Yeah the advent calendar seems like an ideal place to toss a husky in. I guess they might want those to be an exclusive mold for the Arctic subtheme though, starting out. Gives people some extra incentive to pick up those sets.

Posted

yeah some times we have to wait for things like this to make it to the calendar like the spaceman we just got was from 2011

Posted

Was hoping the huskies would be included in a smaller set with the 4 dog team pulling the sled but they're a part of the main set. Will be Bricklinking a few of them as I'm not interested in the rest of the set

Is it just me or does the Arctic base seem to be crying out for a "The Thing" MOC? You've got the doggies for *that* scene or to combine with the Chopper, plenty of guys in parkas (can't see any dynamite but that's easy enough to add) plus lots of other good Wintery stuff. The polar bear is of limited use I guess but other than that it's all good...a few flame pieces would be needed of course plus maybe some of those nice big tentacle pieces.

The Advent Calendars have always seemed to me the place where LEGO throws in a bunch of old pieces they have laying around or pieces they have tons of. I doubt they would waste a ton of new pieces in a calendar.

It's like 2013, where did they dig u the astronaut? Just had an extra box or three laying around.

They're in the helicopter set, along with the main base. Both sets have a 4-dog sled team.

Not a lover of the helicopter either so for me it's still a BL purchase

Fair enough. Either way they're being pretty generous, giving 4 dogs in each of the two sets that includes them. Maybe BL prices won't be too bad, considering, once the theme has been out for a little while.

More so when they go on clearance right before Christmas.

Why did they put Artic as a subtheme of City? It's something that doesn't belong to a city. Unless there's an ice age

Does Space Command fit into City? Or my favorite theme title ever... LEGO City Farm? It's not an action theme, they aren't facing monsters or any bad guys so it's a City set.

The "City" theme is pretty much everything that has to do with modern age (with no scifi elements to it). Besides that, i don't think it matters if it is branded with City, as you can put it wherever you want yourself...

I hope they aren't that short-lived, I want to pick up most of the line but I've got a lot on my Lego list this year.

They will be short lived, I heard a rumor that in 2015 they will be replaced by the Arctic Police and Fire.

(This is a joke.)

But Amazon USA has had sets on sale 20-30% off as soon as they come out, then raise the price back. Look at the huge sale on Amazon and target this year, BEFORE Christmas. I wish I bought more of the GS sets.

Farm indeed is a very nice theme..

Yeah everyone has his own imagination so it doesn't matter because people place it wherever they want it :)

I'm not at all bothered that certain 'City' sets don't take place in the city. The old Town theme had some great sets outside the Town Centre - the beach sets, Canyon Creek, Outback...

*sigh*

Remember before city was town hence a beach set or the Canyon Creek set can be tied to a local town or very near a city.........but rocket launch pads and polar research bases......not really found with in the limits of city or just out of ?

Anyway it's only a week or so before Legoworld and we find out what surprises the City designers have install for us.

Hey, if it's either Arctic or more Fire/Police then I'll take Arctic all day long, whether it's in the "city" or not.

Pretty much! Although I just realised we don't have a single police car (not one!) having gone with Fire, Coastguard and Airport for our City, which works well as it's what we see and know, living in Wellington as we do. I'm not sure how the Arctic sets will go down with kids who may not have any way of relating to them - the huskies work surprisingly well for this, cause who doesn't love dogs?!

Also, I kind of see "City" as meaning "Modern Westernised Lifestyle", including everything from pizza to space travel.

Hmmm, I'm also hesitant on that Advent Calendar. I started on the ACs in March 2012 when I found the 2011 calendar for $10. I liked the mini Police headquarters and thought it was a nice selection of parts for what I paid. The 2012 Fire Calendar wasn't bad and gave me a mess of firemen to go with the forest fire truck. Plus it came with two kids (Lego doesn't make a lot of kids!) and some brick profile pieces.

The best part of 2013's calendar was that I found it for $12 in October. At that price, I had to get it, and my daughter had fun with the daily builds. If I can find 2014's at that price again, I'll get it. Otherwise, I may limit myself to Star Wars and Friends.

Wonder if it'll sell out again this year, though. This past Christmas, the Advent Calendars all rapidly vanished in November and their prices shot through the roof on eBay. I'm told that the retailers will probably overorder this year as a result, so we'll see.

I suppose it went over well enough last time (late '90s, I think?) for them to bring it back again. I expect the line will be reasonably successful, it still has cool adventure potential with its new vehicles and the like, plus the biggest set has a polar bear. Besides, with the mining emphasis it's not really so different, conceptually, from power miners or rock raiders or the mining subtheme we already got. I think those themes all probably went over well with the kids. I was a kid during Rock Raiders and the previous Arctic line and I loved them and couldn't get enough!

I see "City" as meaning "contemporary era, non action" (sure vrooming and zooming around the Arctic and running from polar bears is pretty action-y, but still real world).

It looks like the Arctic guys have a new ice pick mold - it would be a shame if so, I liked the old one with serrated blade better.

Looks the same as the former one. http://www.promobricks.de/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/lego-city-arctic4.jpg You can see the serration in that picture pretty well.
