David Thomsen Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 The Mountain Hut looks a bit bigger than I expected, but the mountain looks weirdly out of scale, I thought it was going to represent the beginning of the side of a mountain, but that actually looks like a whole mountain in miniature, including (I think) a bar representing a waterfall? I actually like the alternative builds more, which is a bit unusual for me. This is only the preliminary image though, so it might change a bit. We'll see. Quote
Leela Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 The Cat & Mouse set is so adorable! A mouse , a cat, a rabbit, a dog, just excellent. I like the mountain lodge but the mountain looks a little weird. I also expected a hut on a side of the mountain. Nice alternative builds. Quote
TheLazyChicken Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 The mountain hut is a must buy, but the mountain seems a little wierd and ackward. Quote
thiot Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 The mountain hut looks like you could MOD something great with two sets. I'd like to make a hut that's a bit bigger than what's pictured, along with making the mountain more of a mountain side than a micro-scale mountain. The Bald Eagle is a nice touch. Reminds me of 6552 Rocky River Retreat. Having said that, I don't view the Mountain Lodge as a true update of 6552 since Mountain Lodge is in the Creator line and not town line. Maybe it's more of a spiritual heir? What do you think? Quote

This one isn't as fun looking as Rocky River Retreat, but it still looks very nice. As an owner of Rocky River Retreat, I'd say I prefer the Mountain Lodge because it is bigger and more detailed, even though the river and bridge are smaller and there is no boat. All things considered, many of the more interesting features of Rocky River Retreat were built from large, specialized parts, such as the mountain bricks, river plate, and roof tiles. This is not an issue with LEGO Creator, where small, basic parts are emphasized. Of course, that is perhaps also reflected in the price point: the Mountain Hut seems to be a $40/€40 set, whereas Rocky River Retreat was just a $30 set. Still, that's not a huge leap in price, especially taking inflation into account. Quote

Ondra Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 Do you think there will be some big car or truck set for 2H?I hope a lot, last big car http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=5767-1 was pretty bad so I also hope for something better. Also there is going to be three years gap between 5767 and maybe next big creator car. Nequmodiva Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 If you look closely at the mountain of the Mountain Hut you can see two of those big rock pieces like in the mountain top of Rocky River Retreat. They are disguised with some other bricks around them but their shape is certainly there. Also in the right alternate model on the bottom you can vaguely see their shapes. I don't know, but to me it doesn't seem likely they came up with the same shape through a structure of basic bricks... Also what are the red and black things inside the cave? Lava, diamonds, bats? It looks like you can see the background through the cave so it's probably more like a tunnel. Quote

I can't find a picture of the set any more but I hope not... rock pieces really don't belong in the Creator range. I don't mind that the buildings have started having minifigs and small accessories, but large specialised pieces will always be wrong. Quote

I don't mind that the buildings have started having minifigs and small accessories, but large specialised pieces will always be wrong. I don't know how I feel about the rock pieces. On one hand, I'd love if everything were built from basic bricks whenever possible. On the other hand... a model like this is already pricy enough, and if all three models can find unique ways of using the mountain anyhow, then I'd appreciate this part as a way to keep the cost of the set in check. In the very least, it's one of the medium-sized 3x8x7 mountain bricks: not the larger and more cumbersome 4x10x6 ones, nor one of the smaller and less versatile 2x4x6 ones. And who knows? Perhaps one of the models will make use of the hollow cavity, in which case a basic brick solution really couldn't have replaced it anyhow. Quote
Boboboum Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 (edited) Hi, I've recently taken interest in Lego since I bought a couple of the 2012 and 2013 sets for myself (Technic, Creator, Seasonal, Monster Fighters). Obviously, I don't have endless funds to allocate to this new found hobby. That's why I'm taking interest on what 2014 will bring us in terms Lego sets (including Creator), as I'd like to schedule my purchases the best I can (e.g. I don't want to buy a huge 2013 set and discover 2 months later that an awesome even bigger set is coming out). My question is quite simple : when does Lego usually start releasing information on ''next year's sets''? For example, when will we know if a new theme is coming out, or another theme gets cancelled? Thanks a bunch (and might I add that Eurobricks is an awesome site that I've been following for a while before finally joining in). Edit: Ah, it turns out Brickset has just published the new pictures of 2014's Creator sets. Link : http://www.brickset.com/news/article/?ID=8331 Edited November 12, 2013 by Boboboum Quote
Redhead1982 Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 (edited) I have to say I'm positively surprised with the Mountain Hut. It's a small building, but it has some interesting parts, and a potential to be extended with couple more sets. The door in medium blue are a lovely detail. Also, the animal sets are nice, and they haven't done those for a while now, so it's good to see some variation in sets. Edited November 12, 2013 by Redhead1982 Quote
jonwil Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 Anyone know which orange color is being used in the sports car? Is it the same normal orange as, say, the new 2014 City Lighting Repair truck? Or is it one of the darker orange colors? (its hard to tell) Quote
David Thomsen Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 Yeah, the Mountain Hut set clearly has a couple of BURPs, it's kind of disappointing. But I understand why they did it, it costs less for them to produce two large pieces than lots of little pieces and we get a larger set as a result. At least the hut itself is very much in the Creator style. I do still rather prefer the alternate builds in this set, mostly because they don't have the weird out-of-scale mountain. Quote

Gnac Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 I don't mind the Mountain Hut having BURPs, because I don't have any of those. I have read that CREATOR sets are good for bringing such things to folk such as me, so I will be buying this for mah inventory. Haters be damned. Quote
antp Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 I don't mind the Mountain Hut having BURPs, because I don't have any of those. I thought the same :D They can be useful Quote
GregoryBrick Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Yeah, 2 bricks out of 550 is a non-issue. Those elements are used appropriately in this set and would be useful for alternates. Quote
Gnac Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 (edited) Brickset has lots of new box shots up, so guess this means that any embargoes have been lifted! I'm getting worried about "31013 Red Thunder", "31014 Power Digger", and "31015 Emerald Express" being represented by small boxes. I've got all 16 of what I call "CREATOR Minis", and I'm currently buying enough spare bricks to build all three models at once. I was looking forward to adding three more of those nifty canisters to the collection, because they have plenty of space for all the extra parts. Edited November 16, 2013 by Gnac Quote

I was looking forward to adding three more of those nifty canisters to the collection, because they have plenty of space for all the extra parts. The transition to small boxes was inevitable. The canisters drove up the price significantly for such small sets. In the United States, there was a huge price increase for these products from $5.99 in 2012 to $6.99 in 2013. I can't believe that the Mountain Hut convinced me to drive to my local LEGO Store and get a CMF Series 11 Mountain Climber to go with it. Quote
Bricked Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 Brickset has listed two new Creator sets. As 'xtremegoogler' says in the 2013 topic... (Never quote pictures, kids. This was just under special circumstances. ) And, in fact, Brickset does list them as 2014 Creator sets. So, this calls for a 2014 Creator topic. Personally, I'm curios if LEGO is going to stop doing the "3 in 1" models. These two seem to have two separate models, not made from the same pieces as each other. Maybe Creator set "2 pack" builds? Either way, though we don't have pictures for any Creator House set yet, I'm sure we'll be getting some in 2014. Strangely enough, we have not gotten a Creator 2014 rumor list yet. UPDATE: 8/21/2013 They look like pretty nice sets, especially the monkey and parrot one which is quite cute. Quote
