rm8 Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Place behind cab of red truck is so empty for BB. Quote
Zerobricks Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 The red car slightly reminds me of Trevor's car from GTA 5. Quote
jantjeuh Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 (edited) Maybe they can slightly improve the bucket lift and propulsion speed though i don't believe there will be really improvements... Compare the slow speeds of the features of the 42009... Why should TLG now try to make bucket faster... Kids will be satisfied... And the jerky or better said crappy steering is caused by bad design decision and can not simply fixed. IMO servo Motor is completely unappropriate for articulated steering... And for AS you really Need no return to center because such models should be so slow in speed that RTC is quite useless or even contraproductive... Therefore using a servo for this is bad design and can not be fixed so we get a well working AS... Just my 2ct Just wait for the Ultimate 42030 to fix all that and more All flagships as of late seem to have some major 'flaws', which can be fixed with some modding. Keeps it interesting for us AFOLs! Edited January 28, 2014 by jantjeuh Quote
jantjeuh Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 (edited) Nice wheel loader efferman, but it doesn't have a green engine Edited January 28, 2014 by jantjeuh Quote
Seasider Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 I love the Volvo .... The model looks good and comes with a collection of motors etc definitely going to try and get one as to the red pickup this would normally be on my radar being a collector of buggies and the like. But i just dont like the front end, the grille and lights don't work in my opinion. But a b model buggy could sway me! Quote
Paul Boratko Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 (edited) You know one thing that I noticed in that red truck video is the front and rear wheels really leaning inwards and outwards due to those new hubs being so loose. It is going to be a wobbly mess with no flat surface making contact with the ground... I built a small monster car type vehicle a little while ago using those hubs and wheels and it does the same thing... The red car slightly reminds me of Trevor's car from GTA 5. LOL.. Yeah, it does. That means they will be a licensed part, thus unavailable for purchase. No doubt about that.. There goes my hopes of doing a Christmas themed car later this year... Or I'll just steal them from my wife's bricklink store... Edited January 28, 2014 by Paul Boratko Quote
Ondra Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Trevor car is kaiser jeep mixed with land rover, this is duneloader for sure . Quote

Keeps it interesting for us AFOLs! Ah, i thought you mean 'fixed by TLG'... Of course this loader can be redesigned by a good builder but nevertheless this remains a disappointing flagship ... Anyway: if i would be interested in another front loader then i would build effermans, ist Looks and works well... But actually i needn't any further front loader after building D3Ks one, the swingloader which brings sonething new to the party... In contrary to this new 42030 regardless if ultimate or not ;-) Quote
Blakbird Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 They did use the servo for steering. Interesting. This must be for play-ability for kids. It's also a little odd that considering there is a servo for steering, it does not return to centre all the time, in most of the video, the loader was not in the straight position? Does this indicate a new remote control? or was the person demonstrating, just holding the servo in the full lock position? The use of a servo for steering of an articulated machine is odd. Don't get me wrong, I love the servo for cars. We waited for it for a long time and it works especially well with the train remote. However, this loader uses the regular remote meaning that the only options are steer or straight, nothing in between. You will very often want to steer at other angles, and you certainly will want to steer at a much lower rate. A linear actuator with an M motor is perfect for this kind of thing. I guess I'm glad they found another set in which to get the servo out to the masses, but I think this actually harms the realism of the set significantly. This truck is badass as hell .I dont know, but I fall in love instantly.I looks like more some pimped 2WW american truck. The truck is a lot bigger than I was expecting. That's a lot of red panels! Thanks LEGO. Quote
Freekysch Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Hmm, i kinda like the Volvo Frond Loader, i do not know why, i just like the old 8265 better. It looks more detailed, more ... beautiful ? Excited to see the dozer pics, tho. Quote
EyesOnly Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 I wasn't impressed with the pickup when i first heard about it since i'm not really into those kinds of vehicles. Seeing all those panels changed my mind. I love the bucket on the loader. I hate that steering. What were they thinking using a servo for such a function? BTW what tires are that? They looks really big. Quote
Rishab N Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Since the volvo is licensed will it have a proper alternative model? Or will it be like the Unimog with only one main model Quote
EyesOnly Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 the tires are from 8110 unimog As i suspected. It'll be great to have more of those. Since the volvo is licensed will it have a proper alternative model? Or will it be like the Unimog with only one main model I sure there is something proper. I can't think what that would be though. Are there any other things that can be done with the bucket? Quote
dhc6twinotter Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 I'll pass on the loader, unless I find one super cheap. Poor steering, slow loader operation, and bulky cab design don't really interest me that much. I wasn't expecting a working engine though, so that's nice! The yellow rims and new bucket are awesome though! Hopefully, this is just a preliminary model that still has some redesigns. The loaders by efferman and D3K are much better, imho. The red truck is much better than I anticipated. The overall looks of it is pretty awesome. It's nice to see the old suspension arms still in use, and it's great to see all the red panels. I'll have to see the price before I decide to buy it, but I like what I see so far. Quote
Blakbird Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 I had previously missed the fact that the Volvo comes with yellow wheels! This will eliminate some of the workarounds required by MOC builders: The real Volvo has yellow wheels, but they are very solid whereas the LEGO wheels are open and look like they belong on a sports car. It would be nice to close off some of that space..... Gotta love the bucket though. It looks exactly like the real thing. Quote
Wiseman_2 Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 On the pickup, there appears to be a yellow lever behind the right side door. I guess it has the usual two point gearbox to switch between functions. It also has one of the new 3L worm gears for the winch, though I still don't see the specific advantage it offers over the 2L version... The more I look at the loader, the more it grows on me. It looks brutish and rather ugly, but it certainly has a charm... still, from a mechanical standpoint I daresay it will be rather simplistic. Still a bit on the fence until I see more of it, especially considering my ever-shrinking budget for sets Quote
Anio Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 An LA for steering would not be reactive enough. I'm convinced the servo is the best option here. Quote
davidmull Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Loader looks great, maybe the steering will be improved before release? Should the servo not make it return to center though? Also anyone notice the old style lego beacon on the roof,it's a nice touch and I wish it flashed :) Quote
efferman Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 (edited) does somebody knows the partcount of the volvo? @ anio Mini LA ar working perfect and in a realistic speed. btw speed i dont know why they have made this big gear reduction for bucket lift. i have a drivetrain which goes through the complete loader with a 1:1 gear ratio and i can go digging in sawdust. edit² Blakbird this in yellow would fit does lego ever made a planetary transmission? JGW3000 Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 THat pick-up truck is going to bring out the inner red-neck in me. Its prime for PF'ing as well. Any word on whether its a model that can accept BB, etc..., like 42024 or 42006 - nevertheless, I'm already setting aside some motors for this one. Quote

You don't have to worry about the axle sliding around through the new worm gear because it has bushings on each end... It's easier to stabilize and work with, plus it is 3L instead of 2L which works with the basic Technic system of odd numbers... I would like to know who these people are who set up these displays... You have wheels on the Volvo front loader facing different directions, mirrors on the truck not positioned correctly... Jeez.. I wish Lego would hired me to go around and set up these displays, I'll make sure the models are set up properly for the public to see... Quote
