I have to repeat myself since someone did not read:

"Additionally, the company’s line of collectible LEGO Minifigures will receive its first Hollywood makeover with a series inspired by “THE LEGO MOVIE” cast of 16 new and “new-again” LEGO characters."

New again means that they can release already released characters.

You don't know for sure whether we read or not. How I personally interpret that is saying that figures might closely resemble figures we've seen before, such as Johnny Thunder, but they won't be Johnny Thunder, as we've seen him already. A very close resemblance could easily be considered "new-again". I think the figures will all be entirely new designs, but some of these will, as noted, closely resemble/pay a homage to popular figures we've seen from older sets. I don't see why they would release previously released characters anyways, as they would have done that with CMF's long before.

As for main characters, I find it hard to explain why I don't think we'll see any in this series. I think it's because a.) We're sure to see them in 17 sets, b.) We have NEVER seen any CMF's that are strictly based on a character. We have seen very close resemblances and changed names, but never actual characters with actual character names, so I just don't see a figure being called "Emmet" in the series. :sadnew: But that' just me.

I think that the phrase “new-again” suggests that they’ll include versions of characters that were released before, but they’ll be updated from the originals (similar to other minifigs we’ve already seen released, like the Forestman, Vampire, Ninja, Samurai, etc.).

While a series of classics (Johnny Thunder, Classic Spaceman, Captain Redbeard, Pizza Chef, King Leonidas, etc.) would be cool, especially with the printed cracks on the spaceman like just2good said, I doubt it. However, like Itaria quotes:

"Additionally, the company’s line of collectible LEGO Minifigures will receive its first Hollywood makeover with a series inspired by “THE LEGO MOVIE” cast of 16 new and “new-again” LEGO characters."

It won't be a series of only new figs (background or non-appearing characters labeled LEGO MOVIE EXCLUSIVE to sell more packs/justify a price jack), nor will it be a series of only classics. My guess is that it will be a mashup of several minor/arguably background figures from the movie. Maybe Emmet forms some sort of league to fight whoever the hell he's fighting, and 16 or more of them weren't deemed important enough to be put into the main sets. Maybe the old guy tells of "long lost LEGO heroes", and those will be the characters. We don't know. Any conjectures made at this point are very likely incorrect (mine included). Once more is known about the movie, we'll be able to start making better guesses as to what kinds of figures we're going to see here.

Unfortunately, there's one thing I feel we can be fairly sure about. For those of you begging for main characters, you won't be getting them. New molds/prints/hairpieces will be necessary for all of the characters, making them just as exclusive as CMFs. However, as we know from SDCC, these figures will make appearances in the main sets. A significant percentage of the FOL(AFOLs, TFOLs, and CFOLs alike) population is heavily influenced by the minifigs in a set - they're more likely to buy LEGO sets if they have the 'figs they want in them. I know for a fact I am definitely not going to get the set we've seen so far; I don't like the vehicles. However, if I can find the scene girl and Emmet in a smaller set, I'd be perfectly happy to buy that primarily to get them. (Now, most of us on EB are aware of Bricklink, so I doubt many of us will do this - I'd much rather BL the figures than pay through the nose to get them retail). However, if LEGO makes characters such as these that will be so "in-demand" (both by people who want the new parts and people who want the figures simply because they liked the movie) available so easily for 3-4 USD, it will cut sales of the bigger sets. Wouldn't you rather buy a cheap CMF of Emmet than a full set for him (this is assuming the set isn't going to be favorable).

New again means that they can release already released characters.

What exactly is your point? I did not see anyone disagreeing with you. The phrase "new and new-again" could mean many things. It still does not imply whether we will be getting main characters from the movie, side characters from the movie, licensed characters, new versions of previously released figures, exact re-releases of previous figures, or the time table for how long it has to have been for a figure to be considered "new again". This is what is being discussed here. If you have definitive information on what "new and new again" implies beyond a list of possibilities please let us know. The speculators in this thread are obviously interested in what series 12 is going to bring us.

I've read here that some people are certain that they won't re-release already released characters. I am not sure about that and that sentence is a hint. Just that,

A question actually came to my mind:

usually these minifigures are released on early January but the movie is coming out Feb 7, do you think they will launch them later? I mean, if they will be sold in February, they will be shifting S13 and S14 one month later...or not?

I doubt Series 12 would be pushed back. We have seen LEGO waves for other movies come out months before the movie. I don't think one month before The LEGO Movie would be considered bad. I agree that if they did push back this wave, it would impact all the later waves which would be a problem for TLG.

I thought Series 12 was going to be based on Lego Minifigures Online.

