Posted August 9, 201311 yr I wondered: is it posible with classic technic to build frontwheel suspension on model team scale? ( or just a slightly bigger scale). I ask this since my technic dates back pretty much from before 1985 and no special parts existed back then.
August 9, 201311 yr Author Haha, really easy? Does anyone maybe have an example of it? Because as of now I don't see how to combine it with steering....
August 10, 201311 yr Haha, really easy? Does anyone maybe have an example of it? Because as of now I don't see how to combine it with steering.... It will be good, if you show what parts do you have! Universal joints, shock absorbers, gear racks, maybe ball joints...
August 10, 201311 yr Author Well, I have only classic stuff available. Technic bricks, pins ( grey and black), and for example the steering parts of 8846. Edited August 10, 201311 yr by Good old Lego builder
August 10, 201311 yr Author Nope. I did have the car chassis before this one. I know that back in the day me and my friens tried to give that one frontwheelsuspension, but failed.....
August 10, 201311 yr I did it as a proof of concept in about 1986 or so, but by that time my lego was somewhat worn with reduced clutch power so it was a little fragile - I played with my lego a lot! It was a double wishbone arrangement using the 1x1x6 technic bricks with holes as the wishbones. I will have a go to see if I can recreate it in LDD, my old technic lego is at my mums at the moment!
August 10, 201311 yr What do you mean with Model Team scale? The 5580 would be roughly at scale 1:25, the 5571 is obviously built at a larger scale.
August 10, 201311 yr Author Ah, i see. I mean a scale approx. 12 studs wide, for a truck for example.
August 10, 201311 yr Memory is sort of hazy, but it went something like this: The turntables are done in black to make them stand out more. I may have substituted rubber band style suspension instead of the shock absorbers as I am not sure they were stiff enough, and I expect there were some additional reinforcing parts too that I can't remember, but it is not too far off what I actually built.
August 10, 201311 yr Nice, Heppeng! Big, but nice! Ican see that work on the big car chassis. Can't see you being able to build anything smaller if I'm honest
August 10, 201311 yr Author I think so too, that this is pretty much as small as you can go. As i said, nice!
August 10, 201311 yr Can't see you being able to build anything smaller if I'm honest Well I guess that depends on how 'creative' you are... If you have two rubber bands on ether end that will act like a shock absorber. Edited August 10, 201311 yr by Alasdair Ryan

August 10, 201311 yr I have used all the part that would have been available to me back in the 90's.
August 10, 201311 yr This is slightly unrelevant, but is there a live axle suspension that doesn't use shock absorbers? I have been searching around and couldn't find any.
August 10, 201311 yr Yes, there is a shock absorber alternative for a live axle using rubber bands. The chassis on page 44 of the 8888 technical ideas book uses it, and in fact a much modified version of it was what my independent front axle was fitted - along with rear suspension lift, V8 engine - it was getting a little monster truckish! August 10, 201311 yr Author Alasdair, that seems do-able, I think that I can recreate something like that, although as mentioned I would have to replace some parts.... Great thinking, all!
