Could someone please develop a Way to use the action figs heads to make brickbuilt animals? I would like the mammoth and the white tiger to become regular giant animals.

Edit: Forget the mammoth, the trunk makes it impossible to look normal.

I actually never thought of using those heads! Unfortunately, the glowing blue and red eyes tend to be a bit unrealistic, but I saw on TBB someone made a pirate beard out of Laval's head!

I wouldn't say the mammoth would be impossible to work with. The trunk isn't nearly as weird-looking as the bony ones on the minifigures, and furthermore, depending on how it's built, it might be possible to replace with a more streamlined trunk. It depends on whether the ball joint is molded into the face mold or whether the face mold snaps onto the center ball joint of a basic beam. It looks like the ball joint is black, so I'm guessing it's the latter, and in that case a custom trunk would be much easier to create!

I have never actually tried to make non-humanoid animals from the Chima constraction sets. Perhaps I should! Unfortunately, all I own so far are CHI Worriz and CHI Razar, but perhaps I should start experimenting...

You could do it sort of like how Exo-Force integrated ball joints and bricks. Parts 57909 and 62712 would be useful to you, I believe.

My first idea was to put the mammoths Head on an elephants (from the Orient theme) body. But the latter comes only in gray.

Well, I don't know if that would be very well-proportioned anyway. I think the new mammoth head is probably slightly larger than the Orient Expedition elephant head, though I might be wrong. A custom solution might be much more appropriate.

If the Chima mammoth action figure head is the same size as the other Chima constraction heads, then it'll be bigger than the Orient Expedition elephant head, yes.

You probably could build a body using the same general shape as the Orient Expedition one but at a bit larger scale, since it's a pretty basic shape that can be recreated fairly simply with basic bricks.

It would definitely be larger. The color would not match well (the elephants from that theme were both variations of gray) and the trunk would definitely not be in the correct proportions.

I would just recommend using the Hero Factory pieces. Maybe you could use some parts from last year's constraction Laval?

I found many of the Summer 2014 Chima Speedorz sets (70150, 70151, 70155 and 70156 if I remember correctly) at my local LEGO Store (Westfield Shepherd's Bush) today, so I picked up 70151 (Frozen Spikes) and took a few pictures of the set's contents: https://flic.kr/s/aHsjXp2uFx

But what I found more interesting was this double page spread at the back of the instruction booklet detailing most of the new 2014 figures: https://flic.kr/p/nwwJTy - look particularly under the Worriz minifig at one of the large sizes, and one of the sets he's listed as being in is 30265 - is this possibly a brand new Chima polybag set that hasn't been mentioned yet?

Thanks for the scan and pictures! That must definitely be a new polybag- nice spot!

Yes, thanks for the pics. I like the look of the set, mainly for the eye-catching parts. Content seems light, but I think that might be a running theme with the new Speedor sets.

Also, fom that scan I posted of the instructions, it looks like Mungus has exactly the same head cover piece as the smaller mammoths. Could this mean we now have a bigfig with a fully removable head?

And I would be inclined to agree with you Fritzy, the Speedor sets seem to have been rather lackluster this year. £10 seems rather much for what you actually get in my opinion, but there's enough new parts here to keep it interesting :classic:

Oh, the new TECHNIC piece is glorious. Gotta get a handful.

There seems to also be lot of cool stuff going on the figures, guess I have to bricklink some stuff after these are released. The new phoenix armor looks fantastic. It's also nice to see there are leg prints without toes or claws as they work well with regular minifigures too. I'd wish to see the torsos without the armors, though. Hopefully someone does reviews soon.

Absolutely. Here in Canada, the standard price is $17.99, which is too much for sparing designs. With maybe one or two exceptions (e.g., Banana Bash), the first wave of 2014 Speedor sets did indeed look lacklustre from a distance -- Stinger Duel is especially off-putting.

A few from this second wave look a bit more promising, but I'm still wary over what seems to be dubious play value. As you pointed out, there are some interesting parts to potentially compensate for these faults.

It's been a while since I last looked at the Toy Fair photographs, but have any others caught your eye that you're thinking about buying?

Posted

^ Well, I definitely wouldn't recommend Stinger Duel myself, the only draw there is the 2 exclusive minifigs, but even then the price tag (£15 here) makes it feel like a ripoff, not to mention nearly impossible to play. I tend to buy the Speedor sets only if it's the cheapest way to get a minifig. None of them really tempt me enough to pay RRP, so I'll probably pick up the rest if they ever go on sale. But having said that, I'm still waiting on the three Speedorz sets we haven't seen yet, I may buy them if they contain new characters. However, looking at 70150 again (it's on the back of 70151), the "claws" part has a rubber band powered function too which makes them snap shut.

Oh, and it's not obvious from the pictures, but the splittng boulder piece (the packaging refers to it as an "exploding rock") is very sensitive when closed. Just tap it and it'll spring open.

Sounds neat. Is it similar to spring-loaded missiles in that respect?

I wouldn't say it's exactly like a spring loaded missile, since the exploding rock comes in 3 pieces when you open the set and works by using an elastic band. But in terms of energy storage, both the exploding rock and the spring loaded missile work from very similar first principles :classic:

Wow. That piece is probably one of the most useful I've seen. I think I may actually pick up one of these, as the new (I think. I haven't actually seen what the different parts in the original version look like) Speedor design is far more useful to me than the old one.

While we're ogling the new Speedorz, I want to revive something:

What happened to the legend beasts? We were going to get a mommoth, a Phoenix and a couple others, where are the pictures of those?

That must have been a wonderful dream you had!

Or... it may have been my fault...

When I first translated the set list from Hungarian, I believe I said something about legend beast sets. I used Google Translate (we know how accurate that can be), and was kindly corrected a post later by someone from Hungary, only to discover that those sets were just Speedorz sets.

There is a new mini game on the Chima website, you have to catch falling Chi orbs with fire Laval, nothing special but you can get a cool animation at the end.

Yes I just browsed through that because I remembered you inserted the price tags too, sadly no (the Hungarian prices). And some of the sets were thought to be legendary beasts, then Yooha corrected it.
