SkaForHire Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 If I may be so bold, I like the idea of Historica and Roawia (LCC) being in the same world and I am pretty sure LCCers wouldn't mind. When LCC was developed, I feel like that was a suggestion over there but no one wanted to make it official. I think challenges against one another in the future would be cool. Quote

Gideon Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 I do not know about the calculations you refer to regarding the size of the land mass, but in my mind it is more like the size of western Europe since we have both Mediterranean/Northern African climate as well as subarctic climate. To me it feels a bit cramped to have all of that within only an area the size of France. That would not at all fit the large areas of uninhabitated wilderness in Mitgardia and Kaliphlin. A more appropriate scale is that maybe Avalonia is of the size of France? I think it would be easiest to use the established name Historica for the whole world and let Varlyrio be included as well (since it after all is the 5th guild of Historica). In the cases we need a distinction "mainland Historica" might do for the land mass with the four playable guilds, or another name for the big land mass. Quote

A more appropriate scale is that maybe Avalonia is of the size of France? Gex consulted with Prof Gefren Jeograf, esteemed head of the Geography department at the University of Petraea. Here's what they came up with: I think it was actually calculated to be the size of Texas, a bit bigger than France. See previous discussion here and here. I don't think it's official or anything; those were just calculations based off Avalonian and Kaliphlin maps. Examining the entire Historica map with GIMP's measuring tool, I think it's more like 350,000 square miles, which is about the size of Nigeria (Texas is 268,000; France 247,000), or the size of France, the UK, and Denmark put together. By those calculations it is about 850 miles (1368 km) north to south, and 735 miles (1183 km) east to west. Historica certainly isn't any smaller, but maybe it's a bit bigger. Too much bigger, though, and we'd never see each other. Also, a rough estimate based on the Historica map shows the guild land sizes as: Kaliphlin is about the size New Zealand (or Colorado), Mitgardia is the size of Utah, Avalonia is the size of Washington State (or a bit bigger than England + Wales), and Nocturnus is the size of Arkansas (or a bit bigger than Greece). That doesn't sound too off the mark; I wouldn't have thought Avalonia was much bigger than England and Wales. As for the very wide climate range over a small area, well, it's a different world! Maxim I Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 About LCC and GoH: the staff of LCC are not really a huge fan of storylines that combine LCC and GoH :( Quote

In the cases we need a distinction "mainland Historica" might do for the land mass with the four playable guilds, or another name for the big land mass. I agree, it would be unnecessarily confusing to have another name for the world, which has always just been called Historica anyways (as far as I know, at least) Quote

Captain BeerBeard Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 A simple solution would be to just let me make the name. I brought it up afterall. Quote
Zach Mills Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 A simple solution would be to just let me make the name. I brought it up afterall. 'Beerbeardia.' It has quite the ring to it! Quote
kabel Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 As for the very wide climate range over a small area, well, it's a different world! I'd say it's a matter of oceanic currents, compare New Foundland to Northern France for instance, both on the same lattitude yet completely different climates! Quote
Maxim I Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 Or see it as Spain : the North has snow. West is green and South is desert :) @Ska: Not really jelled at but I had to change my story :) it was not really a problem for me :) Quote
SkaForHire Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 @Ska: Not really jelled at but I had to change my story :) it was not really a problem for me :) That is funny they made you change your fictional story... I didn't know so many of GoH were over there, I just never had the time to keep my stuff going over there. Quote
Fred Daniel Yam Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 hm, this sounds a lot more thought out than the first time... Question: Can I use my existing character but change to a different guild? Quote
PenPlays Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 You can indeed. The Guilds would love to have you return! Just post in your new Guild's thread when you've made your decision. Quote
Duvors Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 As far as I can tell Historica (including Varlyrio) is about as big as Australia and the continent of Elandica is about the same, there is also Drakridar to take into account as well as the Empire of Leon (of which there are no maps) and the guilds that where proposed in the 5th Guild Challenge, (that I believe are part of this world) and the fact that aside from some of the more southern lands only the Northern Hemisphere is explored. LegoDrake Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 (edited) I was wondering the same thing. I guess it won't be open for members for a while... Or possibly they are preparing to reopen it as a new topic.I doubt it though. Edited October 4, 2013 by LegoDrake Quote

Infernum Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 Wait, Varlyrio is really just Nocturnus?!? Of course not! Do you really think beards is all going on in Mitgardia?! Quote
PenPlays Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 Maybe the whole "ending book 2 in Nocturnus" is just a ruse, and the real ending will be in Varlyrio. That would be interesting to return to the fallen, rogue Fifth Guild in the end. Quote
Lord Vladivus Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 Varylio is part of the Black Spire forces attacking Nocty no? Quote
