The list has really grown for great vehicles sub-theme since it started last year.......5 plus 5 this year and 9 to start next year with. Plus I can see three price points......the SUV and camper are in the middle price point say 29 bucks Aussie, the lighting truck, racing car, monster truck (since it's similar to this years).....about 19 bucks Aussie and finally the bigger vehicle sets either in length or width I would say a minimum of 39 bucks Aussie.

Airport fire truck - SET 6005?

This is a beast of a fire truck roughly looking around 8 studs wide and 20-32 studs long in red with 2 mini figs, 1 burning jet engine

nnnoooooo why in red ! I wanted to be in the yellow lime green like the ones in north america ,does any body think the same ???? oh well still ill buy it . with all this 8 stud trucks and cars they need to come out with a 10 or 12 stud garage doors , i mean Im trying to build a airport fire truck but there's no way i could install a sliding door on it with this huge trucks .......

does any body agree with me on the color and doors ????

Man... Really disappointed that the "Police Motorcycle Chase" doesn't include, well, a police motorcycle.

I also have the feeling that the Car Transporter is going to be a very memorable set.

Thx to everyone for sharing the inside info!

Fact is, if you ask the target audience for City sets what color a fire truck is (or should be), most of them would say "red". So LEGO builds fire trucks (and stations and other things) in red because that's what kids want.

Are you sure about cars being 6 studs wide and bigger vehicles being 8 studs wide? The 6 stud wide vehicles already have a hard enough time passing eachother on roads, 8 studs wide would make driving a nightmare! It would also throw the scale off. Now that I just checked, normal city vehicles are already 6 studs wide if you count the bulky tires. It seems weird to me that they would change the scale(vehicles having trouble passing, being to big to get in garage doors etc). I think I'm looking the most forward to the car transporter :classic:

I was being subtle, you missed my inference.

The inference I got was you are sceptical of the list because it sounded too similar to the last couple of years. For me that doesn't suggest it is wrong though, since the last few years have had some very odd similarities, ie new police and fire sets almost every year. In the past I wouldn't have expected police to be refreshed every year but it seems to be the new world order now.

that its a sad thinking but you are right . they should make things that get close to reality ! is there any " red " airport fire truck in the world or are they all yellow lime in europe too ???

Excitement over limit, vehicles sounds too great to be true . :excited: .

Can prisoner transporter look like bastion from lego city undercover?

Posted

If you look closer bastion and swat van from museum set looks completely differnet.

Ah, well one has a long nose and other doesn't........you can't go by the game to judge sets a year or so after it's designed.

Not likely. They seldom, at least in the last decade, have included any sort of road plates in sets that are primarily just a vehicle. The current dark grey with white lines road plates introduced c.2005 have never been included with any set being sold only as accessory packs.

I was looking at some old sets and remembering back to when I was a kid and thinking that Lego is really missing the boat on this. I strongly feel that having sets come with road baseplates like 6391 Cargo Center, 6393 Big Rig Truck Stop or 6381 Motor Speedway encourages kids to want to buy additional road plates to connect them up. Things like Fire, Police, and Gas stations that have no road plates with them suggest to kids they don't need road plates. The cost of road plates is pretty steep, so starting with a base of nothing coming in sets makes it seem more daunting to get enough together to create a good little city. If road plates aren't selling the way Lego wants them to, then I think the lack of them in City sets is a leading reason.

Then, you've got sets like 7642 Garage and 7208 Fire Station with irregular baseplate orientation making it hard for a kid to figure out how they would even fit that in a 32x32 baseplate/roadplate grid. I like these sets a lot, but Lego isn't helping kids see how these sets can be used together by making it harder for them to be compatible with other Lego sets.

Hit the nail on the head there. If there were sets with integrated road plates then they might actually create a market for road plate packs. My kids love just building roads and playing with cars and trucks joining the plates together temporarily and reconfiguring them over and over.

And not to hijack the thread but why do the road plates have to be so darned expensive? Is there something about the forming process? Packaging is minimal and they pack pretty tightly for shipping.
