Ardelon Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 Although sadly all the employees would have to be called Larry as he has a name badge. That's something that really bugs me about CMFs wheen they are made into unique, non-multiple-use figures like the Mechanic (Raph) and the Waitress (Tara) when it isn't essential and they would otherwise have the potential to sell more. Well, one way to get around this is to turn the name tag into a company badge - have the barristas work at a coffeeshop chain named Larry('s), the Waitresses at a diner named Tara('s), etc. Problem solved. jimoakley666 Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 I don't understand why so many people are excited about an Abraham Lincoln fig. I can't imagine anything more boring. I'm more excited about the Emmett fig. He's got a helmet with hair. And he looks a right little character, even if he is VERY similar to the every day Lego construction workers. The coffee shop bloke looks great. I'll be buying several of him and mixing up hair and faces for a little coffee shop. That hair piece looks like it could be VERY useful too. I'm loving the robot zombie things. That one with the dynamite, beard and, what? Raccoon hat? Looks good. The panda guy will e a great addition to the existing mascot / fancy dress characters. They're a great addition to my London Bus MOC. Like a bit stag party on the move. Also loving President Business (great suit), the Hawaiian shirt and another Mexican stereotype to go with the previous. Maybe playing guitars in a Lego street or at a Mexican restaurant? The mugs, iPhones / iPads, panda teddy and clipboard will all be VERY usefull too. Quote
Yooha Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 Do I see right, that the parchment in Shakespeare's hand says "to build or not to build"? Another thing: Let's assume that there will be a 80's something space guy with broken helmet. Will it be a regular helmet that will be broken somehow in the factory, or a new mold, where the helmet is forged broken? With the two end joined after all to avoid to be really broken. Quote

That's one solution but I'd rather that Lego just did it properly in the first place. I heard that the figures were named after designers and their friends, etc, which seems a little egotistical to me. Allowing figures to be bought in multiples should have been thought about in the design phase. Edited November 5, 2013 by lifeinplastic Quote
williejm Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 yeah ... I'm changing my mind a bit on this one. LOVE some of them, but the mix is a bit strange. The three 'bots all have great accessories/pieces (beehive!), but I'd so rather see them as non robot figures. Maybe in a future series we'll get reused parts sans-'bot? My biggest gripe would be the inclusion of the three film 'stars' (Emmett, Business, and Wildstyle) as it's a bit out of context for a CMF series. So that makes the series half one thing, half the other. I get that they are including some other characters in other sets, which is clever marketing, of course ... but for the record I'm mostly loving the interpretation of 'New-again' re-imaginings. Quote
AmperZand Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 Are Lincoln's hat and hair one piece or two? I'm hoping two. Does anyone know for sure? Quote
The_Creator Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 This theme is really looking to be great, and if series 13 does terrible, that'll basically tell lego that licensed properties do bad at CMF. And then we'll never get a shot at the superheroes :( I really doubt that there'll be licensed CMF (With the exception to Simpson) since in many cases (especially Superheros) the minifigures sell the set. And thus TLG would loose money by selling Superhero minifigures for $3 a fig. Now, I could be wrong but that's my 2¢. Quote
Dadster Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 Some really neat selections in this wave. I was so excited to get 3 more new zombie faces... That gray skin. Those red, crazed eyes! Alas, they are robots... Quote

fred67 Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 (edited) Well. I wanted to not like these so that I could stop spending money on CMFs, but unfortunately I like too many of them. I don't feel the need to be a completist with this series, but there are some I want just for parts. Unfortunately again, I have no doubt the ones I want will be the most difficult to find, with TLG's inane distribution of characters limiting the best ones to just two to a box. Of course, the Panda is needed if you're collecting the costumed figures. I am still planning a movie stage MOC to use those characters. I also will question the Lincoln character... why would he be popular? But I want one. Not sure why. Perhaps there is another clique of figures that isn't so obvious at first, and perhaps that might offend non-Americans... although there are, of course, a lot of threads running throughout CMFs, an nobody should be offended. But we have native Americans, the Statue of Liberty, and now Lincoln. I would suggest that, while similar to stereotypical sea captains in other countries, the CMF best represents the kind of New England Sea Captain that seems very familiar to Americans. While other figures are equally in place in other countries, a lot of them - the baseball player, the football player, the cheer leaders... are more often associated with the U.S. In addition to the gun-slinger, the gangster, the cowgirl, and others. Frankly, I think it would be cool in the future to see other historical U.S. figures... not just any one, but ones that would be very recognizable, like George Washington and Benjamin Franklin (whose accessory should be obvious). Or further, perhaps some pilgrims. I know it's not conducive to sales to single out specific historical figures, though. A country can have many judges, cops, graduates, natives, etc., but only one Lincoln or Washington. I would not limit it to the U.S., though... who should get the honors? That's a good thread for discussion, maybe. Ghandi? King George? Attila the Hun? Anyway, that's my defense of Lincoln as a choice. A few other figures would work well in a city layout - the construction worker, the I-don't-need-yet-another-cop, I love the Octan executive, definitely need a lot of that hair... I'm assuming it's new. I also want the Mexican and Shakespeare guy to go with their prior counterparts. No skull necessary - the first actor got that... and skulls are a dime-a-dozen, anyway. Anyway, that's my take... this is the first series I don't feel like I need to get complete. I only count two "must haves," and five or six "want-but-can-live-withouts." As always, everyone's taste differs, so I'm glad so many of you are happy with the selection. Unlike a lot of you, I look forward to the Simpson's series. That will certainly be a collection I need complete. So when does this come out? Probably January? Edited November 5, 2013 by fred67 Quote

