August 23, 201311 yr Isn't that the whole Cuusoo Problem? I'm not following this way to long discussion. But so far, I have the impresion that Cuusoo idea's get votes based on the hype and promotion surounding them. Only after that comes the quality of a project. It's sad, but inevitable these days. Hype and promotion are definitely a big deal, but where do you think those come from? Typically there isn't some secret network of media insiders that project creators can count on to promote their products. Rather, blogs and other media promote projects because they approve of the concept and think their audience would as well. The thing about LEGO Cuusoo is that it is very much about concepts, not just about the quality of a model or presentation. The model and presentation are often secondary, and are more than anything else a means to help people visualize the concept and convince them of how cool it could be. This is why projects that are visually not that impressive, like the ATLAS mini-model, can still reach a network of enthusiastic supporters: because the supporters for such projects aren't looking for something that is visually impressive, they're looking for a LEGO version of something which they think would be a fascinating and novel subject for a LEGO set. And if some previous sets, like the LEGO Architecture skyscrapers, are any indication, there can be plenty of market for a set based on its concept alone, even if it isn't a complicated build or a visually-impressive model.
August 24, 201311 yr Author Some of the things being said here are interesting, but in recent posts it appears that it is starting to move towards casual chatter, which I specifically stated to avoid when I started the topic. I wanted you to just talk about the proposals in the first post, or specifically suggest your own. I encourage you to constructively criticise my essay, and suggest your own ideas. But please stay strictly on-topic. There are already 2 chatterish topics in this forum about Lego Cuusoo. In this topic, I want you to just specifically address problems and explain how you think that they should be solved. On this topic, you may suggest how you think that a section of the proposal should be changed, which some people here have already done. You may also copy-and-paste a section, and post an edited version of it as if you are editing a wiki. You could also post your own idea for a new section. Now like I said, I find some of these posts interesting, even though off-topic, but I suggest that you discuss these things in the other two topics about Lego Cuusoo if you are not expressing solutions to problems. The Rychira of time has already made a few posts here, which I find interesting as usual. But I wanted this topic to be about specifically stating how problems of the site should be solved. Thank you. Edited August 24, 201311 yr by LiamM32
August 24, 201311 yr Isn't that the whole Cuusoo Problem? I'm not following this way to long discussion. I don't think it is and that's important to this discussion. It isn't and shouldn't be the responsibility of Cuusoo to promote projects, it's the responsibility of the project creators. It isn't and shouldn't be enough to simply put a good idea there and expect it to just take off without any further involvement on your own part. If you want your project to succeed, it's up to you to go out and find the people who will support it. Any attempt to magically make Cuusoo itself the key point of promotion is doomed to fail, because the people who are likely to support your project probably aren't going to be checking there every day waiting for someone to post that idea. If they were, they'd have already posted it themselves.
September 11, 201311 yr Author I don't know if anyone has noticed, but I have made an edit to the "VIP Awards" section. I have made it so that instead of shortening the waiting time for repeated support, it would just add an extra to the support count without affecting the main repeating support system. I could revert it if you like it better before. I'm in a pickle of how I should change the Rating System. As [username] has argued, it may appear too similar to the support button for a user viewing a project page; because they have to both "Support" the projects that they like and rate them "positive". I don't want to simply delete that section because I think it would be one of the most beneficial proposals on here, but I would be willing to change how it works to better achieve the purpose. They should be advertised based on an relative measurement of how many people like it, not absolute. One idea I had was that it would ask people to rate the project when they first post a comment; but the problem there is that it would give the rating system more potential for insulting projects. Another idea is to replace a dedicated rating system with the option to "dissuport" a project. The total support count would then be measured by support minus dissuport. The chance of advertising would be determined by what percentage of these would be a "support". As the section is currently written, it might work because the rating would prevent or cause the project to show-up on the advertisements on their own account. The Lego Cuusoo team might just come up with a good solution on their own if I send this to them vaguely. But I think it would be best to send it to them with a fairly detailed description, so please don't shy from sharing your own idea if you have one. I also want to ask something from all of you reading; How close do you think the proposal is currently to being ready? Do you think that as it is currently written, there would mostly be an improvement to how Lego Cuusoo would function? Do you think that there are too many sections of the essay, so that I should shorten it to stick to the most important parts? If you aren't happy with it, please tell me what should be changed.

Is the proposal close to being ready? and Would it improve CuuSoo? Ummm? You really don't want an honest answer to these do you? I know you are trying so hard and pouring so much into this, but it is fatally flawed in that the entire proposal is almost totally designed to weight and skew the system towards what are essentially elitist AFOL Lego hobbyists. The purpose of CuuSoo is not to stroke the egos and show off the MOC's of the hardcore. Out of curiosity what exactly are you expecting to happen should you submit this proposal? I am assuming that you are not a part of the CuuSoo review system, nor has a request for such a proposal been solicited by either CuuSoo or TLG? So there is no one at TLG that you would have even the smallest reasonable expectation to actually read this, outside of possibly the head of security. Who probably gets a copy of any unsolicited correspondence declaring how they need to reorganize the company around a fans radical new ideas. What exactly are you looking to do with this beyond an interesting discussion subject among AFOL's?
