Captain Settle Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 "With all that's going on in Avalonia, what with people wanting to become the ruler, you may be wondering why I should take over. Well I am here to show you why." "This is Jonah. He lived in the area around Tolswick before I came. As he wasn't in a town he had no people to protect him, so bandits would come to his house and plunder it. His house was left in a terrible state. "But when I came I united all the houses in the area into a town. I gave them guards, and brought workers to fix their houses. Then more people came and soon Jonah had people to trade with. Soon him and all the other people in the town became rich." "And this is him now! He has posh and comfy garments and is always smiling." "And he also has a clean and fine house and, like all people in the area, proudly fly's the Avalonian flag." "I improved Tolswick, but there are plenty more places that I could improve if I was made leader of Avalonia. So please back my campaign to take over Avalonia." This was a Fred Thornton presentation To save time and pieces in this MOC I made it double sided. Thanks for looking. C&C welcome. Quote
Nightstalker Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 (edited) *claps* You've got my vote! Wait... I'm not an Avalonian. Seriously though nice MOC Edited July 31, 2013 by Nightstalker Quote
soccerkid6 Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Cool idea to do a double sided house showing change I like the vines on both versions and the door looks good. The second version's woodwork could be a little better in my opinion: if you could do a row of horizontal SNOT dark brown tiles above and below the vertical ones that would help Quote
Mike S Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 The second version's woodwork could be a little better in my opinion: if you could do a row of horizontal SNOT dark brown tiles above and below the vertical ones that would help Exactly what I was thinking. I've noticed that you have been building quite a bit lately. While it may seem like a good idea now to build a lot of MOCs, I'm sure it would give you more satisfaction in the long run if you focussed on one MOC until you perfected it rather than rushing a bunch of MOCs. I think you have a lot of good ideas but you just need to focus more on how to improve each of your MOCs before you post them. I had the same problem when I started here, trying to catch up with all the other great builders, I felt compelled to rush build and nearly every build I rushed with could have really been improved if I had taken some time to ask myself what I could do to improve the MOC. Now when I build, I try and take my time, sometimes waiting a few days and looking at my MOC from a fresh perspective and usually I find at least one way to make improvements. Don't be afraid to experement with different pieces for the same use. You might be surprised at how some pieces you never would have thought to have looked good for a certain use actually do. Quote
SkaForHire Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 I like the presentation a lot. I had the same concern about the woodwork, but I have built similar looking things in the past. Sometimes a quick story post doesn't hurt, and I think you did well here. I would have liked to have seen a little more around the window too. Where is that pink torso from? Quote
Lord Vladivus Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 If I'm not mistaken its from Gilderoy Lockheart from Harry Potter. Quote
Captain Settle Posted July 31, 2013 Author Posted July 31, 2013 You are correct about it being from Lockheart. Thanks for the comments. I agree that I could have added more wood, as at the moment it is quite empty. Quote
Kai NRG Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Very nice, great idea to make it double sided! Great presentation! Quote
de Gothia Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 A nice little moc you have made and that story is great! I agree with Sk regarding the woodwork on the second floor though. Quote
