My husband wonders if Princess Leia is going to become the 12th Disney Princess

The idea's been talked about before but I doubt it would happen since she hasn't appeared in any film Disney's made themselves. If Leia is in the 7th movie then she might be considered although unless the movie takes place soon after ROTJ she'll be very old and probably not of any interest to kids.

Well, if SW7 follows the timeline after the novel stories, the newest and youngest version of princess could be Leia's granddaughter Allana.

I don't think getting a third party franchise means they can regard other peoples creation as their own creation, unless its Pixar who made it under Disney. It might be a personality right issue. There is also Tamina the Princess of Persia, which is a third party license that belongs to Ubisoft.

Also, for other Disney's princess's who are protagonists but didn't join the list (eg, Vanellope, Kida, Giselle), it might be due to that they don't belong to a specific folk or legend that people can relate to. If Leia counts, many other unofficial princess's all count as well.

But it's offtopic. Leia already joins Lego  so we don't have to worry about her at all. If she didn't, maybe Lego would try to get Star Wars license if they didn't have it.

Seeing these sets in store I still haven't bothered to buy any. I guess part of what I like about Disney best is it's storytelling and I guess even though the set builds are great I'm really disappointed by the character selection and lack of story going on. Lacking a villain is definitely a bummer for me and I find that these sets don't really bother to represent the more compelling elements of each of these Princesses stories. I think I'll just wait a while on this theme and see where it goes. Though if I see a sale I might just have to buy that Tangled set.

Child Mini-dolls, I think I'd be interested in that. Though maybe they would require new head molds? Either way, I'm sure they wouldn't be used for the Dwarves.

Maybe a flatter chin? We don't know if Friends would introduce younger siblings for the main characters, however, there are really few notable kid characters in Disney franchise. Unless we're going to see Pinocchio, Lilo or Phineas.

I believe that there should have been Rapunzel's mother at home. The Cinderella castle needs more characters, but they wouldn't be Cinderella's family members. I'd like to see Shan Yu and Lady Tremaine for sure.

IMO it's due to the lack of minidolls from each set, we can only wait and see.

You know what, you're so right? I kept looking at these going 'oo colours and parts!' but my daughter didn't seem to care so much about them (except perhaps Merida and her bow) because, as she said 'you can't do anything.' They need bad guys! Oh a fry pan to the face of some knight would be great. And Bella thinks the horse from Rapuzel is required too. (I second that!)

Yes! I would completely fall in love with a Maleficient, an evil witch-mother, and Cinderella's evil Stepmother! Not to mention what a lovely detail the horse would have been, don't friends already have a special mold for horses? Haven't seen Brave yet (and I don't live under a rock) so I have no idea what I should've expected in that set, but it looks fine enough to fill in the "action" slot for me, but then again, I haven't even seen the movie.

I thought Maleficient could very possibly appear in future sets that feature her own film. However, the fact that no Frozen sets came soon after the film premire results in an unclear direction of Disney theme, which doesn't promote new films as other licensed themes do. I do believe no Mother Gothel came in the first wave is a big mistake.

Speaking of horses, I don't think the horse from Cinderella sets (both Duplo and System version) indicated that they were Gus, Mary or Jaq, same for the cats and dogs from the castle. Even that future Mulan or Tangled sets included "horses", it could be possibly that they won't be recognizeable characters.

Animal character is another issue. We've known that animals play a very important role in Disney world. I was quite disspointed with TLC who didn't consider these elements in actual sets.

^ Spot on. It's a shame, TLC designers often love the characters they are working with (see The Simpsons House) and are very good at details - forgetting the bad guys is one mistake, but forgetting the animals?! For shame. That said, they have included Pascal, and the three brother moulds are adorable. Do kids know the names of Cinderella's Horses? Maximus is such an 'alive' character in the movie, I was really surprised there wasn't a set with him in it - perhaps with just Flynn, like the get away scene!

Is there any news on a possible summer wave for this line? As you guys have discussed, I'd love to see sets based on Mulan, Frozen, and Maleficient!

Unfortunately, we are not getting a Summer 2014 wave for this theme. All the sites that have a copy of the catalog have not listed any Princess sets. However, I am sure we'll get some Frozen sets and more than one wave in 2015. Where I live, these sets are selling like hotcakes! :sweet:

That's good to hear, they seem to be selling pretty well where I live, too! With Frozen's immense success at the box office I hope Lego's smart enough to churn out one or two sets based on it. Even though I'm not into Friends or the current wave of Disney Princess sets (bar the Tangled one), I'd buy Frozen sets in an instant!

Does anyone know when these are due in the UK? Everyone else seems to have them!

They're not here in NZ either, or I think Aus - maybe March at a guess? I often see new Lego appear around Easter.

Disney said that no Princesses from live action movies, like Leia or Gessell will become an official Disney princess. They would have to pay the actresses for thier image which is expensive. I wouldn't count on Leia becoming one.

Well, I don't think Disney had ever considered to make The Snow Queen or Rapaunzel portrayed by real actors, so the conclusion is the same. TLG or other companies can still design toys based on real actors just like many films they've done with. But I'm not sure Giselle would be in future Lego line if she's not in a new film or considered to be a Disney classic personality.

Well even so, Rapunzel and the Snow Queen (nick-name for Maleficent?) were both in animated movie before being put in a live-action film. They also had fairy-tales backing them up whereas Leia and Giselle were both original characters who'd need licensing from other companies involved in their creation (Lucasfilm made Leia, so I'm sure Disney wouldn't really just be able to slap her on anything) whereas if they made their own Princess from one of their own concept developers, money goes straight to them.

Also, if we were to get a fall wave, would we have heard of it by now? I don't feel like waiting a year to see if we get more sets or not, but I am inpatient, so that's no surprise

Ah thanks, even still, that qualifies as an animated movie character. I'm not sure if they'd have to pay the voice actors or anything like that, but I believe we'll only be seeing the typical "princess" get crowned. For instance, a princess who appeared in an animated/cartoon movie first, and not a live action film (though they could appear in one down the line) and one that Disney created (or put in a movie adaption) first, rather than a company they own (like Lucasfilm) so they get all the money, all the credits, and it doesn't seem weird when they have Princess crossovers. Can you imagine Leia having tea with Tina in Cinderella's castle?

Uh, Tiana?

For the thrid-party creations owned by Disney, we've mentioned the Prince of Persia, and future Marvel films, which all happens to have been in Lego line. The only exception seems to be the Muppets. Unless TLC would use the offial Disney crossovers (Kingdom Keepers/Hearts, Sofia the First, etc) as their subtheme of products, I don't think they can combine any two themes at will, like, a Simpsons-DC crossover. Only we fans can take some wierd photoshoots after collecting the products.

Personally, I haven't seen an official Disney crossover that really stands out and combines all Disney materials very well, so I don't expect to see that happen. Not even to say a crossover between Disney and other companies.

I asked about them in Glasgow last week & the guy I asked had no knowledge of their existence! (Good product knowledge!!)

Hopefully we will be getting them inthe UK though