Current talk is series 12 will be based on The lego movie, a rumor of series 13 being based off the simpsons, and I recently heard people recently begin to say #14 will be for the new MMORPG

Series based on the movie and the MMORPG are okay, since we’d still see a variety of characters. But the Simpsons? That’s a very specific license with the only appeal being for fans of Simpsons. I don’t see why LEGO would do that.

I'm leaning towards expecting a regular release date. Thinking of other popular "kids" movies I.e. cars, toy story, ect, promotional items often arrive awhile before the movie to help build a buzz for the entire brand.

I'm not particularly pleased if the film figures are going to replace a normal series.

I don't think there's going to be much difference between this movie wave and a typical series of Minifigures, actually. From what we see in the trailers, the movie will be populated with a mix of minifigures of every conceivable character archetype, from across all eras of LEGO minifigure production, including the so-called CMFs. The whole wave could be just another typical minifigures wave, with a mix of sci-fi archetypes, cityfolk, historical roles, etc., distinguished from the others solely by appearing in the movie (which of course many others do anyway). The press release language re: old classics being made new again could apply to numerous other minifigures from the first eleven series. I'm looking forward to the movie wave every bit as much as other series.

No idea whether any of the movie's major characters will be represented in this series, but if so, it may not mean anything - the movie could have major characters be relatively common, ordinary figures.

To me that means characters that were released a long time ago. I don't think that means characters that came out in the last year or two. But I don't think that is very different from CMF now. We have the Forest Man in Series 1 that thematically was a new again fig from the Forestmen era.

I would say that the whatever era basketball players in the trailer are fair game but the TMNT and Batman are not. Any characters from a previous CMF series would not be possible. They have not been gone long enough to be "new again".

I doubt they'd do a series of Minifigures that had some licensed figures alongside non-licensed ones, so I don't think think the NBA figures would be there.

Well this is disappointing news for series 12, 13 and 14 to say the least. 12 will not have the range of the previous series, especially if we are getting rereleases, series 13 will be about 1/2 redundant (figs you can already get in sets) and have no army building Potential, and series 14 may or may not be good, but I'm not expecting the caliber of a standard CMF series. This will save me a TON of money, but I'd rather be spending that money on quality CMFs...

I understand 12 and 13 being disappointments, but I don't see why 14 should be any better or worse than an e\average series. The MMORPG probably won't put any rescrictions on what could and could not potentially be in series 14. But who knows, maybe its 15 skateboarders and a surfer.

Series 14 MAY be as good as a standard series, but it definitely has the potential to be disappointing.

Well, S14 will have at least one pirate, castle, space, mythology, fairytale/fantasy style characters. According to Funcom, their art department worked closely with LEGO designing minifigures for Series 14 that work well with the game.

I totally agree with this. Also, I believe that Panda Suit Guy is in S12, and also a Sculptor (like Michelangelo in the trailer) so they could naturally fit the series as if they were a normal wave. Furthermore, I am mostly convinced that the CMF are taken IN the movie more than the CMF are taken FROM the movie.

I agree with S13 if they are Simpsons, totally, but not on S12 and S14, mostly because...

...if this is true, I will be TOTALLY excited from S14 more than previous series. My favourite one still remains S9 with the Knight, Cyclops, Forest Maiden ... a very complete army building (I also bought a lot of alien avengers, tho).

Looking forwards to seeing Series 12 and what kind of 'cameo/easter egg' type characters they give us which are likely to be more or less just background characters in the movie. Series 14 sounds like it could easily be an awesome set as well. As for Series 'Simpsons', well, luckily it looks like Chima is going to tempt me into a small army of Scorpions & oddly enough I'll have just the funds for it!

From what Piranha said, it's sounds like series 14 will indeed be of standard CMF quality, which is great news!

This information is from the Gamescon gameplay videos on Youtube, there are a few like by Gamespot, IGN etc. Basically Funcom said in the game they are making themed worlds, which they confirmed Castle, Pirate, Space, Mythology, and a Fairytale/Fantasy world is in a screenshot. They said each world has a "hero" character, that will be in the launch Series (14), in the second half of 2014. In addition to other characters that "work well" with the game. Logically, characters related to a themed world. So you can just imagine a potential Hercules minifig Also, I expect the designs to be very nice, to differentiate them from existing figs that are already amazing like the the Galaxy Patrol and Heroic Knight.

Mythology Land. Wow. I am a big fan of the Classical period logos with the Spartans, Romans, and the mythology CMFs. I wonder if there own section in the MMORG will herald sets in the future. Even if it doesn't more Classical / Mythology minifigs the better.

I found this on funcom.com:

Unravel what is surely an Academy Award Winning* story! Take on quests such as searching for buried treasure in the pirate world, rescuing the kingnapped king in the medieval world, and even helping Zeus himself in the mythology world!

It seems we'll see Zeus in Series 14!
