MacGyver Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Hello! After quite some time, I'm building Legos again. I intend to replicate some of the steam engines from late 19th and early 20th century. I'm starting with steam tractor, or sometimes called Locomobil (or Lokomobila), which I designed in LDD first. I built it as close to real thing as possible, but also added my own ideas. Let's go to the pictures: Trailer: Both together: Here's the real model: There are approx. 900 bricks in this moc... That's it, for now :) Quote
monsinjor Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Wow. It is real beauty. Excellent work MacGyver. Thanks for sharing. Quote
skriblez Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Very nice Moc :) I do like steam engines :) Quote
Lakop Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Nice. I like the detail of the steering wheel, the mix of technic and what I call "normal" lego bricks. H Quote
GuiliuG Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Very original and it looks beautiful ! Good job. Quote
Nazgarot Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Nice moc! I love the originality of it. Does it have working steering? It seems like it might... -ED- Quote
EyesOnly Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Nice model. I like all the details and how real it looks. If i see correctly then there is a chain that goes from the front wheels to a winch like thing under the vehicle but it doesn't look like it can move. Quote
andythenorth Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 So not really Technic (more Model Team / Creator?) but a very nice MOC Quote
1974 Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 So not really Technic (more Model Team / Creator?) but a very nice MOC This is the Model Team forum Quite nice MOC. I had the pleasure of riding a .. something like that a few years ago Quote
MacGyver Posted August 21, 2013 Author Posted August 21, 2013 Thank you all for the nice comments! @Nazgarot No, the steering isn't functional (beside fixed axles, the chain would have to be differently placed in order to be ), but it's built as it was on these machines (well, quite close to it)… And here is the picture of the actual trailer, which was my inspiration: Quote
Junpei Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Nice MOC MacGyver! What made you choose the 1x1 smooth studs for the trailer? I don't see anything like those on the real model. Quote
MacGyver Posted August 23, 2013 Author Posted August 23, 2013 @TwentyLeggedHen I didn't exactly replicated the trailer, but added some things of my own. Things that I thought that would make it better. For example, back of the trailer is my design and roof is a bit different too, as you noticed… Quote
Paul Boratko Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 You know, this is a really clever MOC..! Well done..! Quote
timslegos Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 I like all of the details you added in, nice work. tim Quote
Paul B Technic Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 Thanks for sharing this, very well done. Quote
quilkin Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 For anyone interested in other MOCs like this, I made a similar (but bigger) steam vehicle about 3 years ago. You can see it here. I did post this on the forum when I first made it , but cannot find the thread any longer. I still have most of it built (getting a bit dusty now), but have taken the roof apart to use for other projects. The original idea was to make it run from the pneumatics, using compressed air, but it needs far to much power for that. I may rebuild it now with electric motor(s) and simpler pneumatics to simulate the original pistons etc. Quote
zux Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 For anyone interested in other MOCs like this, I made a similar (but bigger) steam vehicle about 3 years ago. It's huge! Just before checking the pictures on the link you provided I thought how big it could be, as motorcycle tyres are already bigest in Technic. The result - wonderfull wheel design! Quote
