I don't know...

Wow, this next one was drawn so poorly lol...

...I'm just not feelin' the forehead in this sculpt.

EDIT: AH! Yeah, looking at these pics, the new sculpt's face is WAY too wide as well. There's not much customization one had to do with the Optimus Masterpiece... but I definitely see myself breaking out the X-Acto knife if I could afford this new Megs.

Fantastic.

Unfortunately, release date confirmed as July 27 in UK now.

Can I, on behalf of us UKers, ask those fortunate enough to see it first to not give out spoilers :)

A spoiler thread is fine, but just make sure it's obvious. Ta.

People are going gaga all over that trailer.

Me? Not really.

Not one Transformer spoke.

Too many people spoke, and their acting sucked.

The robots all look like classic videogame bosses, a head with disconnected balls.

I'm just so not feeling this, even if that makes me the minority.

Great new trailer! I'm really looking forward to this movie, but am trying not to get my hoped up. When i do, i ussually get let down with the story line. Although this seems preety promising. God line up of actors, story line seems good (from what ive caught on at least), and the animation is absolutly fantastic!

One thing i was happy to hear...

When optimus prime transforumed in front of the two kids, he made the classic "transformers transforming sound!" You know the one i'm talking about! Good sign that there keeping some things true to the original series!

Yeah, I'd like to second that.

I think it may have been slightly modernised, but it was definately recognisable. That was, as you say, nice to hear.

Why the hell is the trailer all green >:-( , or is it just my computer?

I think that's just your computer. It's green on my computer now. I think it's because you (and now me, apparantly) don't have the necessaries to watch it in HD. Which is odd, because I must have had them yesterday. If, as you do, you want to see it in all it's true glory, see a smaller (but not green) here:

I'm actually now quite liking the look of Starscream, not least because of the bit where he transforms in the air over the city street, lands, and skids through the cars. And Bonecrusher has roller blades! :-D

I noticed that too. Maybe he's using the truck mode wheels. BUt i absultly love the war cry he gives while charging at optimus prime! Great way to end the trailer!

I think he's going to be the dumb ogre like G1 Devastator, which is a great idea. X-D

After looking at some online photos, it looks like your right. He has sort of a hunched of look in robot mode.

On a side note, does anyone know if optimus prime will have a trailer? If i remeber correctly from the G1 series, he had a trailer and it housed a little scout car or somthing to that nature. If i'm wrong i opolgize. That would be cool if he had a trailer in the movie too.

I do not think so. In Ghosts of Yesterday, Bonecrusher was fairly intelligent. I think the dumb brute role will probably go to Brawl, who was strangely absent from GoY.

Well, I got that impression from the movie bits I've seen so far. ;-)

Looking at the toy, and the placement of wheels there, that's probably the case.

He did have a trailer back in 1984, a trailer that mysteriously disappeared during transformation... *wacko*

As for a trailer now, we've not seen anything to suggest it. I think I remember hearing that he didn't though. And the scout car was called Roller.

From Hasbro Transformers website:

BONECRUSHER hates everything, and what BONECRUSHER hates, he destroys. He hates this planet, and all its inhabitants. He hates the AUTOBOTS for getting in his way. He even hates MEGATRON and the other DECEPTICONS; the only reason he stays with them is because MEGATRON scares him. BONECRUSHER lives for the day when he's the only one left standing atop a pile of smoking rubble and shattered robots.

Agreed.

Anyone who dosent put spoilers in the title of a thread that includes them will take a trip to the chamber, that goes for all the other big films this year too.

So i decided to check out the transformers forums....

Wow. What a bunch of babies. I don't think some will be satisfied unless theres a new G1 cartoon. Sad really.

Yeah. By all means voice your opinion and criticise the film... after you've seen it. You really need an informed decision. Sure, it's not G1, but then neither was Beast Wars. I personally think the new designs look pretty good.

I was a regular on many a TF forum for many years, but last year the complaining about the unreleased movie got too much. Not been on a TF forum in 9 months now...

Agreed. From what ive seen in the previews, everything looks great. Story line seems good, as are the characters, and the animation is absolutly fantastic. I too am a fan of the new designs. Unfortuntly some people just don't realise that with todays CGI technology people just aren't going to accept a bunch of blocky robots running around. Weather people like the designs or not there's no denying the animation is top notch. Looking forward to this one!

Well, it didn't SEEM like Beast Wars was based inside the G1 universe, but, sure enough, by the series end all those original G1 heroes were found in it.

It's not being babies really, it's just kind of depressing. It seems like noone in charge has taken it seriously. Like, you have characters who still have faithful representations made of them in Japan and America to this day... but noone's going to give a crap about these piles of metal-sharded CGI gobbledygook guys 25 years from now.

It wouldn't have been a crime to take the first G1 story, tweak it for present-day updates, then recreate the same characters in not a quite so messed up looking manner.

It could've happened, alot of us waited 25 years for it to happen, but this movie's not it.

:-/

FANS have had little problem taking the screwy looking movie designs and turning them into non-blocky versions of the classic characters.

It's not a black and white issue of them being "CGI goobledygook" or "blocky"... the fans know what the in-between hybrid of the two are.

It's a lack of care and a lack of skill that have made these new movie ...things...

How are the characters "great" in that trailer? Not one robot spoke.

