There is some Disney princess products coming next year, they use the same body sizes as the Freinds characters. Could this be what your thinking of?

I have seen this discussed in a couple of other threads as being a Disney Princess line so have to assume with all of that, it likely is true. Wonder what Princesses will be in the initial wave...youngest daughter is going to bankrupt me I am guessing.

I won't buy these sets but I'm looking out of interest and for my sister. I'm curious to know what type of figures they'll use, because if they do do a cheap set with a nice dress print with a flesh head I may contemplate buying it...

My 2 girls got their first Friends sets this summer - 3 of the room ones with karate, and a design studio and a rabbit hutch. After an initial bit of excitement they've been added to the brick box for use in city-type games and one of the curly hair pieces has been added to a pirate captain (!? - he does look a bit like a 17th century gent now). When I asked why, they said there wasn't much playing to do with the sets once they'd pretended to design a thing, feed the rabbit, karate chop a block. Seems like a fair enough comment really. So I'd hoped the new range might be something more exciting and a bit less insipid; how wrong can you get?

Good job there's a cool girl hero in the Lego movie, and in a fine-looking set too!

Couldn't the same be said for most LEGO sets in the same price range?

I agree that it would be nice for Friends (or a new theme) to branch out into different kinds of activities, though.

Probably could be. So I asked them. And they said that things that other similarly priced sets in other ranges could do were "not boring even once you'd done it a few times, but those [Friends} ones were".

I think this has more to do with the size of those sets than the theme. My 5YO can play with my Friends sets for hours on end, and Stephanie's convertible is racking up a lot of mileage. That said, she also loves to mix and match them with other stuff like the ambulance and the tractor I built her. Apparently she missed the memo about girls not liking to play with vehicles. If this new theme has minidolls and vehicles, she will be all over it.

I wish I didn't believe that Disney Princesses is the most likely subject for a new girl's theme. A brand new IP like Ninjago would have been so much cooler. I've never been a big Disney fan, and am especially not crazy about the Princesses marketing. Even the most interesting heroes turn into simpering clones when they've been run through the Princesses makeover machine. Got a cool story about a feisty princess with unmanageable hair and expert archery and horseback riding skills? Great, let's first of all tame her wild hair and put her in the dress that she HATED in the movie. Then take away the bow and the horse. Now you've got a Disney Princess!

I think you inadvertently hit on a key point. The vehicle set has racked up a ton of long term play time. The more static settings have not.

So the question is, something is different from "Friends", so what is "Friends"? The story, or the minidoll scale, or both?

B) New license for girls in Friends minidoll scale

C) New license story for girls in System scale

D) New license for girls in Duplo scale

And hopefully by then little girls prefer system minifigures instead of minidolls I'd love to see them all in LEGO system. And what if LEGO decides to make a line of the Disney "guys"? They won't look right together Anyway it's done I guess, the first wave is going to be with friends minidolls, I just HOPE they move into system soon.

They're not going to switch to minifigs anytime soon. Theyve just designed this whole new kind of Lego person and girls love them. Why would they want to mess that up?

There are going to be male minidolls in this series, too, if that rumor list is correct. How do I know? Because one of the sets is Ariel's Magical Kiss. Pretty sure she won't be kissing Princess Jasmine. There's also Cinderella 's Castle Romance, which would seem to imply someone to get romantic with.

Sounds like a positively awful theme to me. Lego start moving forward with Friends by giving the girls plucky nature and proactive outlook and then Lego take a huge step backwards with the misogynistic, white supremecist world of Disney Princesses. Well done Lego. Way to go.

Disgust aside, if there's lots of flame yellowish orange parts I'll probably Bricklink them. Can't get enough of oranges right now.

I feel the same. I enjoy the Friends theme and I love how the girls in the story are described as proactive and competent. It has gotten many girls young and old building and the toy is great! It speaks to me in so many ways. (Also I've learned it is the forth best selling theme for 2012 [City, SW, Ninjago, Friends]).

I dread the Disney Princess theme. I won't buy any Lego theme with them. I will probably find the sets attractive but I won't spend a dime. Anyways: it will be a money cow for lego and it will be interesting to learn more about the designs.

I doubt the Disney Princesses theme will compete with the Friends line as much as Megablocks' Barbie line. It also should expand the target audience to those that don't buy any brick at all.

I don't understand all the hate Lego gets. They aren't in the toy business to better the world.

Every year, lots of new themes are launched, most of them won't do well, some will be very successful.

It's all about maximizing profit, the rest is just marketing nonsense.

The different themes don't compete with each other, they compliment each other. Besides, this gives girls who like minidolls a choice as well: are they more into the more modern Friends or the fairy tale-like Princesses?

I personally think TLG will make more money on producing e.g. 6 Friends sets and 6 Disney Princess sets than just 12 Friends sets.
