Prologue

Business hasn't been good as usual on the market, but somehow Covi sold all his scavenged metals.

Life was getting harder for any living being since the Galactic Empire reigned.

On his way back to home...

[Covi]: Uh?!

[Covi]: What a strange transmission this is...It looks like some sort of distress signal?!

[Covi]: Better check it out.

...

[Covi]: It must be here somewhere...

This is my proloque build showing how my SigFig and its droid met.

I fooled a bit around with some SNOT landscaping, and tried to give a bit 'life' with some plants trying to create a 'swampish' feel.

The speeder...well, I just wanted to do a speeder and tried to build one where I could fit in the droid (hence the cargo capacity).

When I was building the speeder I had my mind on the colours I used to create a cheap and somehow old and dirty feeling.

But together with my landscape it feels a bit lacking of contrast together.

That's why I gave the foilage some extra pigments with the lime and orange.

As always: any comments appreciated!

Thanks.

Very nice work with the speeder! It's not overly complicated, sticking to an established design of landspeeder, but it looks just different enough, and you've smoothed it over and textured and detailed it nicely.

The swamp, I really like the experimentation there. The greys seem like stone to me, and then you've got browns (mud?) and tans (sand?) in there, so with that in mind, I think it would be better if there was just — as odd as it sounds when doing something as organic as a swamp — a little more order and pattern to the flora. One type and color of plant over rock, another type and color over the mud, one type of plant sticking up through sandy cracks, another type growing on the edges between rock and mud...stuff like that. Still an organic 'pattern', but with some order to the types and colors of plant used. I can't describe it exactly; it just looks a little too chaotic to me. Maybe I'm just interpreting it the wrong way. The white flowers also stand out to the eye in a way that I'm not sure about.

Do you want this scored, by the way?

I have to say, I love the look of your minifig in his "civilian" outfit. Very nice choice of colors and parts. Like the others, I too really like your landspeeder. The asymmetry of it is very nice. I like your SNOT work for the swamp. There are a lot of different colors that should maybe by minimized to just a couple, but overall a very nice feel.

The speeder is just cool. It really looks old and rusty and some bumps would look cool on it. I have no idea how to achieve that though ... Abaout the swamp, something didn't feel right when I first looked at it and I just didn't know what. Now that Brickdoctor described the problem, I think that's it. It looks too random even for a swamp. The ground colors are random, which is ok, but then the foliage is also added randomly not looking beneath to the color of the ground, which leaves a messy result.

I also like the fig and nice haircut dude

Indeed, the brown is intended as 'mud' and the tan as 'sand'. I've created two sort of pits, in which one I could stick that droid, hence the name 'Mud' I will use during my storyline.

About the plants : the comments are all correct, it was maybe added in a too randomly style.

I was trying to recreate a sort of unvisited place where nature was gone very freely with its vegetation.

The white flowers were chosen because of the color to add something more colourful because I thought it would otherwise lack some contrast since the ground was already in grey, brown and tan...which are also used in the speeder design.

I hope this gives some clarification how I saw it, but nonetheless, I think all comments are very true.

This was also my intention with my build : to get some pointers on this sort of builds (SNOT + plants) : it looks easy but isn't really exactly so very easy. :-)

I also like the fig and nice haircut dude

Thanks! The face and haircut are parts of Jor-Ell. The body is a part of Zolm.

@ Brickdoctor : Yeah, I want this scored as my second free build for this episode. Thanks in advance.

About color contrast, remember that the bright and contrasting colors that stand out will draw the eye towards them. Thinking of an MOC as a form of art, do you want spots of the swamp to be the focal point for the viewer? I think you would want the focus on the speeder and the droid; the droid can take care of itself being white and red in the swamp, but I would've applied the color for contrast to the speeder, not to the plants... Maybe some thin yellow bits; that color almost always complements grey well. Perhaps dark blue instead of dark red, or some bright red worked in with the dark red, and/or some chrome silver, if you have it.

Very true what you say.
