Looking forward to that! Nice to see you back in full good old dG productivity btw :classic:

I'm going on the nice Swedish paternity leave from April 1st for about 6 months, so even though I will be the one doing most of the household chores then I'm hoping to sneak in some more building time then between cooking and changing diapers

Congratulations. I am envious of European work rules sometimes.

We are still waiting on a few more votes for the Attack of the Drow Challenge - Mpoh, Simon, Jason, Niku, Kern, and any other Avalonians that still wish to cast a vote.

Once the voting has wrapped up, I will be posting the next task - which is more of a long term task - and will be open to all guilds. We may have another all-guild task coming in the near future as well....

DG - I do not know the name of the spiked barricades, and I can't remember where I saw them (aside from WWII movies) but the Hand of Corruption troops need to discourage mounted attacks. I was going to use a felled tree trunk, but decided to go with the barriers instead.

Carson - Excellent Elven build!

Gideon - I am incredibly jealous of your 6 month leave. I got 2 weeks, one of which was spent in the hospital, and I accomplished exactly 0 builds during that time.

Thanks for the comments on my build. I am trying to get standard barn and house designs that I can use to build a larger town. I was very happy with how the barn turned out.

The spiked barricades are reminiscent of caltrops. Possibly used as early as ~330 BC. The design varies greatly, and are mainly intended to hinder the movement of mounted, and chariot borne troops.

Edit: also, punji sticks perform a similar role.

RG: Wow! Just two weeks? I´m glad to live in Sweden. When my first son was born, I spent 2 weeks in the hospital due to his premature birth. But that did not take any days of my parental leave at all. So this time with my second son I´m only home 5 months...

Sounds great with the challenges! I´ve started up my new moc and hope to have some building time in the next week!

Sorry all, I've dropped out of existence lately, and even when I do show up my posts are sporadic and incomplete.

This must not continue.

I have much planned coming up, so stay tuned.

As for my vote, it of course goes to deGothia.

I'm excited for the next Challenge, but even more so for what's to come in our lil' tree-hugging Guild!

Hello guys my vote goes for Hammerbro33, all entries were nice.

Edit. I forgot to mention that Moc was indeed particurally eye catching rogueang.

Gideon; sounds great! I will also be off work from april to august so I hope I can build when the little one is sleeping!!!:)

Nice, best time of the year to take parental leave :classic:

It wouldn't be possible to persuade you to build something GoH-ish for the Swebrick exhibition in November then?

I might possibly want to join GoH and I'm leaning toward Avalonia as a guild... But I'm not sure yet. How exactly does this whole thing work? What all do you do in GoH? I read the first page of this thread and it explained the basics, but any more details you guys could give me would help me decide whether to give my alliance or not...

There are buildings challenges one of each guild on the course the book 2, were members decide with their builds and stories along the guild members the course of action for the future events.

For example Avalonia is the more classic castle feeling like guild, Mitgardia has snow, Kaliphlin has sand and Nocturnus has darkness.

Be wary to decide where to join, Avalonia For the Win.

There was just another person deciding which guild to join as well where many chimed in on how to choose a guild. Heres the link to that topic. Link

Apart from what the first page said, we all in GoH go about making freebuilds that depict an event that we wanted to show that fits in with the GoH storyline/lifestyle. There are also community builds, guild-specific builds and Challenge builds that have a number of limits and a prompt for the builds. To answer how this all works, the only suggestion I have is experience. You just need to jump in by deciding upon a guild, making your sigfig, and start with some free builds that make up a backstory for your sigfig. Right now, we Avalonians are voting for the Challenge II story builders. If you look through some recent posts throughout the guilds, you'll find that GoH isn't strictly business--we socialize as any other forum would. I hope you find a fit somewhere in GoH. :classic:

Most welcome hammerhand! Looking forward to your mocs!

Glad you are back Jason! I have to build some mocs showing de Gothia come and visit you in your county!

