mccoyed Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 That makes sense, SK. I just wondered if I could be more inviting or something, haha. And yeah, it's busy around here lately. I can internet from work. That's how I went through the entire history of GoH so fast. I try to comment on everything also, but I don't usually have much to say in terms of criticism because I am outclassed by most of the builders for the time being, haha. Quote
Kai NRG Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 Whether you say C&C welcome probably won't make a whole lot of difference, but asking for advice on a particular part might provoke some more thoughtful comments. I agree with SK too, it's harder to make long, thoughtout comments on a dozen MOCs than it is when there are just one or two. Quote
Lord Vladivus Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 I tend to agree with SK and Kai, I usually go for smaller comments for similar reasons. Quote
Kayne Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 I think SK is right, however I do tend to offer mostly praise unless I know the builder well enough to know if they would take feedback as constructive or not. I personally prefer tips, and feedback so I can do better the next time, but not everyone does. Quote
Gabe Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 Challenge 2, Category A: http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=96834 I have a question for you guys, by the way. I sometimes see other GoH builders add "C&C welcome" in their topics and I wonder if I should start doing that. Some GoHers are always good for some thoughtful criticism/remarks on a build, but I wonder if people have the idea that I don't want any criticism since most of my stuff gets nice, brief comments and little criticism. I am not that good, I don't think. Should I be making it explicit that I'm friendly toward constructive criticism? "C & c welcome" is a good shorthand marker for being open to constructive criticism, but i think the best way to open a discussion about your moc is to briefly evaluate it yourself in your description - what you feel works, what doesn't, why you went with one approach over another etc, and then end by asking what other ppl think. Many ppl won't bite, simply because of time pressures as SK says, or possibly because they feel they aren't good enough yet. (which is a bit of a missed opportunity in my eyes, becoming a better critic of your own and others work makes you a better builder in the end - so much of building is the choices you make, not just the techniques you use!) But by starting the conversation yourself in this way, you are far more likely to get thoughtful and possible helpful comments. Quote
mccoyed Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 I appreciate your input also, Gabe. Especially since it speaks to me both as a builder and someone who does shy away from more elaborate critiques and discussion of others' builds due to what I perceive as a relative lack of experience and skill. I'll try to find a better balance between humility and willingness to be evaluative in the future. Quote
Garmadon Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 Personally, I try to always have a bit of constructive criticism in my posts, or at least some reasons why I like the build. As to your own builds, it is a good idea to evaluate the build yourself to get people started, but it also depends a lot on what has been going on (if there was suddenly a great influx of builds, or if it is a time of relatively little activity). On another topic, is anyone doing much building just now (besides SK, obviously )? Quote
Alfadas Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 yeah, Garmadon. I am currently making an entry for my topic about viking sets, so far I still have nothing, hopefully this weekend will bring some action. Quote
mccoyed Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 I'm in the planning stages of my Warlords of Nocturnus Phase 3 build. I am starting to get the idea that, though it isn't expressly against any rules, it may be a bit off that I'm doing builds for that. I think I'm the only non-Nocty doing it! After that, if things are quiet for a bit before the next phase of Civil War, I'll concentrate on Mitgardian builds. Speaking of which... is it possible to change my sigfig/main character before the conclusion of Chapter 2? I have this sense that sigfigs/main characters aren't crucially important to GoH unless it is to the individual builders. Some seem to use their sigfigs, others use a variety of characters. I think when I started out, I had more ideas for Captain One-Eye than I do now and I fear I may not return to him and his crew very often. But if it's not necessary to change sigfigs or anything, that's fine too. Quote
TheUtilityBelt Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 That sounds cool, Mc! I'm also in the warlords! Is it because I'm in Kali that you forgot me? Quote
mccoyed Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 Could be... could be... What's your WoN's name? Quote
Scaevola Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 @mccoyed You can change your sigifig any time. You just cannot change guilds Quote
mccoyed Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 Well dang, good to know. I'd never change guilds. I love Mitgardia! Quote

You just cannot change guilds Yes, but you do not need to use your sigfig in all your builds; many people (including myself) have side characters who do a lot of things So if you are thinking of coming back to One-eye after a while you could just make a few other characters to use in the mean time Quote
mccoyed Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 I will probably keep things as is, then. But thanks, I'm glad I asked about this even if only for future reference. Quote
kabel Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 Sorry for my random posting these days. But I've just had three extended weekends after another so I had to take the family out kayaking, stuff like that needs to be done too! Quote
mccoyed Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 That tower is gorgeous, well done. The arrow slits are some of the finest I've seen and the arch over the door is just a perfect subtle touch. There's actually a lot of subtlety in this build. It's one of the best Lego towers I've seen, I'd say. Quote
Infernum Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 New freebuild from me! http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=97103 Quote
Mr Breden Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 Been a while since I posted anything in this forum, I have began working on a new build though. However it probably won't be posted in a while, since I need to aquire a new camera too Quote
MKJoshA Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 Does anyone know if we are allowed to combine 2 different AoM entries into 1 build? Like can I have Wall Phase 1 and Watchtower Phase 1 in the same build and get credit for it? Quote
kabel Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 I'd say that it depends on the size, or maybe if you made it modular. Quote
MKJoshA Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 I just won some S3 elves and Fantasy Era dwarves off ebay. I'm quite excited to use them in upcoming builds Quote
mccoyed Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 So jealous. I love those S3 Elves. I don't have any. Quote