And if you've read the script that's been out on the internet for 2 years, you'd see it's written pretty badly, in an Independence Day or (American) Godzilla kind of way.

In other words, non-seriously. Just a bunch of cliche's and catch phrases.

Bay made the Transformers CGI gooblywhatever so that would look realistic, and one of the first things my mom said when she saw the new trailer was "They look so realistic!"

Sorry. But the behavior inthose forums were childish. have a fit because Optimus Prime has flames on him is just stupid. Iunderstand ther are still toys being made to this transformers, but like life. Things need to evolve, and they took the movie opertunity to do so.

See, here's the problem that i think alot of "fans" fail to realize.

Yes, the makers of this movie could have done what you have suggjested. Take the original story. Tweek it a bit and make them look like they did 25 years ago. But whenyou make a movie of this magnatude, you have more people to apeal to than just the hardcore TF Fans. You have quite a few catagories of people to apeal too.

-You have the hardcore TF fan base that have followed the series in its entirity since its start 25 years ago

-people that remember the series and watched it as kids, and are being reintroduced to TF with this movie.

-people that have heard of TF and caught a glimse of the toys in the stores, but never really knew of the storyline.

-the new generation of kids that might have the toys, but know nothing of the story line.

-people that have never heard of TF (young and old alike)

See, you can't just apeal to one catagory. You need to apeal to the general public, and what the general public wants to see and i'm sorry to say, the hard core fan base just doesn't make up enough to apeal to jujst them. There needs to be a happy medium, whitch i think (at least from what ive seen) they've done a good job of that.

In all honesty, i can't remember the original story line. Maybe thats a good thing. I won't know till i see the movie.

FANS have had little problem taking the screwy looking movie designs and turning them into non-blocky versions of the classic characters.

This is a perfect example of what i was just talking about. Fans would have loved to see stightly less blocky versions of the original characters. Problem is, you then have lost the other catagory of people that is needed to make this movie even remotely sucsessfull. With the CGI technology thats avaible, people expect the best. The makers of this movie know this, so slightly less blocky versions would not have cut it with people today. Espeacaly the younger generation that have pracically grew up with computer animation cartoons.

How are the characters "great" in that trailer? Not one robot spoke.

From what ive seen, the characters visually looked good. Maybe there voices will ruin them. Maybe they won't. Gues we'll have to watch the movie and see!

I never read the stript before the movie? Whats the point? You have ruined the movie for yourself. Sorry, but it sounds like you need to be a little bit more opened minded. Sorry to say, but cliche's and catch phases help make movies more enjoyable. You have to remember, this is a movie based on a childs cartoon. I hope they do have some fun with it and not take it so seriously.

Another great point! Like them or not, they defenatly look real!

Ok, you're going to have to help me out here.

Exactly which of those parties you listed would have been alienated if they'd taken the original characters, kept their colors and heads, and updated their alt modes to modern objects?

I don't see how making the blocky old guys less blocky would cut off some large part of an audience.

Sorry to say, but cliche's and catch phases help make movies more enjoyable. You have to remember, this is a movie based on a childs cartoon. I hope they do have some fun with it and not take it so seriously.

There was another movie whose script was filled with cliche's and catchphrases.

It also had a "more realistic" redesign of the main character.

Thirdly, it also took a "humorous" approach.

It was called GODZILLA.

You say kids WANT that? That they even LIKE that?

Is that why Trendmasters, the company who got the license to produce figures for that movie nearly (or maybe they did) close up shop because NOONE wanted anything to do with that movie?

It was embarrassing. From script, from acting, to lame attempt at being "funny", to using only the highest of the high realistic special CGI effects on a character that was redesigned simply for the sake of being redesigned...

...and it was a freaking nightmare. And alot of people lost their jobs / lost their credibility over it.

THIS is what I saw when I read the script, and it's certainly what I saw when viewing the new designs.

They're going the way of the Godzilla.

Iunderstand ther are still toys being made to this transformers, but like life. Things need to evolve, and they took the movie opertunity to do so.

There's evolution... that's what the fans would have loved.

Then there's pure bastardization. That's what's taking place.

You cannot tell me that keeping:

-most of the character's original colors in robot mode

-the robot's head

-a more faithful approach to the original story

-or the vibrant character expressed, the main attitudes, pecking order & ambitions of the main characters

...would mess up a new film. It just wouldn't. Exactly WHO would not be able to assimilate such a thing?

How is having all the robots looking like broken shards of metal supposed to create identification with a new audience?

Even more, are you telling me someone using this as a source to begin a non-block version:

Soundwave3-1.jpg

Is somehow more alienating than using THIS?:

frenzy1.jpg

Funny story about that too. That was supposed to be Soundwave. When the "Master designers" realized they were failing, they called him "Soundbyte". Then because they were REALLY messing up, they called him "Frenzy"... even though his pile of scissors silliness of a body still isn't anything as neat looking as his namesake.

How about this?

You're saying using this as a template to begin from towards a non-blocky design:

STAR15998~Transformers-Starscream-Posters.jpg

Is somehow more goofy looking to the general public than THIS?:

starscream_icky_movie.jpg

(I like how this promo pic is a side shot, so as to cover the fact he has an ape-like body)

I dunno', man.

Most of the fans have no problem with Bumblebee and Optimus designs... that was just a first reaction.

It's everything else that's... well, ridiculous.
