Wow, amazing building!!

The façade is awesome, so much detail and it's a fantastic representation of the original building! And I love the tram, it looks very realistic, fantastic lines on it.

And the interior is perfect! I love the detail on each floor! I think my favourite is the furniture floor though, I love the two couches in the middle, very clever! Closely followed by the bottom floor, so many wonderful intricate details in the food and beverage on that floor.

Awesome building, I can't wait for you next! Happy building

As everyone has already said: awesome! I like the 'no back wall' design so all the beatiful interior could be admired with ease. I might get some ideas from there too. :classic:

The tram is a nice complement to the building and the busy street, it gives the entire creation even more life-like appearance.

I always thought that an almost all white modular building wouldn't look very decent, but this really shows that even that can be made to look amazing! Great job on the interior and the photography! keep up the great work!

Hi,

I'm from the technic forum but I admire the models you guys do. I started off with space lego many years ago and have an ambition to make a grand building. Great job. Love the tram outside the building.

That is stunning. My mouth was agape scrolling through the pics; it's so detailed and alive. This is truly a masterful creation, I am very happy to have seen these pics.

Great looking building, really like the tram, excellent addition, my fave piece of furniture is actually the black desk, I also like the open concept, think it makes for easier visuals as well as if kids want to play with it, it's easier than plopping off a floor at a time, excellent job!

Fantastic design! The idea to have an open back to see a stunning interiors is very appealing. There's too many details that caught my eye on the inside (like the cabinet on top floor, and the comfortable looking chairs). The exterior is equally (if not more impressive). The mostly white facade, with some black and tan awnings, is impressive, and the life around the building gives a feel of a very busy department store.

I rarely comment on MOCs as I worry I'll start being over-critical. No need for that here though and thoroughly deserving of front page news (more of this please Eurobricks!)

*stands up to applause*

Excellent work Snaillad. I really enjoy your MOC buildings when you post them. Do you think you would ever share these creations on LDD? I loved your Avenue Saint-Jacques. Could you tell me if only a portion of that MOC opened up and the far left side was open backed like this creation?

I'm always impressed with your builds. But what I love the most besides the scale is the interior furnishings. You always seem to breathe life into your builds. This does look very busy and shows how placement of minifigures can make/break a scene.

The interior is great. I always try to do open back builds so you can see the interior easier, so I like what you did there. I like how you double brick the wall to add an exterior and an interior color unique to the room/floor.

I really would love to build something like this for my daughter so she has some huge play building for her people. But I doubt I ever will.

Keep up the great work! I will follow this for inspiration in the future.

Beautiful building. I love the streetcar and the Christmas display window. I'd love a better pic of the ceiling lamp to the right of the Christmas display, as what I can see looks quite brilliant.

Thanks! The lamp is similar to the one in the 'winter village toyshop' just upside down.

Hey, really beautiful. I love the window with the bike and all the interior details. The streetcar is a wonderful touch as well. Frontpage, again!

Joe

Thanks! The window displays were fun to build. Very flattered to be frontpaged.

I was impressed by the facade and exterior details, but when I saw the interior I was extremely impressed *huh*

The details throughout are superb and I like your numerous furniture designs

Thanks! I love making furniture but sometimes I still use some of my old designs from previous mocs.

Ditto, ditto, ditto...congratulations on a fine build! The hanging torsos for suit coats, shirts or blouses are fantastic! Wow!

Cheers!

This is just amazing! Both the interior and exterior. You managed to capture the 30's vibe in the decoration, furniture, clothing etc. Can't wait tot see your next project!

Thanks! Don't know yet what will be next!

Fantastic creation!

Everything looks perfect. The facade is striking and reminds me so much of northern city centers (I'm originally from Carlisle) I think my favorite pieces are the two ground floor areas at either side of the building. Although those two formal chairs in the center of the second floor also deserve praise.

Your MOCs are literally in a different league.

Thank you. I've seen similar buildings around and about in the area but none as grand as this one. The chairs are a similar design to the one in the 'winter village cottage' just without the squared legs.

