WvG_853 Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 (edited) Given that I am away for a work related job for several months I had to set up a temporary place to build at my hotel. I assume you have given instructions to the cleaning staff not to touch your desk! ;-) Edited August 1, 2016 by WvG_853 Quote
HallBricks Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 Hi everyone! I feel like a really have to find a good way to organize my technic beams and panels. My collection is quite big and I have almost all technic parts sorted in similar plastic drawer cabinets as I can see many builders have. Most parts are sorted by part type, but many parts are sorted by both part type and color. Beams and panels are the only parts I haven't really organized so far. They are just placed in plastic boxes and are completely mixed. At first a though of buying some drawer cabinets with larger boxes, but it would easily be filled up after buying some large sets. Tomorrow I will receive the BWE and when that is going to be parted out the collection of beams will grow quite a lot. I would really appreciate some tips on sorting these kinds of parts. I want them to be easily accessible because a build a lot of own creations, and I want the parts to be very easy to find. Thank you in advance /HallBricks Quote
syclone Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 (edited) I have sorted them by size in a lego box ( I love recycling) with separator walls . The 5l are in a smaller box Maybe not super pro looking, but it works perfectly and is enviroment-friendly 2016-08-02_08-42-39 by Alaxaf, on Flickr I sort my panels into two boxes - in one I have black & white panels and the other one is the Cloud Cuckoo land , all the shiny & bright colors are there Edited August 2, 2016 by LXF Quote
AkiyamaWataru Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 My beams are sorted into my storage container system. Some are in extra boxes like the 15L or 13L ones. The rest ist just seperated by deviders for these containers. My panels.... well they are a mess to dig through. Quote

I also think of making something myself instead of buying. I would most likely have a system where I organize both by length/shape and color. Does anyone else have it sorted that way? Quote

bonox Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 wow - that's a hefty dolly Bricktrain. Is there a finished model yet or just a propotype? Quote
Bricktrain Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 This is it with the five rows widener behind it Quote
HallBricks Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 yes some of them in the background of this pic Okay thank you! That seems like a pretty good solution. Quote
nerdsforprez Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 I assume you have given instructions to the cleaning staff not to touch your desk! ;-) not to mention I set up a bunch of hidden cameras......lol.. Quote
bonox Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 Bricktrain - beautiful mate. But you may need to work on the wall behind your working desk ;) Quote
Bricktrain Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 Bricktrain - beautiful mate. But you may need to work on the wall behind your working desk ;) I am, I am currently rebuilding this, but now 3.5m x 2.3m Quote
KirTech LAB Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 Short video about my workshop with English subtitles. The main idea is “all frequently used parts should be in outstretched arm access” :) Thanks for watching! Quote
nerdsforprez Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 (edited) Short video about my workshop with English subtitles. The main idea is “all frequently used parts should be in outstretched arm access” :) Thanks for watching! I've always enjoyed your work. I love the planning and thought that goes not only into your builds...... but even your organization. Well done. I especially love the "just do it" Nike shirt.... front and center. Some strange reason I feel like I need to now go work on something.... Just one thing... in the video you mention your desire to replace your notebook... because during video rendering it heats up to like 95 degrees celsius. Are you sure it is celsius? That is around 200 degrees fahrenheit. That is really hot. If so..... yea, I would plan getting a new one ASAP. Edited August 14, 2016 by nerdsforprez Quote
KirTech LAB Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 2 Nerdsforprez: Thanks a lot for your comment! It's great that you are getting inspiration for new models building :))))) As for CPU temperature - yes it's really 95 C )))) Quote
AkiyamaWataru Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 CPU temperatures of 95c can be normal depends all on the CPU. Mayberry just need to replace the thermal interface material. This can do wonders. My core i7 van reach same temp. Quote
tismabrick Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 Wow, a lot of the working places look so tidy. This is our working place. I share this room with my son. Quote
BusterHaus Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 The main idea is “all frequently used parts should be in outstretched arm access” :) You have a very nice setup and approach to accessing parts. Thanks for going through it, we always see it in the background of your videos. Quote
Edwin Korstanje Posted August 14, 2016 Author Posted August 14, 2016 I have deep respect for the builders that must work on the floor. Quote
Lipko Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 (edited) Building on the floor has some advantages: things don't fall down, much bigger space than on a regular table. But that means unpacking/arranging then tidying up before and after every building session and at least every day. So actually you should feel sorry Anyway, my working place developed a lot during the years: Yup, I don't arrange parts, except for wheels and panels. The other thing I do is collecting rare and relevant-to-current-build parts in a separate small box. Edited August 14, 2016 by Lipko Quote
AkiyamaWataru Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 Oh yeah backache after building.... The worst is when nothing worked you tried to build..... Then it hurts for nothing. Quote

agrof Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 According to the pictures of Lipko, I am in Phase 1 - exact same setup. Quote
syclone Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 (edited) I had the non sorted setup before. Not my style. If I don't know the exact quantity of parts I have every moment I don't know how big I can build It looks like according to lego I am building illegally, on grass Edited August 15, 2016 by LXF Quote
