig and it's bright neon green: this one's more yellow-y, which is nice. The robot modes are better though, and while Ratchet looks a bit blocky, I kinda like it. Bumblebee meanwhile is just a little bit cute. Although his arms can be a bit difficult to move, as they tend to get a bit stuck against the chest/bonnet.

And they cost

My thoughts on the movie - FANTASTIC. I was expecting it to be completely seperate from what we have seen before, but there were nods for old-school fans. Peter Cullen reprising Prime gave me goosebumps! There were a few (minor) problems - I ddn't feel the Decepticons got enough characterisation. But the SFX were nothing short of amazing, the transformations superb. Even the human story was good (for the most part).

I know people have had problems with the film, such as designs and 'too much humans', but it all meshes together. Yes, the humans are very prominent, but at 2 1/2 hours, there is ALOT of robot action in there!

Awsome! The fact that your a huge transformers fan and were impressed really makesme anxious to see this movie! Didn't expect it to be perfect, but lets be honest, what movie is? Anyways, it sounds like the good out wayed the bad. So how were the voices compared to the originals? You obviously liked prime, but how were the rest? Did the Decepticons as intimadating as they looked?

I liked the voices. They are all quite deep, and whenever they spoke the floor rumbled. Don't know if that was intentional or the cinema sound system playing up.

The 'Cons were EVIL. Not cartoon evil, but sadistic, murdering evil. You have never seen 'Cons behave this way before.

Well that was inevitable wasn't it. Too little human story would discourage some of the more down-to-earth movie-goers who aren't necessarily big Transformers fans.

It'd certainly be nice to think it was intentional.

Awsome. Iwas hoping for that. That means they fit there robot designs perfect then.

Agreed. There are a number differnt catagories of movie goers to apeal too. Nice to hear that they didin't over power the presence of the bots.

It'd certainly be nice to think it was intentional.

I hope so as well. But even if it wasn't, if the stero made up for it, then thats still ok.

I PICKED UP THE pRIME AND mEGGIE TOYS TODAY TO THROW ON THE OLD PILE AND I WAS REALLY IMPRESSED. PRIME ROCKS IN A MILLION WAYS, MEGGIE IS PRETTY RUBBISH IN MANY WAYS BUT HE LOOKS COOL.

JULY 27 FOR THE MOVIE THOUGH. I CANT BELIEVE HOW LONG A WAIT THAT IS.

Also, now they've revealed a poster for the new animated show that shows us some new autobots. I dunno I kinda like it, gives me a DC toon vibe. :-P

I guess Prowl is the bike. That's an interesting direction.

I dunno, this could turn out okay. I actually like the look of Bumblebee, and Ratchet looks quite nice. I'll reserve judgement till it comes out.

Right, as promised, I have the first design 'sketch' of my WW2 re-designs. I'm not the best artist in the world, but I like it, and try to focus on the design more than anything else. I've worked out a full transformation scheme, so it's correct in that sense (at least, as much as it can be). So, without further ado, I present Bumblebee, now a Universal (Bren Gun) Carrier.

bumblebee.jpg

I choose a Bren Gun Carrier as the alt mode partly because it's small like the VW Beetle of old, and partly because I felt I could use a modification of the old transformation scheme to good effect.

So, to transform from vehicle to robot (hope this makes sense):

1. Pull front section (cabin) forward to straighten legs, and slide wait section forward and up so it sits where the cabin was. Rotate feet up, and fold down small stands (the grey things opposite the treads).

2. Fold down sides of rear section to floor.

3. Slide rear panel section (half the back, half the bottom and the folded down side) round to side of adjacent track. The middle section stays in place.

4. Pull the inside of the middle section out in both direction to fill out body.

5. Pull track out and up so they sit in the correct place.

6. Pull hook-and-mudguard assembly up to meet top of torso. Flip head up (head sits under vehicle at a right angle to the hook).

7. Fold out fists, and place particle decelerator in hand (stored on underside next to head).

As I also promised, a timeline will follow when I have time to post it. I've already started work on Ratchet, so that should be up soon.

I dunno... they made me laugh. *sweet*

LOL. Ya, i laughed a bit as well. But its funny. These are probbly the people that said Michael Bay "ruined there child hood by putting flames on Optimus Prime" :-| Still think its stupid to pass full judjment on somthing they haven't even seen. Kinda sad really. :-/

Posted

Couple reasons attualy. One, it gave prime defenition on certain parts (or somthing to that effect) , and second he just plain wanted them. Being a director, as long as it doesn't take away from the character (whitch it didn't) then it his right to do so.

Posted

I actually don't mind the flames.

They could've gone over-the-top and painted them all over Prime, but they didn't. It's no different to G1 Jazz having his stripes, and Ratchet havong all his medic deco.

Besides, it's a different truck. Flames on G1 Prime probably wouldn't have worked, but here they do.

:-|

Flames weren't that big a deal to most fans. It's all the... other... stuff.

Diary #4 is out. :-D

Well if a huge fan like Ultra Prime enjoyed it, then i'm sure most fans will as well. WHats funny is these guys will most likely be some of the first in line to see it weather they want to admit it or not. Whats even sadder is that even if they like it, there to closed minded to admit it. |-/ As will be all the other "fans" that wined too.
