Happy new year guildies! Hope everyone is well and saw in 2014 in style  (or comfort, if that is more your thing! ).

Just popped by to update the UoP stuff that needs sorting:

Carson Haupt - needs votes for extreme environs (needs 1), studs up rocks (needs 1)

Kayne - needs votes for SNOT'ed tile work, round walls/towers, 1x tree and Life in Nocturnus - 1 vote for all needed

Tomsche - needs votes for flowing water (4 needed, 2 against) and minifig posing (2 needed).

my Stranglehold tower still needs 1 vote for both studs up and sideways rocks, if someone could rule on that please?

Wedge09 is still waiting on 2 votes for or 1 against for microscale - Kayne, myself, gedren and Gideon have voted, can someone else pls look at it? Thanks!

Wedge09 is also looking for one vote for both battle scene and minifig posing for his "If you don't want to align..."

Torgar is looking for 2 votes for roofing, wall techniques, round walls and millitary science for his "Raven's Aerie"

mrcp6d is looking for votes on a few of his mocs, some of them quite old now! :look:Mitgardian fishing trip (needs 1), Retreving Blue Stinger wings (needs 1), Mages Barracks Phase 1 (needs 1 for roof rake, mountains/cliffs and tree, 2 for 1x1 round wall). Please, if the last respondant to the thread is over 2 weeks ago, could you please PM the builder with your vote rather than needlessly bump the thread? PM me as well so i can update the outstanding list with your votes - thanks! :classic::thumbup:

Oh and mrcp6d also needs 1 vote for Chopping Wood.

We are still relying on 3-4 members to do the bulk of the voting - thanks Gedren, Gideon and Kayne for your stirling efforts! If no-one else from Kali is able, then perhaps the time has come to ask one or two ppl from the other guilds if they want to step up and help us out... what do you peeps think? I just don't want this list to grow any longer! :look:

A good idea Gabe, I think we need to ask a couple of active established builders in GoH, like soccerkid, legonardo, degothia, etc....I'd say ZC, but I imagine he is busy enough!

No worries, if no-one has any objections i might shoot off a PM to those three for starters. What about Lord Vladivus as well? I think he suggested the idea a while ago and offered to help. :classic: I think it best to ask for help for a limited time only so we don't make it an onerous deal - maybe 2-3 weeks, something like that?

Thanks Gabe!

I took a whack at that list and approved many of the builds. So that should clear out some of those. Thank you for all your work on this.

Thanks Ska that's a great help. I'll go through and amend the oustanding list now. :classic:

Brickvention building is heating up for me now so i'll probably be dropping by only sporadically until the 20th.

Hey everyone!

A few months ago I stumbled (quite randomly) upon some MOC pictures online and felt the need to get into this world. As a kid I was always a fan of Castle so it makes sense I'd end up in the GoH forums, which I've been lurking for a while, and now I'm ready to come out of the shadows ^^ As I'm interested in developing a merchant/mercenary story, I think I should join Kaliphlin!

For now you can see a pic of "entrepreneur" Q'adris on my profile, but I'm working on a small introductory MOC for him and his second-in-command, Velvet. Should I be accepted in the guild, they will be based on the eastern coast, gravitating towards the north

My, eh, "warehouses" are much further north tho, northeast of Qarkyr and south of the Nocturnus border. But I will learn the laws of Cobalt Vale, in case business takes me there.

Got a large chunk of my Challenge build done today. The internal lighting set-up has been finalized and the base color scheme set. The biggest challenge now is laying all the trans pieces and figuring out where to place the figures and stickers.

I also have a couple Anticlimax builds in the works.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

I'll be sticking to this description:

"The eastern coast stretching northwards from the cape is mostly made up of rocky cliffs with steep fjords cutting well inland. The eastern slopes of the Rakath extend down to the sea, leaving little room for agriculture. These slopes are covered in deep, dark pine forests, and are almost always shrouded in fog." (Sauce) - It just means I have to change the vegetation :D

I wasn't sure if I have put this in the right thread, but as it relates to Kaliphlin I have put the question here.

Having looked at the MOCs made by various Guild members, I would like to have a go at making some MOCs based around a desert port, like what you would see in Kaliphlin - The University MOCs in particular sayed me in this direction.

Not having a PAB store in my country, I'm not sure how to go about acquiring the parts necessary for building in the Kaliphlin style. How do Kaliphlin Members generally get their bricks? Prince of Persia sets seem to be in the right style and colour range, but I can't help but feel purchasing masses of bricks off ebay might be a cheaper method, albeit more time consuming.

The Prince of Persia sets were perfect to buy, I wish I could have gotten a few more of them when they went on clearance. If you can still find them, they are a great way to get the more specialized pieces you would need to build with in the right colors. Plus they come with the ever popular camel!

There are not a lot of not-licensed sets out right now that I have found to be helpful to buy but a couple of the newer Hobbit sets also have great pieces, The Barrel Escape and Elf Army both have lots of tan elements. You might check out the Stars Wars too, I know Jabba Hutt's palace has the perfect color scheme, but tends to run a bit higher than I like to pay for sets.

Have you checked out www.bricklink.com? That is the website I buy probably 90% of all my Lego off of, it is sorta like Ebay because there are thousands of sellers, but all they deal with are Lego. I would suggest this route to get your more basic bricks in tan and dark tan- depending on where you live they run you about .05-.10 cents a piece. Usually it is cheaper than the lots on Ebay and the official online Lego PAB, plus you don't have to deal with the unknowns of the dirty Ebay lots. You can get exactly what you want too instead of getting stuck with a lot of parts you don't need from lots.

I looked at Bricklink, but a lot of the sets don't seem to be available at good prices in the UK and Ireland. There are great deals in the US, but nobody seems to be willing to tell you how much postage will cost until after you have purchased.

However, the individual bricks do seem to be better priced like you say.

@ Lord Butters: As others have said, Bricklink is the best place to get major volume of the parts you need in the colors you want. The have parts available from nearly the beginning of Lego, and several discontinued colors that are also good for desert builds. Shipping rates are an issue, but many sellers that do large volume include on their store's splash page or terms page their shipping rates.

Well, I'm not even going to try to catch up here, but looks like we've got some new members, welcome! Unfortunately I'm just now getting some building time... the challenge deadline is the fifteenth right? I might manege the small one then.

@Gabe, I think asking some of the older other guild members to help grade would be a good idea. I'll try to pick it up a bit once I get settled here, but at best my grading will be sporadic!

Here goes nothing ;)

Bonus! Initially planned to include Velvet in the build, but it got too small >.< so here's a quite small vignette for Velvet, the second-in-command, a flashback from a few years back, when corsairs invaded her employer's villa by the sea in the south.

I've found that if you message a bricklink store owner and ask them for specific shipping quotes (say, shipping for 100 bricks and 10 minifigures), they are generally quick to respond with an exact amount.

My charcters name is Heinsen. He's kinnda like Aladin from the Disney movie. He lives in a small village near the western coast of the Great Southern Ocean. The village is known for a not so wise wiz named Gleambeam. Lets get to the background of Heinsen. He was an orphan in Kaliphlin and was taken in by Gleambeam who actually turned out to be his uncle. Pretty crazy, right? So they live in a white-washed desert house in a coastal village. Sadly he hasn't found a magic lantern. Yet. That's all I have for now, but I'll post more as I think of I't. I hope I get in.

Welcome to Kaliphlin TheUtilityBelt32! (I assume we will refer to you as TUB32 or just TUB in the future )

Post a picture of Heinsen in this thread and you can be a member of this great guild :classic:
