First of all, this looks awesome, and I think I will upgrade my 42009. I am wondering whether someone has a diff list of the parts to 1x or 2x 42009? Or is there a way to do that with the file easily in bricklink?

When you download the BrickStore .bsx file from Blakbirds Bricksafe space you can easily subtract 42009 from it using BrickStore.

The BrickStore GMK6400 complete parts list is loaded, and all the Ultimate 42009 parts are showing negative numbers, and are red. Is there a way to have BrickStore actually remove those items? I can't seem to find a way to do that, so that all I have left are the additional parts I need to order for the GMK6400.

You have to open both models in separate windows by opening the .bsx files.

NOTE: Before subtracting items you have to change the condition of the parts of the GMK6400 from Used to New.

Then use 'Subtract items' to subtract the items of the Ultimate from the GMK6400.

If negative numbers result they are indeed shown in red.

You can easily remove those records with the 'Delete' functions.

The remainder you can export to a BrickLink wanted list.

You will find out that you miss 1354 items with an average BL value of €305.

Subtracting another 42009 model (use Import and than subtract again) results in 639 items with a value of €223.

The most expensive parts are the missing motors and the new steering arms/portals.

I just noticed I can't import the 42030 inventory to do that. I have a second 42009 I bought for parts, and I also found a cheap 8043 a while back for parts, so I am assuming I should have most of the parts with either 42009 x 2 + 8043 + 42030, or 42009 x 2 + 8043 + crawler.

You can download the .bsx file of 42030 from www.rebrickable.com (one of the export options).

The thing is you need 5 L motors, so 2x9398 + 1x42009 (or 5x42009 ;) )

It is a pity that the L motors are hard to find in the shops!

There's a very simple reason for that: they are available on S@H and their prices are hard to beat. One L Motor costs € 14,99, XL even cheaper at € 11,99. Both at the German Site.

For Dutch, Belgian and German customers the L Motor is available for only € 12,99 at this Dutch online shop.

what happened to draft 2?

I never posted it. It has been superseded by draft3. Now that I have built the model (just finished it), I will be making more changes to the instructions and will upload draft4.

They go at the top of the windshield. The black bushes go to either side of the cab. I eliminated both of them from my build by just using black 3L and 2L axles. Looks fine and you will never notice the difference. I also changed the color of the 4ea dark bluish gray 32184 connectors which are quite rare. I used light bluish gray since you can't see them anyway.

Thank you, Theo. I ended up with 164 Lots, 1372 items, $452 Value, but close to your results.

Thanks for the tip! I ordered 4 L Motors at www.brickshop.nl right away!

And they are even cheaper: € 12,95 instead of € 12,99 !

Making building instructions is a massive work, so I understand that blakbird is not going on perfection, but I can do that task. My offer on collaboration for the project is still valid.

Greetings

Alex

Thanks Alex for the collaboration offer. I am totally fine with it. Maybe you need to wait Blakbird's draft4 instruction and decide what to do next.

when i open the file it says that 12 pieces was removed from the model, anybody know what pieces that was removed?

It did it for me as well. The missing parts seem to be the 12 shock absorbers. Most likely they were not aligned properly when first inserted in the model. LDD is rather finicky with shock absorbers and LAs.

Hey, Jurgen, I'm building your Ultimate 42009 now, and although I'm about to start the boom, I have a suggestion based on a problem I had while assembling the vehicle body:

On page 63, step 2, a black connector is added (42003.jpg)and I didn't notice that it isn't flush against the adjacent 9L liftarm which caused me to place the black gear (32270.jpg) on the same axle out of position on page 67, step 12...

The result was that the steering motor also drove the outrigger lift, something I didn't discover until testing the motors all the way on page 119, step 60!

If it isn't too difficult, maybe you could add a callout on page 63 emphasizing that particular spacing requirement.

It only took me about an hour or so to troubleshoot, disassemble and rebuild it, but I'm sure it's a headache nobody else would want to deal with. That gearbox being built at the time is kind of wobbly while building it since so many axles aren't fixed into position right away, I'm sure that's how I missed it.

Rollermonkey, the black gear is put on that axle in Step 4, Page 64.

Is there room to add this bushing ( Bushing10.gif) as a spacer?

No, not as I recall.

I think the gear on step 4 is on a different axle... I was looking at the instructions on screen when I typed that, but it wouldn't be the only part that pops in and out between steps...

There are also inventory discrepancies... I have to go to TLS today and get one of the pullback cars because 42009 has zero thick black 2L liftarms, just the 10 of the version with axle / pin combination, and the two needed aren't on the extra parts list. (Fortunately there's a $20 set right now with three, most of the current sets with them right now are much bigger) The other discrepancies were shortages of yellow 0.5L bushings, LBG 3L axles and blue 3L pins, but I had enough of those laying around. At least those 2L liftarms go in the boom, don't interfere with completing the MOC and can be added later.

The only other issue I had was needing to swap wires to different IR receivers... The steering wheel was moving the outriggers. Maybe that was my screwup, but I thought I was paying close attention to those.

All in all, it really helps illustrate how much effort TLG puts into the models. Huge props to Jurgen and Blakbird and whoever else made this a reality.

I wasn't precisely keeping track, but not more than 3 or 4. The 3L axle and 3L pins were off by roughly the same amount... I wonder if maybe Jurgen included the extras from the set inventory, whereas I was building from the model, disassembled immediately before reassembly?

The bushings, axles and pins are super common. Those 2L liftarms, on the other hand, not so much.

Thank you, rollermonkey. I had read about the 2L Liftarms on another part of the forum, so ordered those. I have enough of the others, too.