The box doesn't appear to have "Series 12" advertised on it anywhere. Maybe it would make the average customer think there were 11 series of THE LEGO MOVIE figures previously released? - MJ Quote

fred67 Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 AAHHH!! What the heck is that supposed to be? Like an old piece where some three year old had to draw a new face? Someone pointed out the smart phone has an Octan app... is he supposed to be some kind of tool of corporate masters? Hidden meaning? Quote
CM4Sci Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 STARE INTO IT. Just kidding. It sure is creepy, but it's funny too. I love the box! -Sci Quote
Dragonfire Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 Strange... I'm getting Shakespeare, the Panda Suit guy and Wiley Fusebot (is he the robot with the dynamite?). I may get Lincoln and Larry. Not interested in the others. Quote
8BrickMario Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 So that's why he's called Scribbleface? But I thought it was a cop with two personalities, not that mess. Quote
obsidianheart Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 So that's why he's called Scribbleface? But I thought it was a cop with two personalities, not that mess. I have a hunch it is plot-related. Quote
Ardelon Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 Thanks for the link, Cammo. I must say that face is pretty nightmarish. All of a sudden the "bad cop" persona seems rather likeable... Quote
TheLegoDr Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 That scribble face is creepy, but I'll still pick him. Interesting the box art only mentions LEGO movie, not series 12. Can it be similar to the Olympics set? A side runner, but not an official series number? I looked at the figures on facebook earlier. I like Lincoln's 2x2 tile. Plus, I like Lincoln as a figure. I don't see any reason that I need to justify him, but since I live in Lincoln and it was named after him, I might as well pick him up. Plus, I could use his torso for other figures, so I'll probably buy a couple. I think his hair/hat is one combo, but I could be wrong. I asked my daughter who she wanted, and she wants the females (like always) and the no pants guy because she thought he was silly. So I guess there is some appeal to that figure. A local LUG was discussing how he is the first gay minifigure and I didn't understand how having no pants on and a Hawaiian shirt made him gay, but I digress. I quit following that discussion after that. Quote
DrLegostar Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 I'm not sure I'm the first to mention this here, but there are six females in this series, isn't that more than any other series? I don't recall more than 5 in any series and I'm too lazy to look it up. Quote
Itaria No Shintaku Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 This is not Series 12 then. There's no "Series 12" written anywhere. Quote

A side runner, but not an official series number? Hopefully it won't officially be Series 12, although I'm not too bothered about this as there are many figs which could have been in a regular series anyway. It's the following series (Simpsons) I'm worried about. Hopefully we will get at least 2 regular CMF series next year and that the Simpsons (if they are sadly going to happen), as well as possibly Lego Movie figs, will be 'in addition to' rather than 'instead of' the usual ones. Think we would have heard about Series 12 by now though if the movie series was an additional set. He does seem to have the air of a sex pest about him regardless of whether he's gay, straight or bi! Makes me think of Quagmire in Family Guy. Presumably in the film he'll just be a silly guy who just 'forgets' to put his pants on a lot. Quote
just2good Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 The box is indeed great! It's weird to see no Minifigures logo and no Series 12 logo. I'm guessing the same will be with "Series 13", and it will just be called "LEGO The Simpsons". Quote
Dorayaki Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 (edited) It's nice to see that TLC don't use regular series number so that they would seperate special CMF and original CMF series in the future or discontinue the latter. AAHHH!! What the heck is that supposed to be? Like an old piece where some three year old had to draw a new face? Some kind of official spoiler? I'm more excited about the Emmett fig. He's got a helmet with hair. And he looks a right little character, even if he is VERY similar to the every day Lego construction workers. Technically yes, but if the piece still appears with Emmet in regular sets, it's still not allowed. So far we only see Emmet's whole hairpiece in preview sets. It's coming to surface that more and more headgears begin to combine hats with hair. If TLC think it's a trend, other future City construction sets would also include this piece along with Gail(Lacy)'s, though guys' short hair don't really need them. Frankly, I think it would be cool in the future to see other historical U.S. figures... not just any one, but ones that would be very recognizable, like George Washington and Benjamin Franklin (whose accessory should be obvious). I think there would be some issues to directly make minifigures based on historical people. We've seen some minifigures that obviously used some stereotype images of certain characters (Detective, Hollywood Starlet etc) but just don't use their names. The reason why this series include two notable names could be that they are detailed parody characters from a movie story. Edited November 6, 2013 by Dorayaki Quote
