August 15, 201311 yr Thanks for the pics rm8, I think that confirms it I'm going to continue down my current path with this wheel/tyre combo. I think the top pic of your 3 the wheels look too small, but something between what I have and those would be perfect and I don't like the wheel/tyre ratio for a car like this if I went the 8070 route, also in your pics you'll need a beam gap between the top of the tyres and the arch so you can have steering on the front. If I get a chance I'll post an updated chassis on Sunday night, I've had a few thoughts about mods
August 15, 201311 yr The wheels from 8440 Formula Flash might work quite well on there, they're slightly bigger than those from 42009 and 8258 and wider too.
August 15, 201311 yr Author The wheels from 8440 Formula Flash might work quite well on there, they're slightly bigger than those from 42009 and 8258 and wider too. As I remember they are 50 mm - too small, and tires from 8041 Race truck are 56 mm - thats much better I think we should move wheel arches higher - they are too low to fit big wheel with normal clearance

I rescued some blue beams from the body where they were used as the support structure for the bonnet/boot/glasshouse assembly. But that is a later Mod ... Going to see this through first. If you can get it such that the wheel centres lie on the same plane or higher that the bottom of the sill (body between the wheels) then that should look good.
August 15, 201311 yr Hi All, I'm enjoying this topic and your pictures. Keep up the excellent work and I would encourage you all to maybe take things to the extreme and start adding pnuematics, adding trailers, tank tracks etc. H
August 15, 201311 yr I received these Team Losi "Rock Claw" RC tires today, as well as an extra set of the 44772 rims in black. They are supposed to go on the 9398 i'm getting tomorrow, but i was impatient. :D Do the Rock Crawler tires not fit on the regular rims?
August 15, 201311 yr Do the Rock Crawler tires not fit on the regular rims? They do. I just don't want to mess them up, switching out tires. The white "bezel" on the custom 41999 rims were scratched before i even opened the box, so i imagine they aren't very resilient to heavy use.
August 15, 201311 yr you will need to tuck the wheels UNDER the fender so that it looks right. Basically the top of the tire will almost be touching the buttom of the 5x11 blue panel
August 15, 201311 yr Thanks for this excellent design, I build it in black with red and with the wheels idea of Jurgen. I used xl motors for driving an l motor for steering. It also has 4 lights that stay on when battery is on. More on: http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=532917
August 16, 201311 yr Nice modification :) Do you see any improvement with the XL engines compared to the L?
August 16, 201311 yr has anyone made drivetrain improvements? Since I don't have the 9398, I really don't know if any performance mods that can be done to this beast. I did the gear swap on the motors as outlined in the video, but wanted to know if there is more that can be done. Thanks!
August 20, 201311 yr Here we go, the model is pretty much finished and I'm about to go away for a few days on a much deserved holiday, so I thought I'd leave you with some pics. I've managed to get it 95% complete ... a few things left to finish and tidy ... steering (which skips but I know why as my rack is floating at the moment), IR reciever location (I think i might leave the battery pack as drop in behind the seats as its the perfect size). Things I've done ... body is fixed via a pivot at the rear and 2 blue pins at the front, removed the winch and added an extra set of lights which are controlled by the switch which i've positioned as a gearstick/shifter, moved the exhausts to the rear Enjoy. I'll most probably finish the odd bits after holiday before my next plan ... and yes I'm aware my chassis perhaps isn't the most efficient, hopefully I'll improve with practice!
August 20, 201311 yr @ Seasider: I think your 41999's center-of-gravity has shifted too far to the rear to be able to be a balanced 4x4....

August 21, 201311 yr Those are awesome mods but I have a question. My 41999 has no power to drive over obstacles! Why is it lacking torque? How can I get more torque wiout sacrificing speed as it is already very slow? And finally, how can I get more speed without sacrificing torque? Thanks
August 21, 201311 yr I am a proud owner but am I the only one that thinks the profile proportion is way off??? The wheelbase is way to short for the body it looks funny. I'm working on modding and improving the wheelbase at the moment. Will post when done.

August 21, 201311 yr Will that make a huge difference? Or just a little difference? This is how the set is regardless of battery. The L motors are heavily geared down. 9398 or 41999 both are slow and weak. Edited August 21, 201311 yr by 750ACE
