First off, Grover, welcome to the Guilds, and particularly to Avalonia. I might be of some assistance getting you off the ground here at the start.

1. Yes, you need to create a sigfig and name, and usually some sort of backstory, too. How detailed or simple that is depends on your preference. Posting the picture of your sigfig here on this board gets you officially added to the roster.

2. You have the option of claiming some sort of land that is not already claimed. There is no requirement that you do so, however. You can claim it now, wait a little bit, or choose to claim nothing. And there are castles and forests and magic everywhere, so build all the magical-island castles you want...

3. Just start building. There are not (yet) any current challenges going, so you can build anything you want anywhere you want to build it (assuming it fits GoH). Freebuilds are any build not within a challenge, and if you have the time and desire you could build twenty a week. Or once a year. Whatever fits you. Book II is coming to a close, but not until probably May of 2017, so you have plenty of time to start building now. The Nocturnus Civil War will be the final chapter of Book II, and it has just started to be introduced, with the challenges still not revealed. I would not worry too much about points, either; just build what you want to build.

I hope that helps! Ask any questions you might have here, and someone will answer for you! Again, welcome to Avalonia.

Thanks a bunch for all the helpful info!  I recently moved so I've been trying to dig out all my bricks, but will try and get a sig fig together with some backstory in the next few days.  This sounds pretty relaxed, which I'm happy about, and I'm really excited to begin building some freebuilds!

Lady Gwenllian has traveled here from her distant homeland across the sea to start a new life, fleeing the tyranny of the despotic Emporer Lantz.  She has brought with her only a few possessions and men at arms, and of course, her trusty steed Cedors.  Her journey has been long, and the winter is upon her, so she is scouting coastal locations to choose a place to build a temporary shelter before the long task of building a castle begins.

Is the area near this penninsula taken?  I have been unable to locate the most current map of Avalonia.  Gwenllian would like to claim this area as her own.

Here's the most current map, from mid-July, though I think there are several territories missing from it that have been posted since then. I am pretty sure that @en_zoo's territory, at least, has not been added, and probably a few more (I got busy and stopped my updating a while back; one of these days I'll get back to it again, hopefully). The small peninsula you wanted is called Farrveil, and is claimed already.

For consideration, Lady Gwenllain would like to claim Prenmôr, the coastal land on the northern coast of the western continent-island thing, next to Ambalar.

Does this look OK?  I tried to encompass the river not to try and claim it (as I think it would make a realistic border) but rather to try and keep it on the map so as not to get run over by the border line.

I have updated the map of Avalonia again, so hopefully it will help new members with their land claims to avoid confusion.

A few claims could not be added, such as @Columbus019, since his own map indicates that his territory borders Mitgardia, but there is no such territory open on the guild map, and @Brandon Stark has his island but not his mainland claim, since another builder is already there. Other than that, it should be complete. If I missed anything, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Apologies for the extremely long wait time for my build; admittedly I am a better story writer than builder, and I've torn apart countless builds as they're too mediocre to fit the standards of GoH. My port build is getting quite large and I might not finish it for another month or so, and I really want to introduce my character. I'm really open to ideas right now, from what to build to what to include in my build. Again, sorry for taking so long, it bothers me too.

Start small, and do not be intimidated by what you see others doing. If you wait until your builds meet the "standards" you might never actually build anything. Build it, post it, and be humble enough to accept (and importantly, learn from) the critiques that others give you. No one on this forum is here to tell you that you suck, or that your build is just the worst, or something like that. We want you to succeed! But honestly, just post something. If you were to go back to the early days of SoccerKid6, or Blufiji, or LittleJohn, or any of the others you see building masterpieces every other week, you would find something very different than what you see now. They have just had more time observing and being critiqued on the forum than you. A vignette of a small corner of a barroom could be a good place to begin a tale, or introduce a character, as bars are always full of stories and interesting folk. That is my advice.

Thank you. I plan my first build to be in some kind of room. Also, can I build in Hesperia? If you say yes, I'll PM you the details.

Yes, of course, just keep in mind that it is an fleshy elvish land, where humans and yellow faces are mistrusted...not forbidden, mind you, just mistrusted.

As HQ already said: don't be too much impressioned. Just start building, so we can give you some CC and in no way you'll be better than everyting you're now looking up to

Thanks for the welcome!  I am trying to get my bricks together and somewhat organized after my move.  I still have yet to find everything.  I have some ideas for the introduction of Gwenllian, so will post once I have some things built.

Finally had some time this weekend to unpack some my my collection and also bought some bulk Legos at a retailer near me.  The real steal was I found Daniel Siskinds Blacksmith Shop for $35!  They didn't know what it was and so priced it inappropriately, but I was not complaining!  Hopefully be able to get some stuff built and pics this weekend.

Is anyone interested in doing a collaboration with me? I just think it would be interesting if part of my sigfig's story is connected with that of another. If you are interested, please answer and I will send you a PM. For those of you who are waiting for a build from me, I should have something ready in the next few days. :classic:

The idea of a collab sounds great. Unfortunately i don't have any time right now. Not to mention my bricks are either tied up in another MOC or are in one of several "to be sorted" bins. Whenever I have free time again, I'm intending to use it for Lego again. I'm just not sure when that will be!

It's okay if you don't have time [yet].  I could build first and you can build when you have the time. A collaboration with you would be great considering the proximity of Dragonstone to Oros. If you just can't, it is totally fine. There are always other Avalonians. :classic: If anyone else is interested, please answer. I think I can have around 3 people in this collaboration.

Man I would love to do this unfortunately im going away soon for the rest of this month and most of next month:sceptic: so prepare for a period of inactivity. I would still like to do something once I get back, maybe it could be involve the retaking of eolas, which I will be resuming late January.

What do you have in mind for a collaboration?  I am not sure how these work.  We each build a part of something or we try to make copies of each other's sig figs and use them in a scene?  It sounds intriguing.

Collaboration's for the win! I'd love to participate, but unfortunately my time is a bit limited, because...

...of another collab!!!

That does however mean you can start expecting some big things!
