Welcome Bacon and Osric, to Avalonia! :)

Alright, hey fellow Avalonians! I have been extremely busy this summer, and have not been able to build with my Lego pieces for 1-2 months. :sceptic: So I have not been staying updated with GoH, what have I missed? Can someone give me a quick summary of what has happened in the last 2 months?

Thanks guys! I hope to build some mocs soon, (and have a WIP on a very special creation I'm hoping to finish before December  )

A very, very short summary: well, the challenge for Avalonia ended with DeGothia's winning if I'm not mistaken, and the nex challenge is coming in these days in Mitgardia! :classic:

Dear Master,

As ordered i headed north to the county of Meldrim.

After several days of travel I crossed the Aryth river and reach the city of Mygalos, from there it had been easy to follow the main trade road of the county till the capitol Meldrim.

I was crossing the Golden Plains when I had the chance to see the young leader of those land : Leki from house Qiliel, arboring both his personal colour, black and blue and the usual colour for all avalonian Lords.

Historica_0031.jpg

He ruled the county since the fall of his father at the battle of Cedrica. Some say that he is too young to rule during those time of trouble, but till now he managed to maintain unity among the different factions of the county and began to strengthen the border of Meldrim. But with the trouble in Nocturnus and some worrying rumours about Mitgardia it seems that it won't be a quiet reign for him.

I hope that i will be able to find a good inn in the capitol from where I will send you my next report.

By the hand of Quarks.

OOC :

Hello there !

Right out from my dark age Historica is for me a way to get motivated to do regular MOC (I have never done this... the one above must be my first :)) within a nice story line.

Well it is also a way to improve my English writing skills !

I hope to improve my building skills so don't hesitate to comment/advise on my creation.

To make things clear my character is Leki count of Meldrim from house Qiliel. Quarks will be the character that describe the county, I think it fits perfectly for the first Avalonian task.

Concerning the land claimed I would like to claim the following territory :

MapMeldrim.jpg

As you can see there is already a part of the land claimed by MiloNelsiano, so please tell me if you agree to modify your border according to the map above.

The reason why I really want those border is that I already map my county (see below) and it would be a long work if I have do change it.

Sorry to bring the matter there but I have not access to private message at the moment (new member on Eurobricks limit :-p)

I wonder also it it is possible to have personal faction and so personal colour inside Avalonia. Like for my Sigfig I plan to have faction displaying personal colour alongside Avolonian colours, is it ok ?

Also is the scale ok ? I haven't seen any information on this matter. Graduation in miles are ~ 0/3.18/6.36

Thanks for reading.

Welcome amongst our Ranks, master Leki! Great intro - lovely map and great way of describing your lands.

As to your question on colour: It is my understanding that we are not too harsh on the colours. Flying the guild colours is a good show of loyalty, but I see no reason not to fly your own sigil alongside. (I am not the one to make the final ruling on this, though.)

About scale - someone said Avalonia was about the size of France or a little bigger - Not too sure, though. You might be able to deduct the proper scale that way round.

I hope you guys can agree on your little border issue and would advice a diplomatic solution making room for all. Lets not have a mini civil war on our northern borders....

Here is Osric Farwind, son of Orys, and heir to the land of Oros. The Farwinds are a very humble family. Despite being Highborn Lords, they believe in working alongside the citizens of heir land rather than commanding them. The current Lord, Orys for example, works on the Family's farm. Osric has worked in the castle's blacksmith, smithing weapons and armour. Because of this, many other nobles look down at the Farwinds, calling them the Peasant Lords. The Farwinds' humble nature has also pevented them from keeping a family coat of arms or colors, as they believe them to be vain. More of their history will come in future builds. Their seat at Valley View Hall should be up tonight. C&C please!

Welcome, Osric - 'tis good to see more lords declaring their allegiance to Avalonia!

I like the idea of the peasant lords and the conflicts or challenges this can give. And I think the minifig represents that quite well.

I am looking forward to seeing more!

Welcome Baconius and Osric, looking forward to your builds. :)

Also one quick question, can I start on Task 4 before I choose a map part?

