September 11, 201311 yr Author Since you are giving the instructions away for free, would you mind if I posted the LDraw MPD file so that people can see the model in 3D? I would not! In fact I am interested to see it in 3D myself!
September 11, 201311 yr Some illegal techniques? Like chopping up the old-style differentials to get 24-tooth clutch gears you mean? :D Ah well, I blame Lego for not producing those themselves.
September 11, 201311 yr In fact I am interested to see it in 3D myself! OK, the LDraw file is now available at my Bricksafe account here.
September 12, 201311 yr I get an error message when trying to access your folder blackbird. The only thing shown is a picture that says Brick not found. Edited September 12, 201311 yr by EyesOnly
September 12, 201311 yr The correct link is: http://www.bricksafe.com/pages/blakbird/Renders/MOCs/Swingloader/
September 12, 201311 yr Nice renders Blackbird :) Though I wish my Lego was that shiny ;-) D3K: I think I found another small mistake in the inventory: it lists both 4 x 32529 in black and 4 x 32529 in light bluish grey, but I think you only use 4 x 32529 in dark bluish grey in the instructions (I could be wrong, I only quickly skimmed through them).
October 7, 201311 yr Just an update. I've built this model last week and it works great! The instructions are very good. There are a few tricky spots in which is hard to hold everything together until the bracing is attached, but that makes it interesting. Apart from the aforementioned issue with the bucket occassionally jamming, it works flawlessly. I actually showed the model at BrickCon this weekend and everyone loved it. Below are a few pictures.
October 7, 201311 yr Author Cool, you model is actually more complete than mine was, as I didn't have all the parts! Did you try the suggested mod cutting the 4L differential to get a 24z clutch gear? Also, seeing it next to Han's magnifiscent hauler is pretty cool! I'm glad you liked the model, and that the people at BrickCon liked it! Thank you for bringing it and showing it off! Will you be keeping it assembled in your already massive collection, or does it have to give way for other models?
October 7, 201311 yr I've got all parts for this MOC (including a 24t clutch gear), and it's on my build list. Looking forward to building it!
October 7, 201311 yr Did you try the suggested mod cutting the 4L differential to get a 24z clutch gear? Yes, I made my own 24 tooth clutch as you suggested. It works really well. Also, seeing it next to Han's magnifiscent hauler is pretty cool!I'm glad you liked the model, and that the people at BrickCon liked it! Thank you for bringing it and showing it off! You're welcome! It was very popular. I used it to load bricks into Han's Hauler and Dump Truck. You can see some of my photos from BrickCon at Bricksafe. Will you be keeping it assembled in your already massive collection, or does it have to give way for other models? This one will stay assembled. I already have a spot picked out on my shelf for it. It is my only swingloader, so it would be a shame to take it apart.
October 11, 201311 yr Re modified 24T clutch gear:- Rather than destroy a 4L differential to get the 24T gear with plain axle hole or try and drill out a 24T gear (difficult to get concentric due to irregular shape axle hole. I used a white 24T clutch (6036892) and a standard 16T clutch gear (4237267) Knock out the centre of the white 24T gear and discard the centre part along with the metal plates. Using a 7.5mm metal twist drill by hand open out the hole in the 24T gear. Remove the 4 thin pillers. Insert 16T clutch gear ensuring the collar fits into the 7.5mm hole in the white 24T gear. No need to glue as there is enough friction to hold it in place. Fitted and works OK. This will work OK with driving rings but probably need to be glued. Excellent Model - awaiting a small turn table in order to complete the rear assembly. Edited October 11, 201311 yr by Doug72
October 20, 201311 yr Hi D3K! Thank your for sharing this MOC and the instructions! Does somebody have a partlist...? :-)) Many thanks!
October 20, 201311 yr Author It should be on rebrickable.com :-) if you haven't used it before, I would strongly recommend making an account, as it lets you match up your parts toward other sets/MOCs :-)
October 20, 201311 yr I can see the partlist on rebrickable.com. But it is not possible to download it, if you dont have account, right? I am looking for a brickstore partlist...not availble, correct? Thank you!
October 20, 201311 yr There is an 'export options' link above the inventory, Brickstore is one of the supported formats. I can highly recommend signing up to Rebrickable, and importing your part list there. You can then easily see which sets and MOCs you can build using your parts, or which parts are missing for a particular set/MOC. Managing your parts collection on Rebrickable is a bit of a hassle however, you might want to use Brickstore or Basebrick.com (also highly recommended) for that, and import the collection into Rebrickable each time you add/remove parts. October 21, 201311 yr I started building this, it is a really great build, feels like an official set. Thanks a lot for sharing, and grats! I have a question however. On page 22 of the instructions, some interesting part is used to hold the receiver, I've never seen this before. It seems the part list on rebrickable does not contain it. Any idea if I can replace it with the more common version? (http://www.bricklink...Item.asp?P=2444) I'm not sure how the height of them compares. This one: Edited October 21, 201311 yr by imajor

I've been trying to get the parts list on Rebrickable to be correct, but it seems everytime I fix one thing, a new mistake appears! Will have a look at it later on... I suppose you could use the part you suggested, along with some 2x2 plates, but I think you would have to reroute the wiring a little bit then.. Why don't you just try some approaches of your own, and then et back to how your solutions worked out! Have fun building, I'm glad you like the model!

October 21, 201311 yr What confused me is that I didn't know the height of that item. Is it the same as this? Except that instead of stud holes, it has studs on the bottom? If so, then I think the height of that modul is not correct, there should be 5 stud difference between the two holes marked with the blue arrow here: But the height of the studded block (including the receiver) is slightly more than that (5.2 stud if I count correctly). I used the other part I mentioned, there is enough space for the wires luckily: Anyway again: this is a really great model, thanks again!
October 28, 201311 yr This MOC is utterly phenomenal. The intricacy of the mechanisms, the 'density' of parts, just a very fun build. Thank you for an amazing build.
October 28, 201311 yr Author I'm very happy that you appreciate the model! In fact I'm a little surprised my MOC has been so well received, but the appreciation from you guys more than makes up for the time and work creating the instructions!:-)
October 28, 201311 yr Re modified 24T gear: I have found there is no need to do this if you subsitute double bevel gears :- 16T / 24T / 16T there is plenty of clearance between lower 16T gear and mini actuator ram, when steering is on full lock and drive train runs smoother. Excellent build - now on 2nd build of rear section to marry it with the front half of 8265 Front Loader using two ball units for the articulated joint. Never thought mini actators would have enough power for articulated steering - tried many times to use large actuators but all failed to work well. The simplicity of the mini actuator solution is ideal, compact and robust. Congratulations on a well designed MOC and thanks for sharing.
