Herky Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 what I read was rumors but everyone was speculating that it was the old version, agree the new would be harder Here is the site I was reading: http://brickfanatics.co.uk/lego-2014-rumor-mill-mini-architecture/ Quote
kermit Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 Are there more that one sources to give this rumor of the mini cooper some credibility?. I must admit it does make sense that lego may go in this direction with the creator vehicles that they have made for this line. Quote
TomLego Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 I've been hearing, reading about rumors of a MC for over a year. Still, nothing to confirm it. I certainly hope its true. Quote
Taaron Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 Loving the Creator Monkey, and how expressive it is with it's build. I just wonder why they're still using those Knights Kingdom ratcheting joints, when they're using the ball and socket joints for the rest of the articulation. I'm not a fan of modifying Lego bits, but does anyone else have a massive temptation to set the monkey up with some googly eyes? Quote

One of the MBA kits goes into a little bit of detail about why different joints are used. The main reason for the Knights' Kingdom ratchet joints is that they can support a lot of weight, no matter what the angle. I discovered how essential this is myself when I built the Dread Colossus... there's no way that back then I could have used ball joints to support the tremendous weight of its body, and even the ratchet joints can barely manage it in some poses. Now last year, Hero Factory introduced a new friction joint that could help replace those Knight's Kingdom joints in some applications. It is molded with a rubber insert that allows a ball joint to support a lot more weight. But it has yet to appear in any System sets. Quote

I'm just wondering why Lego never redesigned to be symmetrical or spinning it off into a pair of pieces instead of friction joint + connector brick. That's always bothered me since Knights Kingdom. (Don't mind me. I just have friction joint OCD. :) ) I'm glad you mentioned the new Hero Factory friction joint. I was thinking about altering the Monkey build to use the ball n socket System pieces introduced late during Exo-Force, instead of the friction joints, so I might incorporate that into my build if I need it. :D Quote

I'm just wondering why Lego never redesigned to be symmetrical or spinning it off into a pair of pieces instead of friction joint + connector brick. That's always bothered me since Knights Kingdom. (Don't mind me. I just have friction joint OCD. :) ) Well, there have been asymmetrical versions of the "ratchet joint" in Technic (specifically, 2002-2003 Star Wars and BIONICLE sets). You can see this version here on Bricklink. Unfortunately, it had several disadvantages. It was more complex, and as a result was not as sturdy as the Knights' Kingdom variety (you would have to use additional axles and beams to hold the "male" side of the joint together). It was also somewhat difficult to incorporate into System. The Knights' Kingdom II variety simplified the design a lot and made it sturdier and more versatile, even if it meant that a model using that style of joint might be asymmetrical. The ratchet joints in Galidor were also symmetrical, though they were hardly versatile since they were attached to very specialized leg and arm segments. Quote

kermit Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 I saw online that the mersk container ship is going to be part of his creator wave. If this is true I can only assume that it will be to minifigure scale. Quote
Ondra Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 MIni scale train to competein scale last year red big rig?Shut up and take my money. Quote

If this is true I can only assume that it will be to minifigure scale. I don't follow. Suppose it's true that a Maersk container ship will be part of this Creator wave. Why would you then assume that it will be to minifigure scale? Why wouldn't you assume that it would be just like the Sydney Opera House, or any other Creator set which isn't to minifigure scale, or any other Maersk ship? Quote

TheLegoDr Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 Those sound promising. I'm only partly interested in Creator sets, but I can understand the appeal from other people. I will more than likely pick up a few of these though. Can't wait for pictures! Quote
parksroad Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 That set list makes it sound even more like we haven't got the A-model image of 31017 yet (Sunset Speeder sounds more like a sports car than a race car to me). Don't bigger sets usually have higher numbers? Emerald Express sounds like a train, but comes sequentially before the Forest Animals we've seen images of. Interesting. Quote
TeufelHund Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 Twinblade Adventures (some kind of Dungeons & Dragons type set?) and Mountain Hut sound interesting (as long as Lego's idea of a Mountain Hut is something full of cavemen or tribespeople...not a ski lodge). Quote

I'm kind of assuming Twinblade Adventures will be a plane along similar lines to Aviation Adventures and Propellor Adventures. Mountain Hut sounds like it will be a log cabin along the lines of their Small Cottage and Tree House sets. Quote
David Thomsen Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 Twinblade Adventures (some kind of Dungeons & Dragons type set?) and Mountain Hut sound interesting (as long as Lego's idea of a Mountain Hut is something full of cavemen or tribespeople...not a ski lodge). Twinblade Adventures sounds to me like a series of planes with two propellors... and I think I read that the Mountain Hut will be the next in the series of Creator houses, a small cottage with a 'hill' behind it or something. It was talked about earlier in the thread. Quote
Corydoras Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 I can confirm the Mountain Hut. It looks like a rehash of the Log Cabin, mostly brown with Dark Red roof, a rock/mountain with a small brickbuilt eagle on top, a quad and a small pine tree. Not too exciting. Quote
Cwetqo Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 Emerald express must be something like this: http://brickset.com/detail/?Set=4837-1 Quote
ghostmind Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 As a fan of the Creator houses, I am very excited for the Mountain Hut. I would however like to see LEGO take the house designs to different countries' architectural styles. Quote

It looks like a rehash of the Log Cabin, mostly brown with Dark Red roof, a rock/mountain with a small brickbuilt eagle on top, a quad and a small pine tree. Not too exciting. I imagine there will be a larger Creator house later in the year. The Mountain Hut sounds like the 'Small Cottage' we got this year, before we got the 'Family House'. I am a little disappointed that the colour scheme sounds exactly like the Log Cabin, but then most other Creator houses tend to have white walls and/or red roofs. I don't mind it being small, sometimes I like a quick build... but a larger Creator house or other building later in the year would be very much appreciated. Any idea when we'll get pictures of the Mountain Hut? Quote

I am really looking forward to seeing this set; even more so now. Maybe you didn't use enough exclamation marks. A brickbuilt eagle! A quad! A cabin built on the side of a mountain! Thanks for the confirmation/description of the set. Quote
Corydoras Posted October 13, 2013 Posted October 13, 2013 A cabin built on the side of a mountain! It isn't on the side of the mountain - the hut and the mountain are two separate builds and the latter seems like an unnecessary addition to me, just some grey bricks stacked together and decorated with small bits of greenery. Quote
David Thomsen Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 I'm still convinced an alternative build will be a mine entrance. It would make good use of the 'hill' pieces. Quote
CM4Sci Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Ok, so it isn't actually built on top/into a mountain. It's a cabin, and on the same plate, on the side, there's a mountain. One of the alt builds is a small building on a mountain, though. Also, there's a really cool set with a cat and mouse, similar style to the monkey one we saw before. -Sci Quote
