LucasLaughing Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Our squad was ordered to secure the gas processing control center to prevent sabotage by fleeing rebels. Command realized that a stray blaster bolt could ignite the tibanna gas and set off a city-destroying chain reaction, so we were told to prepare for hand-to-hand combat. Anyone who surrendered was placed into binders, to be picked up by our back-up squad. Those who fought, well ... untrained miners armed with tools are no match for armored stormtroopers with vibroblades. Our casualty numbers were well within the accepted range. Overall view: Quote
Hobbythom Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Incredible build. Great excecution of an original idea. I really like it! Quote
MstrOfPppts Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Interesting build but I just think it's a little bit too colorful. I miss some rusty brown there and I'd skip the white for the machinery. Some more greeble could also be used - for example in top left corner the plain 2 6x6 plates look very undetailed above and under the light gray square with circles. Maybe turning them around would look better for some level difference. Else there's a lot going on in this place and I like the background story! The walkway surely is my favourite part of this build! Quote
Dapper-D2 Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Wow! I just had my mind blown! I was not expecting this when I clicked on your thread. Some of the best Snot and greebling I have ever seen and just the right amount at that and your addition of color is refreshing. Very tastefully done! You have just set the bar for me my friend! I wouldn’t change a thing. Perfect! Quote
Lobot Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Great work LucasLaughing & welcome to Eurobricks! Another top-notch entry for the Empire Quote
Brickdoctor Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Looking good! Love all the piping and greebling thrown in there. I also like the bits like the six small circular vents, the dots of white, and the TIE-patterned round window that match elements of detailing from the chamber surrounding the processing vane. As far as too colorful, I don't see a lot of colors, but at the same time, I see what MstrOfPppts is saying: Whites, bleys, yellows — they're typically colors that work well together in sci-fi, but they aren't that common as far as the Cloud City color scheme. You've got a lot of color added through the uniforms of the workers, and you want to focus on them more than the background details, so it wouldn't be a bad idea to swap out the yellows for greys...or reds/oranges. Reds and oranges from the freezing chamber and prison cell would add some color and fit the Cloud City look better than the yellows, I think. Quote
MstrOfPppts Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Thanks Brickdoctor for explaining me! I often have this problem expressing myself, especially when trying to tell something doesn't feel right to me. I just have this feeling at the first glance and immediately know something doesn't fit and then I try to figure out what it is and sometimes I interpret it wrongly. I didn't mean to be harsh criticizing anybody's entries and sorry if it sounded that way! Quote
LegoFjotten Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Great build! I like the setting, a nice change of pace from the cloud city interior and hallways! Quote
Nom Carver Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 A lot of details and greebling, I like it very much , but the white elements are kind of distracting, I recommend to use grey instead. Quote
LucasLaughing Posted August 23, 2013 Author Posted August 23, 2013 Thanks for the comments and feedback everyone - I'm very glad I finally joined EB! Great work LucasLaughing & welcome to Eurobricks! Another top-notch entry for the Empire Thanks for blogging my creation and for your compliments - I appreciate it! I think you and MstrofPPPts make a good point about the color; I also felt that something was a little off, and I think your comment about the colors distracting from the main scene is spot on. I didn't mean to be harsh criticizing anybody's entries and sorry if it sounded that way! No worries MstrOfPppts - I appreciate the feedback, and didn't feel harshly criticized. Unfortunately, I disassembled my moc shortly after taking the photos due to lack of space in the LEGO room . Now I know to keep my next build together longer so that I can incorporate some suggestions from you guys Quote
Bob De Quatre Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 It's really nice. Lot of actions and details. Concerning the "colors gate", a simple solution would be to darken the scene. With less lights the colors wouldn't stand out so much, and it may reinforce the feelings of an underground facility. Quote

Brickdoctor Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 It's just a tiny bit on the harsh side, but I like the contrast between the foreground and the background, so I would just darken the highlights just a little bit, and then maybe increase the blues to make the dimly-lit whites appear cleaner. LucasLaughing Posted August 30, 2013 Author Posted August 30, 2013 Thanks for the suggestions Brickdoctor - I'm liking this version a lot more! Quote
