Risgrynsgrot Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I'm just going to say it out loud - these look absolutely horrible. The heads look too big compared to the body, and generally just look awful. Why does Marge & Homer look stoned? As a Simpsons Fan I expected more than this, now I'm kinda mad that we miss out on a CMF series to get this garbage. Quote
Faefrost Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Well the torsos don't look too bad... Homers and Flanders might be useful. But those heads? They are the things of nightmares. Once seen they cannot be unseen. Quote
Scop Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Wow. Suddenly, some wild Lego- Crap appears. No seriously, I wasn´t a big fan of Homer and Ned, but I got used to Homer with his Powerplant- Outfit. But those heads of Marge and Lisa... Lego can do so much better. Just look at those lips... I will pass on these two for sure. Quote
badbob001 Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 With the heads, I think these minifigures will be taller than even the Friends minidolls, so certainly they will be a challenge to create proportional sets for. Would they need to create new larger door molds? I'm proud to have collected all the CMF figures so far (ignored the olympic ones and no Mr. Gold) and I'm a little tempted to gets these as well for completeness, but I'm not really liking what I see so far. The cartoon-ish printing makes it hard to re-use the parts, though I can probably use Homer's short-sleeve arms. Of course, if Homer's arms are made from the same factory as CMF arms, they will be horribly loose in a non-CMF torso. Maybe the saving grace will be some awesome accessories. Quote
commodore_legolas Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 I may be an a minority here, but IMO I really like Marge and Lisa's heads. Quote
Dorayaki Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 (edited) I may be an a minority here, but IMO I really like Marge and Lisa's heads. If only the hair can be used on other minifigures . Edited December 4, 2013 by Dorayaki Quote
gedren_y Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Part of the problem with the way the faces look from the front is that, in the cartoon, you loose the depth dimension and the lips disappear from the front. Show the cartoon and fig from the side and you will see the look is correct. (I watched the Simpsons tonight and got a good look at Marge from the side. She's got some long lips.) All this decrying the new themes happens often when we have just a few pictures of leaks to go on. Wait till you can see the whole line as intended before you make your judgement. Better yet, wait till you can see it in person. I'm betting we'll see them at MegaCon 2014 in Orlando, FL. While I probably won't use the Simpsons heads as intended, I'm certain I'll be able to use quite a bit from this line when it comes out. Quote

A quick google image search for 'Marge/Lisa Simpson figure' will show that these don't look any different from other molded Simpson character. If someone actually tried to render a 3D Lisa Simpson head while being accurate to the TV version, they'd quickly find out why these look the way they do. Quote
BrickG Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 Cartoons literally change the shape of things when they're at different angles. It's why doing totally accurate figures is impossible and even the best cell shaded video games have awkward looking angles. When artists want to draw an angle they draw it to look good and that includes changing the shape of the thing so it doesn't translate into a 3d image properly. There will never be a perfect simpsons figure. Quote

Sam892 Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 Which is why this theme is a mistake in the first place. Not really, does anything really truly translate in to LEGO? Look at other themes like Star Wars, where some characters heads can't turn, or Superheroes where Hulks legs can't move, look at how Minifigures aren't really proportionate to real humans. Look at how Vehicles like Starfighters and Cars loose some features and scale when they become sets, look at how some certain curves can't be recreated in LEGO which can sometimes make stuff look off. Certain angles can't be achieved either . Nothing can be translated perfectly into LEGO, saying that Simpsons shouldn't have been made when like every theme it has translation problems is just silly. Every theme has it. Yoda isn't a true representation of his size when put next to a mini figure, he should be smaller. The ninja turtles can't move there legs back, Jack Sparrow and Tonto can't move there heads. Gollum can't move his legs and is fixed in one position, the Delorean is too big. Bane is too Small, LEGO cars can't fit five mini figures in without making the car a ridiculous size. Nothing translates perfectly the Simpsons figures are fine really. Quote
JeagerEX Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 These Homer, Ned, Marge and Lisa are the minifigs from the House set right? I cannot wait to see Bart and the rest of them. For the CMF series I hope they don't include any other people with different skin tone besides yellow. What happened to the other rumored sets like the Kwik-E Mart and a Power Plant Control Room? Quote
Deathleech Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 Eh, Lisa and Marge look terrible imo. They look like they are taking weird duck face selfies for Facebook. Their heads also look smushed down. Quote
MisterR Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 I dont understand the comments.. I love them.. and I think if we see them final like homer and flanders, they look way better :-) cant wait for the first pictures of the house :-) Quote

just2good Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 (edited) I would think we would be almost guaranteed a Krusty, Apu and Karl in the CMF's. Apu is confirmed. Krusty is definitely coming. I don't think we'll see Carl, though. Edited December 5, 2013 by just2good Quote
australopithecine Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 I hope we get the Comic Book Guy. I think LEGO has done a fine job translating the few characters we've seen so far. I'm hoping that they sell well enough that there's more waves. Quote
just2good Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 I got my second Homer today, this one was the full minifigure. I have to say- the printing is fantastic, and the paint on the sleeves is very well done. Interesting enough, his torso's "neck" doesn't have the black paint which means it was probably made in China. Then again, Azog doesn't have it either, so maybe it's a new trend with moulded heads? I hope those realistic based people that appeared in the show will not be contained in the CMF Series right? I don't see why'd they do that. They already got all these characters from the show and alternate appearances of them to work with. Though, I'd love to see any of the two Weird Al appearances in a (later, if there are going to be any) CMF The Simpsons Series. Quote
gedren_y Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 I'm sure we'll get Sideshow Bob (voiced by Kelsey Grammer), but will we get his brother Cecil Terwilliger (voiced by David Hyde Pierce)? I know we only got him in two episodes, ten years apart, but they were important Sideshow Bob episodes. There is also Sideshow Mel, who is voiced by the same actor that plays Homer, Dan Castellaneta. We are certain to get several characters that are voiced by the amazing Hank Azaria. Moe Syzslak, Chief Wiggum, Apu, Professor Frink, Carl, Snake, Comic Book Guy, Bumblebee Man, Sea Captain, and Kirk Van Houten are all characters he has played. I also loved him on Mad About You. MonkeyCrumb Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 All this whining reminds me that we still have people whining about how Lego isn't just plain bricks anymore, and how sets take away too much imagination. Fanboys will whine about everything if it's too different for them I LOVE these new minifigures. They look fantastic, and I'm buying tons of them. For those that feel like they are in the minority for likining them, you are not alone, it's just a hard core group that keeps trash-talking them. If a theme doesn't catch my eye, I don't whine and trash-talk it, I move on to something else. Why does every single release need to appeal to YOU specifically? How many Simpsons fans will these figures bring out of their Dark Ages, or into Lego to begin with? If you don't like Chima, or Ninjago, or whatever, WHY do you need to incessantly whine and complain like Lego exists to ONLY make products that appeal to YOU? I think Lego CMF Simpsons is a genious move for Lego from a business perspective. It will bring in a bunch of new fans. New fans are best for everyone, because it keeps the market fresh and strong. But if you don't like something, just move on and quit whining. If you can't deal with the evolution of Lego, just get a basic tub of bricks and get off the internet, since it didn't exist when Lego was created. Lego evolves and tries new things to keep itself in business. I'm not a Duplo fan, but I don't whine when they announce a new set. Quote
