I just finished the set a couple of days ago. To solve this problem I just changed the yellow piece to a black one. The black one is a bit thinner, so no worries.

December 23, 201410 yr Just finished this ultimate mobile crane: Juergen: kudos to you for this awesome model :thumbup: :thumbup: - IMHO it's more a MOC than a MOD... and it is very well designed, you have admirable building and designing skills - i had really much fun when building it - the resulting model works like a charm and performs very well - the XL has no problems to drive this heavy model. Great playability (in contrary to the original crane which has mediocre playability). Cause of the plethora of additional PF-stuff it is a very expensive MOD but IMHO it is worth every cent. Strong recommendation for all owners of the 42009 Nevertheless i have applied some small MODs to this MOD: 1. (the most prominent one): i have replaced RC-ing of the outriggers by two PF-switches: I did this mostly to save one receiver and one sender (which are more important for other cool MOCs ;-). And IMHO this fits better the real live usage, because normally the crane driver operates the outriggers with a cable remote control...you think this is a contradiction? no, IMO it isn't: The lego RC is the replacement for the driver in the crane cabins whereas the lego PF-switches simulates the outrigger cable remote control of the real machine. Anyway: the two switches are very easy to integrate - just one important remark: on the pic above you see that the switches are in a row with the receiver (in the backward direction); this is important because otherwise (if they would be in a row in the frontward direction) they would be one stud longer backward than the receiver and would therefore prevent the crane from endless slewing! for this see also 4. below 2. slightly longer engine bay so the receiver, the switches and the cables are better "hidden": 3. fix for the part-collision problem described some postings above: In the original design this yellow pin connector collides with the DBG 24th gear which drives the LAs. IMHO this is an illegal design. my fix above eliminates the problem - at least there is no parts collision anymore (but i assume the design would still be judged illegal by lego) - aynway: now it works. 4. i have mounted the crane one stud backward - this can be done very easily: This ensures that the crane can not touch the cables at the receiver and the switches of the truck when slewing more >= 180 degree. This is already useful with the original 2 receiver design of the truck but with my switches replacement it is essential because the cables of the switches needs slightly more space... anyway: it has no costs, it is easy and it has no disadvantages. 5. adding some more support for the heavy crane and its mounting plate: 6. some small fixes: - better bracing og the orange L-motor for boom extraction: 7. fixing a bug: That's it. All of these MODs a very small and light. But nevertheless they slightly improve an already excellent model. (all pics can be found in my bricksafe folder: http://bricksafe.com... RC mobile crae) Conclusion: Thank you Juergen for this awesome MOD which hauls up the crane to another and much higher level. And also thank you for the perfect instructions which gives you a very enjoyable building experience.
February 9, 201510 yr I'm nearly finished with the Ultimate 42009. I solved the LA-cam (boom) lift problem by using a #5 axle through the cams and boom lift bracket hole. Then placing the LA's pin hole on the axle. A second #5 was run through the LA and cam axle hole to stabilize the assembly. I realized that the cams now serve no purpose and were replaced by two 60483 beams. I know that one picture would indeed be worth all of these words but I lack the computer skills at this time, to post it. Edited February 9, 201510 yr by Karle

I modified my 42009 to have to Changeover Catch following Bimnomercy idea (http://www.techlug.fr/Forum/post147049.html#p147049) to do it :-)

Both functions have its own motor!

June 18, 20159 yr Yes you could... but L Motors are bigger and need more space... So you have to check if there is enough room for this motors... The speed is almost same, L Motors are more powerful... So the only problem is space... Max...

July 5, 20159 yr This is my version of Jurgens U42009. I believe that I've incorporated nearly all of the suggestions from the forum and added a few of my own. These include filling in some of the pannel gaps behind the cab and on the sides of the crane. The biggest change is the addition of the Christophe boom. The base was modified to allow the boom to lift to about to about 85 or so degrees. With the addition of the second counter weight, an interference problem developed when the crane was rotated 180 degrees. To solve this I shortened the engine and moved the IR receivers forward. BTW the Yellow part is identical in size regardless of colour but I'm sure most know that. January 21, 20169 yr Another bug that I've just encountered myself is the four unnecessary pins (two blue bottom of picture and blue black top of picture) here with turntable removed for the view. As no beams are installed there what is the point of this arrangement? when they could all be black pins finishing flush. I appreciate the gaps are left so you can get your finger tips in for removal of the outer parts Surely neater unless I've misunderstood ?

January 22, 20169 yr I got back into Technics after not having any since I was a kid, 25 years ago. I bought the 42009 from BrickLink over the holidays and completed it last week. I would love to remake it into the Ultimate 42009 but the cost to do so is very expensive being in Canada and having no spare parts on hand. It is definately on my list to do though. I picked up the 42043 set this week and am starting it this weekend.