This is jsut unbelievable beautiful!

All details packed into it is just perfect, the tram, the color choice + such an amezing interior as well! Hats of for you Sir!

Thank you! Although I can't take too much credit for the chairs as they are similar to the one found in the 'winter village cottage' but making I have to say making a building this size makes it so much easier to pack all my ideas in and give them space to be seen.

Thank you! I find open back buildings are alot less restricting as its easier to support the floor and I can build more intricate and interesting fascia's, especially as so many real fascias repeat themselves several times. It makes interior design so much easier. It takes away at least one wall to fill and lets best honest if you wanted to play with it, you could much easier!

The tram was the last thing I done, its perhaps a little fragile but for some reason I went to the trouble making it so that it ran on the tracks. Don't know why! It's something that I am really happy with though! :classic:

Cheers! I has reservations as its only 2 colours from the first floor and upwards whether it would photograph well, I think there is enough texture and definition to cast a few small shadows. Guess it worked out ok in the end!

Thank you, flattering comments. I look forward to see what you come up with!

Thanks! I never design any of my building in LDD. It's all done the old fashioned way, maybe im a dinosaur! Avenue saint jacques opened up on the corner but all floors were visible in the same open backed way.

Then you are not the only one. I've tried LDD a bit, but couldn't really make it work. And I think it is more interesting to build the model brick by brick.

And regarding this masterpiece it is really hard to add any new words to the long row of superlatives. But it is really grandiose! A truely Grand Emp... Department Store in a class of it's own

On the exterior, I really like the contrast between the white and black with a few splashes of colours. Keeping all the details on the upper floors in white makes it look delicate. Too often, I think, details on modulars become too intrusive. But not here.

On the inside, as stated by others, I like the double-brick walls, making it possible to have different colours on the walls. Then of course all the details in furniture, displays... I particularly like the counter with glass display on the second floor where clothing is. It's very elegant. How did you make it? The front is a windowframe, I guess the next is the same, and then normal bricks behind? Is it attached to the floor? If yes, how?

Excellent work. I really like the interior aspects.

These buildings can be a real labour of love as they are so large. I'm particularly interested in this model because by coincidence I've a large Irish department store practically finished for an exhibition next week here in Dublin. It too has window displays and an old double decker tram although it comes with a particular twist that means I haven't attempted to recreate the beautiful interior you have.

That is awesome! I would prefer to build like that but as I do not have the parts available I would be acquiring them from scratch. Do you just purchase quantities of parts for a 'what if' scenario?

Very very beautiful building.... as always.

Bravo !

You must have a big layout now ?

Sadly not! For the last 3 large projects I've made it all comes apart as they are too heavy to lift and use most of my brick collection. Glad you like the building!

Thank you!

It's inspired by a building I've walked by 100's of times, it was really easy to stand in front of it and see what I could/couldn't do in brick form.

Yeah, its two window frames back to back with the items inside, then normal bricks behind. In the corner there is a 1x1 brick with studs on each of the 4 sides. there is two 1x1 plates underneath that brick to attach it to the floor and the cash register covers the stud on the top. Its lying on top of 1x2 tiles attached to jumper plates with a single stud on the floor. Its not particularly stable!

Excellent work. I really like the interior aspects.

Thanks! With it being so large I have to go full on with it as it takes up all of my desk and the weight means I can't move it and just move onto another project for a while. I would be interested to see what you have created. Please message post or messages links if you have pics!

I am trying not to spend too outlandishly at present, so this was tailored to be built with what bricks I had for the best part. I wanted to make it wider but didn't have the extra windows and some other important pieces so I curbed my ambition. I roughly measured out with width and planned out a height of the two middle floors with the grill bricks, the columns were going to be my focal point so as long as I have enough to do them I was happy.

The trouble is the more bricks I have the more ambitious I get. The design is changed and altered in various ways as I am building depending on what I have left which is why the floor becomes a little 'rough' towards the top! Thankfully this only needed a small bricklink order which was to finish off the road and the tram.
