lightningtiger Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 I guess we will have to wait and see if it gets announced later at this show or at the New York show if it is a real set True, this years design looks more finished and I'm still trying to read the license plate sticker on that white car in front of the train station. Did you use large 2048 format on Flickr? It's MUCH clearer. edit: I can't seem to read it on my iPad, but with a computer you may. It looks like a new design though, I can't see it being a copy of a different car. Edited February 13, 2014 by HomerJSimpson Quote

The car is too far away to read the plate even on the largest photo size. At first I thought it was a plain version of the police car from 60047 police station but the front is slightly different but the realised it has a white base/chassis plate Quote

eiker86 Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 (edited) I have asked and the Octan station is still not a set :( And the white car near station is 4206 or something. Edited February 14, 2014 by eiker86 Quote
Moebius118 Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 I have asked and the Octan station is still not a set :( And the white car near station is 4206 or something. Daaang. The fact that its missing the backside to the structure really gives it the appearance of a upcoming set. They need to get on it already! I'd probably buy three of them just to combine them into the size of a real gas station. :( Quote

Many thanks for the info eiker86 and for all the photo's so far. Good that someone on this site is there and able to get such good info! Quote
lightningtiger Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 Ditto, thanks 'eiker86' for asking. Well, the surprise set this year is an Arctic ice plane......meh, big deal and what a way to bum out a theme for the rest of the year. Thanks goodness for the trains.......I'll be able to buy them this time round because I'll be buying none of the Arctic sets......I totally have no place for them in my collection. So I have a total of five city and eight super heroes to buy and I'm done for 2014 (except buying some SW and the Simpson's house for my son). Mind you, I wouldn't mind just get some of the huskies.....I could MOC a breeding kennel....maybe. On that gas station, I'm 75% through reverse engineering what I can see and had to do some redesigning to make it work too. This year started with so much promise, a large a ray of vehicles, cool police station and new trains with a Lego shop in the train station.......then Arctic is it. What ever happen to variety like back in 2009 or 2007 even ? Now don't take it as I don't like the Arctic sets, they are excellent designs .....they just don't fit the usual city layout, etc., but say a kid who has to do a school project on polar regions would have some awesome props right ? HomerJSimpson Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 @eiker86 Can you please take some pictures of the inside of the base camp, along with the orange plane with snowplow? Quote
jonwil Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 It wouldn't surprise me if the designers and people who work on the City theme WANT to do another Octan Gas Station but the marketing and product development people who make the ultimate decisions have crunched the numbers (e.g. based on the sales figures and popularity of sets like 7993 or based on focus group testing) and decided that an Octan Gas Station wont sell well enough (do kids of the target age for City product like gas stations these days?) No they like Chima or something action themed. Only solution: Chima gas station. Hahaha Quote
lightningtiger Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 On the other hand it could be argued that will all the great vehicles that a new gas station would be called for.......you have more gas stations robbed by crooks than polar research bases. That opinion of mine is based on the larger number of police sets over the last four years and Lego saying kids want police, police and more police. If gas stations don't sell then pizza bars and bike shops do ? What I would like to know from the city design team is why and how they chose what to release.......their logic sometimes is questionable. Quote
paul_delahaye Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 I'm a little surprised we are not getting arctic police this year. Quote
lightningtiger Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 I'm a little surprised we are not getting arctic police this year. True, it's a wonder Mr Freeze and Batman don't make an appearance ! I have finished digitally designing that gas station and have printed out a parts list......hopefully over the next two weeks I can afford the extra parts to build it. Quote

lightningtiger Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 How do you get the parts list on LDD? Ah, discovered it by accident.......you click the building instructions icon, then the HTML icon and it opens the instructions of your model as a windows page.....the parts list is at the end of the print out. Anyway, this bit is off-topic....we better stay on target. Quote
danimarroquin Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 the plane looks amazing and more realistic then the helicopters on the arctic ! Quote
Legoman123 Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 I think I am going to pick up at least four of the Arctic sets. I really think they look awesome. Quote

danimarroquin Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 (edited) I think the gas station its a set that has to be made , we haven't got one for so many years and with all this vehicle production over the years . Why not Edited February 15, 2014 by danimarroquin Quote

Why not It is possible since historically Lego gas station sets tend to come with a fuel tanker, they may not be releasing this one so they don't cut into the sales of set 60016. I get the idea that if consumers see two sets one with only a fuel truck and the other includes a entire station, they will tend to opt for the station despite a higher price package. They may be holding off on news of that possible set until 60016 is retired. Which seems to be very soon according to Lego shop at home. Need any help with that? I Reversed engineered most of it for my modular gas station. I absolutely love your modular gas station, Do you have any pics that show if it works well with the other existing modulars? I've seen some with breakdown trucks but none with Tanker Trucks. Don't think 6562 would count as a service station Quote
lightningtiger Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 (edited) Only two tanker sets have come with some odd looking pumps (2010 & 2013). I don't remember any gas station sets coming out with a tanker in them.....at least in the minifig era ? Reverse engineering complete, parts that I don't have ordered.....plus I've had to sub some parts due to availability or price. Oh, I have to design the stickers and everyone knows I love making stickers ! I've noticed that 'eiker86' on his flickr page has up close images of the Arctic sets........here's the link again.... ..........towards the end of the slide show the newer Arctic images are......I like the dozer. polarscribe Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 (edited) Remember that the City Garage from two years ago has a gas pump/car wash integrated into the set. TLG may consider that enough of a "gas station" for now, even if it is not as elaborate as a standalone gas station. Edited February 15, 2014 by polarscribe Quote

Don't think 6562 would count as a service station Hmm I conclude in fact you are right. That seems to be the only occasion of a tanker truck with a station. My memory has fooled me greatly. However this current station seems a bit small to just be released as itself and a car. It definitely seems incomplete as it is. Maybe a wrecker will be included, which in that case may conflict with the current tow truck out right now. Or not since it is a rather massive one. Quote