Gideon: Yes indeed! Last time it was in the autumn but I think spring is a liiiitlle better! =) Haha we have to see about that swebrick thing! In Uppsala right? I´m actually planning to go there as a visitor at least! :classic:

Your choice of guild should be based on the guild whose building style you like the most.

AVALONIA

Avalonia is based upon Arthurian England, and has deep forests like Robin Hood's Sherwood Forest, but much larger. It also contains the Mystic Isles, where the mysterious druids live. The southeastern heartland of Avalonia is rolling plains and grasslands interspersed with decidous forests and savannah. Avalonia generally has a temperate climate but is colder to the north and warmer to the south.

Avalonia is more of an agricultural guild, and has the greatest concentration of Elves in all the guilds. Chivalry and Might are two of the most important traits for many Avalonians.

MITGARDIA

Mitgardia is a mountanious region heavily forested with coniferous trees and a good portion of this land is continually covered in snow. The far northern regions of Mitgardia are tundra, with great expanses of icelocked seas. The southern end of Mitgardia is significantly warmer, and resembles Avalonia climatewise.

Mitgardia has a harsh climate, and most Mitgardians are hardy survivors who have lived happily with little and less for their entire lives. A proud Mitgardian could handle themself equally in a snowstorm, a battle or a tavern. Many Dwarves and Gnomes call Mitgardia their home.

KALIPHLIN

Kaliphlin is reminiscent of the African and Middle Eastern deserts with many scattered oasis. The lands along the coastlines and the larger rivers are very fertile and lush. The eastern portion of Kaliphlin is primarily jungles and swampland, while the northwestern corner is more of a savannah. Kalihplin is warm year round, and the only the highest peaks usually see snow.

The prime occupations of Kaliphlin are merchants and scholars. Kaliphlinites pride themselves in their ability to see profit in any situation and be wise enough to solve matters without a fight. Kalihplin is a melting pot of culture, and you can find most races represented in one of Kaliphlin's cities.

NOCTURNUS

Nocturnus is the most remote guild, and has the most hostile of terrains. Nocuturnus mountain ranges rival the Mitgardian ranges, but are more barren and dry. A great swamp covers southern Nocturnus and this blends into jungle as you go south. Nocturnus also contains badlands and forests, and large portions are still unexplored, or at least unknown to the residents of the other guilds, but you could most likely find any terrain you could think of somewhere within the limits of this guild.

Nocturnus is home to many outcasts - Orcs, Minotaurs, Reptrians, Scoundrels, Renegades and many who are persecuted through no fault of their own. Nocturnus is also home to a fair number of Dwarves and Dragons as the well as the Drow. The standard Nocturnian does not exist as it's residents run the gammut: good, evil, vile, noble, strong, weak, cunning... Some may say that Nocturnus is more evil then good, but there are deep bias against many of the residents that are unfounded. Except the Drow. They're Evil.

Edit: In the time it took me to write this up, Hammerhand already decided. Oh well, hopefully this well help someone else decide. Welcome Hammerhand and Olaf Anderson!

And here's my SigFig, Sir Brychan Cedry

Bio -

Sir Brychan Cedry is a knight who is the lord of a small estate of land in Avalonia. He grew up in an isolated forest in the care of a mysterious old man who took him when his parents were killed by an orc raid at the age of 3. When he turned 20 he joined the Avalonian army as a way to seek revenge on orc-kind for the death of his parents. He quickly was promoted through the ranks due to his skill in battle, and at the young age of 22, he became a knight. He still has a burning hate for orcs, and that hate is only surpassed by his hate for Nocturnus-made pie, due to an unfortunate incident that happened while on military duty in Nocturnus. He doesn't talk about that incident. Ever...

Not sure if I did this right. I had some trouble with the pics.

HA! That is great! You've already started the trash talk, and it only gets better from here!

Is there an updated map of the available lands in Avalonia? I couldn't find one, and I wan't to make sure I don't start a war by claiming someone else's land...

Oh, and I'll look out for those bearded women... and men... and bears.

Welcome Hammerhand.

I think the map on the first post is the most up to date.

Look forward to some of the new challenges and hope I budget my time better this round!
