Saw a couple of pics in the retailers' catalogue. The new Disney Princess theme indeed has minidolls like in the Friends line. The sets are actually pretty nice, substantial builds, but some large <insert that tiresome argument> pieces also seem to be involved. I really like the Rapunzel tower set, which contains new rounded corner panel walls with tudor pattern reminiscent of the classic Castle sets!

I'm particularly interested in the Rapunzel set. I hope they give her the long hair. New castle pieces are always welcome.

My daughter is sure to love these. Tangled is one of her favorite movies and making a tower seems perfect for it.

Tangled is a fantastic movie, im really interested to see this set aswell. Even if i don't intend to buy this theme, its lways fun to see how lisences translates into lego.

Wonder if we'll get the Chameleon(?)

My daughter will freak for this theme, so I'm sure I'm in For the entire line up. But Rapunzel is her favorite also, so that one will be purchased first I'm sure.

Cool, thanks! Can you tell us about the colors of the sets, i.e. if they have a lot of girly colors like the Friends and Duplo Princess sets or if they are more accurate to the movie?

I'm curious about that too, but I doubt they'd give her the long hair. She will probably have the braided hair that she has towards the end of the movie.

Im curious if theres any males in the sets.

Ariel's Enchanted Kiss is bound to include Prince Eric.

You mean Ariel's Enchanted Kiss, right?

The Castle Romance set is also sure to include a male.

The Cinderella's castle is mostly white, with light blue roofs. It seems to be pretty nice build, not just some lame playset with two walls and some furniture. The Rapunzel tower would fit nicely in the Castle theme - the only things that make you think it's Disney Princesses theme are the figure and the boxart. It has grey walls, yellow tudor wall panels and dark blue Harry Potter/Belleville roof. The smallest Ariel set is a small pearl gold gate reminiscent of the Atlantis theme and a brown treasure chest. The Cinderella carriage is light blue. The other set with Ariel has her and the prince in a rowboat (I seem to remember a boat scene in the movie, which I've watched eons ago) and some white structures. The "Brave" set... I don't really know what is the tan+lavender structure in this one, haven't seen the movie.

Wow, all of those sets sound fantastic. Thanks for the descriptions!

What did the boxart look like, may I ask? Did they have like the movie logo and a minidoll drawing in the top right corner, like the Super Heroes boxes?

This is the first thing I hear about this theme, to many topics over here. But this is great news, my girl is only 2 years old, but I will buy these for her anyway.

Thanks for the info! These sets all sound great indeed. Any other characters you could make out aside from the titular princesses and Prince Eric?

Hm, a tan and lavender structure? Sounds like the royal tribune that can be seen in the background here:

Is it just me or would it be really cool if they included a gray version of Prince Eric in the Ariel's Treasures set as his statue?

I never thought I'd be this excited for a Disney Princess theme.

The pics were small and blurry, that's all I can say about the sets. The structure in the "Brave" set doesn't really look like the tribune. I remember a tan wall with lavender doors and yellow flag.

This theme sounds like it could be fantastic. I'm not wild about the minidolls, just because they're a bit less customizable and the hands and legs are fixed, but that won't stop me from picking up some of these if they turn out to be as great as they sound. This opens up a lot of potential for classic Disney movie scenes that I frankly thought I'd never see as official sets.

I guess "Rapunzel's Tower of Creativity" is a little more marketable than "The Tower In Which Rapunzel Was Imprisoned As The Slave Of An Abusive Parent-Figure For 18 Years". This is what kills me about the Disney Princesses line - they'll take any story element and turn it into something fun and fluffy. It's not Rapunzel's prison, it's her Tower of Creativity!!! Woo-Hoo!!!!!

Aside from that, though, I'm actually looking forward to this theme. The greatness of Lego is that you can buy the sets for the basic design and the elements you want, and discard the over-the-top saccharine stuff.

cause it would propably never happen had it not been for the mini dolls.

My question is, does it mean that TLC didn't have any plan for Disney classic series / girls-oriented themes before minidolls appear? It's not a positive reason to make Disney minidolls.

Hello

I have a question.

One of the points of Disney princesses are the dresses.

How are the dresses of them?

I'm assuming that Lego will sculpt new dress pieces. Granted that method would mean their legs wouldn't likely bend, but the minidolls aren't known for articulation anyway.

Posted

They could have cloth dress pieces, which would be nicer for articulation's sake. The main reason I think it's more likely is that it might be cheaper to portray a variety of dresses with different cloth prints than it would be to make several new molds.

Posted

As much as I think cloth dresses would look good I don't know if they'd be practical. I'm mean trying to make them at that scale would be difficult, and even more I'm not sure you could easily recreate the style and detail of those dresses. I mean you're dealing with printing fabric and making it the correct shape at a rather small scale. I can imagine quality control issues with that.

Granted I won't say it's impossible either. Lego has surprised me before and they're developing new techniques all the time, they might manage to do that. But the pessimist in me says if they wouldn't develop legs that move separately or hands that swivel will they really take the time to develop cloth dresses. I'm definitely interested in seeing where this theme goes.
