Graysmith Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Gotta say I'm really disappointed that the nice-looking snowcat (with the wide tracks) isn't the one that comes stand-alone in set 60033. Those two snowcats should've switched sets. The snowcat in 60033 isn't particularly appealing when you've seen the one in 60036, but it would've been an okay vehicle to get with the base camp set since that set has so much else going for it. A missed opportunity by LEGO there, because I think a lot more would buy 60033 if it had the better snowcat. I know I would, but now I'll probably skip these sets altogether. A nice sub-theme overall, though whoever decided that the minifigures should have blue hoods on orange jackets should be fired because that just looks horrendous. The point of the hood piece is that it should look like it's part of the jacket/torso (see Wyldstyle in the new LEGO Movie sets for a good example), so having them be two completely different colours is just blech. I think the blue and orange goes well together. And they are opposites on the colour wheel. As for the snowcat thing, although the one with the base could stand to be a tad smaller, having the large one as a standalone set would put the price up by a fair bit. It's almost twice the size! And the smaller one is kind of cute. Really, my only complaint with the sets is that there's just the one polar bear. That, and the fact that they're all so cool... Quote
Legoman123 Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 These sets look absolutely amazing! I think i'm going to be picking up the Arctic HQ and the Arctic outpost. Quote
LEGOMAN132 Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Love the arctic sets reminds me of the playmobil theme from way back more so then the last arctic line. The new polar bear looks great and its great to get a new dog I hope there is one more wave so we can get more animals. Quote
metalandi Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 There isd absolutely no point to the orange jackets with blue hoods lookin bad or not right. I work for the city here, and we have reflective orange jackets with blue stripes and blue hoods, and they look very well in reality. Quote
Wardancer Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 (edited) The real question here is: Will the huskies go through as baby wargs? A Smart Move, making Chima and City about ice at the Same time.Winter is coming. Edited January 30, 2014 by Wardancer Quote
Wardancer Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 (edited) AND! The polar bear has made a come back. I'm gonna throw some CMF Yetis in there too. Its a new polar bear mold, isn't it? Edited January 30, 2014 by Wardancer Quote
lightningtiger Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 The ice breaker set might appear at Legoworld in February......dam, I hope that's not the only exclusive set on show there......wouldn't mind see something else to join last years town square set. Quote

Dayton Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 This is an awesome line for City and i think a risk TLG have taken by doing something different. I love the new husky with the modified handlebars! They will be useful in the future. Quote
Hrafnblod Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Its a new polar bear mold, isn't it? Looks like the bear mold from the Forest Police line, but it's new as a polar bear. The previous polar bear was less detailed and had no printing. Quote
tman684 Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Jeez, they sure have been making a lot of train sets. I'm getting old! Seems like just last year I got the red passenger train and the yellow cargo train, but I can't even check what year those were because Brickset is down right now. I really wish I had more room for a train set up, I have a whole box of tracks. I'd love to get more trains Quote

But my wife would kill me if I dove into that money-eating black hole of collecting, too. As if I don't have enough themes that I regularly get! Quote

I really wish I had more room for a train set up, I have a whole box of tracks. I'd love to get more trains Train sets aren't actually all that common. Unlike City mainstays like Fire and Police that show every year, the cycle for train sets is (if I recall correctly) more like a four-year cycle. For the past few years the Trains subforum here on Eurobricks has had to rely a lot on discussion of trains from other themes like The Lone Ranger, Monster Fighters, and one-offs like the Horizon Express. Of course, Lego continues to sell the City train range for that whole period, unlike things like police cars that are replaced on a yearly or bi-yearly basis. Quote

I'm pretty sure there will be a new set of some sort like the town square or parking garage, there has been in the last few summers. Also speaking of which, there are still 4 missing product numbers. LEGO Guy Bri Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Time to update my Arctic collection! Really excited about the Outpost and Helicrane. Can't wait to see the Ice Breaker, I hope it's a new boat hull Quote

Last year was 2013. ;) Anyways I love the Arctic sets, some of the best looking City sets in a long time. The prices will make me laugh. I'm sure the helicopter drop set will be $40-$45 even when it should only be $30. Plus I'm sick of $100 bases. I much rather have the big drill thing with the base be it's own set and have only the base, helicopter and dog sled included. I much rather see some $60-$70 base sets instead of every one be $100-$125. Nice job LEGO makes up for the last few years of lacking designs. Edited January 31, 2014 by Bricknblue Quote
Capt. Redblade Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Wow, the Arctic sets actually look really impressive. I'm sort of getting a "first twenty minutes of National Treasure" vibe from them. Seriously, though, these are different enough from the usual City fare that I might just pick up a couple. (Also, am I the only one who has Johnny Horton's "North to Alaska" running through his head right now?) Quote

I'm anxious on what the prices will look like, though, since I want most of the theme... Piece-wise the base should come in around $80 but for all the talk about licensed sets being pricier, at least in the States it seems like city sets never come in at 10 cents per piece. I'm expecting $100 for it, $40-50 like you said for the helicopter, probably $60-80 for the mobile outpost truck. Quote
Alien Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Huskies don't look completely finalized. That may be but those look great already. The only thing that is really missing is the facial printing, I like the form and the body printing. Don't get me wrong the current dogs are great esp. the German Shepard prints. I'm not that keen on the Dalmatian print because its on top of the German Shepard Form. But it’s nice to see other form factors. Quote
lightningtiger Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 It seems every year almost we get a new dog design, well of sorts.....at least the huskies are totally new in design and of course print....once the sets are in full production. Quote

lightningtiger Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I also just noticed in the polar sky crane chopper, a new metal detector is in it......so they are looking for iron in the snow ? Only once has the new metal detector appeared, 2013 in a city elite police pack 850617. Quote