I should think so - all you need to do is to name the location of the build. However, with the recent influx of new lords, I'd suggest you hurry and claim some land - Otherwise, their will be nothing left to claim!

ALL HAIL AVALONIA!

I don't know why but my Quote button is not working. Leki--I have no problem adjusting the border to allow for this. I really wanted to border Mitgardia for Story purposes, so I can understand your desire for the same. Good to have another neighbor!

Welcome to all our new members! Avalonia's numbers seem to be steadily increasing lately, is someone out there doing some heavy recruiting?... Or it could be that people are just foreseeing Avalonia's inevitable rise to global domination.

Yeah, that's probably it.

See, honourable *cough, barbaric* neighbouring Guilds *cough, cough, tribes*? This is how civilised Avalonians settle disputes - with diplomacy, honour, and logic. (Might be on account of these dreadfully tight tights... One really just want the trouble to be over with, so one can go home to one's castle and get them off in a bloody hurry... )

Welcome Osric, Baconius and Leki. Leki, that is a superb introduction and a beautifully made map. Geographically, it is quite unrealistic though if you think about where the mountains and rivers are. Usually a mountain river flows between parallel ridges. Your golden plains will be flooded pretty much all the time by the fast flowing mountain streams when it rains. I would suggest you put a mountain range along the northern border or extend the flood plain on the Mitgardia side.

Thanks all for your welcome and answers.

Thanks :), it's good to have some neighbour as it seems that our "dear friend of the north" will become troublesome in the near future... (Especially because it seems that some of them began to resume mining along the border recently !)

Just to clarify what I have in mind when I draw this map because I did try to get something somehow realistic ;)

On the west you got the sea, coming further from the east you get one river which merge with the Aryth river around the Rehes tower. This river flow east to west.

Aryth river flow in a loop : in the south west to east, then south to north from Saphir Lake and then join the other river at Rehes tower. (Anybody got the name of this river coming from Mitgardian mountains ?)

Rain from eastern part of Razors mountains is going into Daenerys lake or in the Natals Forest part. (let assume at this point that this part of rain manage to reach the river either in it northern or southern part through minor rivers, I have only represented main rivers).

I consider that rain from Mitgardian mountains goes into the river without reaching the Avalonian side... except on very rare occasion

The northern part of Meldrim and especially along the river the land is not flat but more like a little canyon like this one (with maybe the side a little bit less high). Maybe that was what you have in mind by adding a mountain range.

220px-KatherineBigWalls.jpg

I also consider that both Mitgardian and Razor Mountains stop most of the clouds from the sea and thus Meldrim is not a too much rainy land. ;)

What do you think of this ? Could it be considered as a coherent system ?

I will try a way to render the canyon on the map to clarify this.

Thanks for explaining Leki. I still don't really think this is realistic, typically both sides of a canyon look very similar, you have one mountainous side and one peneplain side. The placement of Daenerys lake is very unusual too, it would be more typically on the left or the right of the mountain range because that's where the water would flow to from the mountain streams. To be honest it looks like you drew in some natural barriers in a square around the territory just for defence. Of course, it's only a game so you can do whatever you like. I'm just giving my opinion that it looks unrealistic in case that is helpful.

From the way I read the map, most of Meldrim County is on a plateau, higher in the north than in the south. I can see how the river border with Mitgardia is a deep but narrow canyon, that makes its way to the sea. I believe there are a couple geological reasons this would happen.

I confess that I do have this point in mind when I draw it. I will see how it is possible to modify a little bit the map to make it a little bit realistic.

Anyway thanks to pointing out those points.

Did you draw that map Leki?! :o

Well, I draw the map using photoshop brushes designed by some skilled people. So I guess that it is more a collaborative work that my 100% own :)

I have another slightly silly beginner question. What's the norm on posting unfinished things for feedback before continuing? I'm currently waiting on a few more bricks to (hopefully) finish a blacksmith shop so in the meantime I've been trying to build blacksmith tools but this isn't really an area I'm good at and I'm struggling with keeping things in correct proportions I think.
