Dapper-D2 Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 My mission: To intercept Imperial fighters trying to prevent the Freighters from evacuating the citizens of cloud city. My squadron Pork, Rinds, and I we’re out numbered ten to three, but we’ve seen worse odds than that before. Make that nine to three. I just blew up that Tie Interceptor and his comrade is now hot on my heels. He probably thinks he has the upper hand, but I’m just baiting him in. He’s going to die today and doesn’t even know it. "My name is Dapper, my friends call me Daps, I’m a pilot for the resistance and dogfighting is my specialty." My ship is a Z-95 headhunter, aptly named, but I’ve nicknamed her Teeth because of her ability to bite down hard in a battle. She’s taken care of me in many a scrape and I’ve returned her the favor. Yep, no astromechs aboard this ship just my instincts. Ship and pilot, old school style, the way it should be. Special thanks to Artizan for Photoshopping my picture! His willingness to help out the enemy spared me much time and frustration. The fun stuff! I have built my Z-95 in a modular fashion so it is completely customizable / upgradeable. More fun stuff. Cheers, Tim Quote
MstrOfPppts Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Nice headhunter there, Dapper. I love the use of the large cone part, it really makes the back of the fighter smooth! Not too fond of the lightsaber hilts for the legs though. Should be done different ... Your minis are also nice and different from the LEGO ones, yet still recognizable. Maybe you should put it all on a 48x48 plate, and try to distribute it like in the first image, so that the photoshoped version is only a change of background and the deletion of suporters and not putting different images together. This way your MOC will look complete and not just a few scattered elements. I also love the explosion! Maybe another clear plate attached opposite to the other would look even better. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 That explosion, I love it! The shock wave makes it look incredible. Very nice work on the Z-95, too. I think I would try to have fewer stripes, though -- they look a little comical. Quote

Thanks MstrOfPppts! I’m not fond of the landing gear either, because I planned a dogfight scene I wanted to keep the ship as sleek as possible so I omitted it from the build. The landing gear was just an afterthought for photo purposes. I would however like to modify the ship to include some retractable landing gear at some point. I also have plans to include the base plates underneath the space battle depicting scenes aboard the Redemption, time permitting. Thanks for the suggestion on the explosion it probably would look better that way. That explosion, I love it! The shock wave makes it look incredible. Very nice work on the Z-95, too. I took my inspiration for the ship from this picture here, but I think you’re right it could be toned down a bit. Edited August 20, 2013 by Dapper-D2 Quote
Dapper-D2 Posted August 20, 2013 Author Posted August 20, 2013 This is the image that Artizan Photoshoped for me. Quote
MstrOfPppts Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Oh, well that's just what I meant, just make more solid ground. But I doubt this fits into the 64x64 base? Quote
Nom Carver Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 You got some very intense space action going on there, the forced perspective works great, my only complaint is the color scheme of the head hunter. Quote
Dapper-D2 Posted August 21, 2013 Author Posted August 21, 2013 But I doubt this fits into the 64x64 base? It fits with plenty of room to spare. It's just the Z-95 with some mini builds propped up behind it. You got some very intense space action going on there, the forced perspective works great, my only complaint is the color scheme of the head hunter. Thanks Nom Carver! I was thinking of old dogfighting biplanes when I made it and really wanted to give it some character in that regard, but I am considering alternative color combos now based on the negative feedback. LegoFjotten Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Nice scene, and nice Headhunter! Agree about the colors being a little busy though. What if you just try to replace one red element on the nose with white or grey, and one or two of the red stripes on the wings with white? I think that should tone it done nicely. Quote
Bob De Quatre Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 I really like that Z-95. The forced perspective works well, and you've build some nice micro MOC Quote
Donnie Bricko Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Very nice scene. The Z-95 is great. I hope you gain the advantage over that Tie Fighter and blast it to pieces Quote
Rogue Angel Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 Very nice minis and the space battle is excellent! I too really like the explosion. You've also done a great job on that Z-95. Colors can be changed but the shape is the important part. The body of the fighter is my favorite part. How are you going to jump to hyperspace without an astromech though? Quote
kermit Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 Like what you did with the ship. The dogfight looks awesome. Quote
Jacob Nion Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 That explosion, I love it! The shock wave makes it look incredible. Agree. This explosion is impressive enough to represent the end of the first death star. The forced perspective works perfectly. The first pic reminds me a lot of those from 2006 on the last page of the instructions. Quote
Dapper-D2 Posted September 27, 2013 Author Posted September 27, 2013 Thanks for the additional kind words guys! I’m glad you like the explosion. I think it turned out nicely, but I still think there is room for improvement on it. Maybe someone else will give the explosion a go in the next episode? Very nice minis and the space battle is excellent! I too really like the explosion. You've also done a great job on that Z-95. Colors can be changed but the shape is the important part. The body of the fighter is my favorite part. How are you going to jump to hyperspace without an astromech though? Do you need an astromech for that? I just thought that the Z-95 didn’t require one, because the official set didn’t have a spot for one and none of the pictures I Googled appeared to have one. So, I guess aboard the mothership. Quote
