I agree it doesn't sound like the largest set. Unless the 3 buildings are fairly substantial.

It's interesting that lake town will end up with 5 buildings. With a few extra sets and some creative bricking, could make for a very nice display.

Well if the main building is the Town Hall seen in the movie with that crossbow thing.... then I expect that building alone to have 500 pieces minimum.....

if not it can be the second biggest set i agree.

Possibly.... however I expect 1 of the 3 buildings to be atleast a tad bigger with the device to fire that black arrow..... so I am expecting to have atleast 300 pieces more.... so we are talking atleast 800 pieces + dragon

Sounds like the biggest set!

But hasnt the assumption been that the biggest set in helms deep size? can't remember what size the next to largest set is supposed to be.

edit. next to largest set is another 470 piece set, supposedly, so i guess laketown is biggest then!

Shame the biggest set has so little potential for new cool minifigures...

Alfrid? Bain? fine we need those, but not if they take the space of new armored soldiers or bolg for example.

really wish the descriptions were better for the hobbit sets..

The 3rd movie being game dlc, will proapbly end up seling a complete version of the video game, wich MIGHT come with a figure aswell. might even be both lotr+ full hobbit version of the physical game.

Well Its possible.... Its hard to say really... its entirely possible that 3 structures can take even 1200 pieces IF LEGO wants them to....

I mean I can easily see a 500-600 pieces Town hall, 400 pieces Watchtower + a structure thats 250 pieces..... would easily come to around 1100-1200 pieces + accessories and figs or can there be Bards house....

its hard to believe that LEGO would make 3 structures that are smaller to fit them in a 69.99 set ... I would expect them to make only Town hall in 600 pieces for the 2nd largest set...

With Smaug being as big as the recent Castle dragons, he might as well be in 79017, which I'd prefer since his size doesn't require him to be in the biggest set anymore thus giving the Bo5A a better representation in 79018 :sweet: This also makes an appearance of bear Beorn more likely  Size doesn't matter that much, but I just hope they got Smaug's design right :classic:

Edit: @Alcarin: You're right, if the Town Hall is included, it would have to be the biggest set  But we don't know what qualifies as a building in the eyes of the Toy Fair reporter

Their color chosie will be interesting, cause in the movie he is very mucch affected by the ligthing.

Is the Town Hall the only main building? What would the other two be. Maybe Bards house, and the mayors house? Or were those the buildings included in this years Lake Town Chase?

The master's("mayor") house is the town hall. Last year we got the jail and the armory (theoretically)

Well maybe if lake, town is the largest set then perhaps 79016 and 7 will be for Bo5A.

I would hope so! so that means 11 minifigures for bo5a? some of them being duplicates obviously.

Might more sense too if there are mainly generic minifigs so you could buy multiple sets for your army.

well from the rumored amount of pieces it'll be sets similar to mirkwood army, and laketown chase. wich means 7 new unique figures.

Elven soldier, orc soldier, dwarf soldier, Dain, Bolg thats 5 wich we NEED! Then theres new Thorin, Fili and Kili wich SHOULD be included, thats 8, so hopefully Bolg is in the Laketown set.

Bolg, Bard, Bain, Alfrid, Legolas, the Master in the laketown set along with smaug?

I really hope Bolg is not in the Laketown set..... atleast not if Dragon is in the same set... totally illogical. its like putting Legolas in lake Town set.... no need!

There is a need. To free up space for other minifigure in the other locations where the potential for cool minifigures are greater.

That's a good list. But is it reasonable to think we'll get everybody important in the movies?

Lego should make an effort to do so. SO far they have been pretty good at covering every characther in the hobbit theme.

Nah PJ butchered Azog/Bolg so much I would rather they removed them alltogether..... Bolg is a useless filler in the movies to be honest thanks to PJ..... Bolg is needed just as much as that annoying lake Town guy is.... and thats 0 id rather have 2 lake Town Guards instead of both of them lol or random civilians

Hm....interesting news!! Although Smaug is likely to be extremely undersized, I am glad that we're getting him. The Elrond vs. Witchking set sounds intriguing!! Hopefully Lego will be able to use any new molds for the glow-in-the-dark minifigure to also give us a "normal" ROTK version of the Witchking.

Lego needs to make a new body mod for smaug anwyays right, so why not make him t-rex size? imagine that size with a long tail, long neck and large wings!

Current t-rex and dragon size.

LotR/Hobbit There will be DLC for the game when the third movie comes out.

CALLED IT!

There will be a Smaug similar-sized to the Castle dragon.

I guess that rules out everyone's dream: a brick built 1000+ piece Smaug. Even with deskp's suggestion of a T-rex size dragon, I'm certain I will be very disappointed when the first pics crop up.

The Witch King minifig glows in the dark. The Elrond fig looks like the polybag figure. The bargeman’s son comes in one of the sets (3 buildings, an addon to the Laketown Chase)

It sounds like at least two sets were showcased, a Dol guldur set and Laketown.

Nice fit, but TLG might just re-use Frodo hair.

They might, but i think that means he'll end up looking like another hobbit, considering every hobbit has that hair. They need to make him appear more like a human child than another hobbit. Less curly hair is a fine way of doing that. Besides, Lego does enjoy making pieces available in more colors right?

Hopefully Smaug will not be exactly the same size as the castle dragon. He does at least need to be a little bigger. If they go down the noncreative route and just rehash the dragon mold, then the color and print would really be the only difference. Maybe they can somehow incorporate Smaug's weakness into the design.

While you bring up a good point (and indeed, this is probably what Lego will end up doing), I'm still not sure how I feel about it. Making a molded creature of that size begins to stray too far from being uniquely "Lego", and into generic action figure territory, if you know what I mean.

I'm kind of surprised that we have info on 2014 Hobbit sets already. The last wave just came out a month ago. I'm happy though, since we're for sure getting Smaug, the Witchking, and Elrond.

To the topic of how Smaug will be done, deskp is right in that Smaug's going to have to have at least partially a new mold if it's based on the castle line dragons. I mean, his head is a lot different than those, and instead of the traditional 4 legs 2 wings, he has 2 back legs and his front legs are part of his wings. So i'm curious what the end result/design will be.
