Mike S Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 You better watch out for all our secondary characters... Now isn't that the truth! Let me start listing mine... nevermind, I don't have the time right now. Quote
NiceMarmot Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 Lord Vladivus, some zombies were seen distracting a few Mountain Mummies during the construction of the new casino in Lost Vega. One of them lost a hand at the tables and was looking to replace it. Lol This is hands down the best thing I've read all day! I second that! Cue the zombie and mummy puns... The mummies were just wrapping things up for the day… After losing a/his hand at the tables, the zombie went to the sports betting room, but his camel was dead last. Later he was hungry so he went to see a manure seller to trade sh*t for brains! OK, those weren't nearly as good. I'll have to work on it a bit more... Quote

Lord Vladivus Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 You guys are killing me... Later he was hungry so he went to see a manure seller to trade sh*t for brains! Zombies aren't a fan of fast food. I don't get it The zombie lost a hand, it's a double entendre, the two meanings are: literally losing a hand (with fingers), and losing a hand the gambling term. NiceMarmot Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Not much input on the maps, so I'll post the work-in-progress as it is, and you all can react to them and (hopefully) give me feedback. I'm sure I've missed stuff. (I apologize for the huge post) kaliphlin-map by nice.marmot, on Flickr I think this overall Kaliphlin / Siccus map is inaccurate in its portrayal of Avalonia and the area around Cedrica. I'll take a look at revising that section. But the Kaliphlin part should be accurate at a high level. Western Kaliphlin kaliphlin-west by nice.marmot, on Flickr South Central kaliphlin-south-central by nice.marmot, on Flickr North Central kaliphlin-north-central by nice.marmot, on Flickr South East kaliphlin-south-east by nice.marmot, on Flickr North East kaliphlin-north-east by nice.marmot, on Flickr @TheUtilityBelt32 -- I'm not totally sure what you're asking for, but that area has already been defined a fair amount. Look at the South Central map. Messahmuk is the home city of my character. I can certainly place additional stuff there, and you're welcome to base your character there. But there are also lots of areas on the map with no one living there too. If you look at the detail maps, you'll see lots of towns (the red dots) with no names. And even some of the towns with names have no characters residing in them. Quote
Mike S Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 @NM- Aden's Gate needs to be added to the south central map. Also the druid ruins can probably be added as well. @TheUtilityBelt32- If you want a new city/town then add a dot to the map. Unlike Avalonia, we here in Kaliphlin don't map out kingdoms as it would require a fortune in bricks in order to represent one. To better comprehend minifig scale suppose that each stud equals one foot. that would mean that it would require 5280 studs to equal 1 mile. Quote
Kai NRG Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 As far as I'm concerned the map's looking great! Quote
SkaForHire Posted January 30, 2014 Author Posted January 30, 2014 Another reason there are not fiefdoms is because most of the surrounding land is sand and inhospitable. Although you could have a town/city with a series of hamlets around it at different oases. The town could be the main governmental structure. (That is how I see Eastgate, although the terrain there is different than the rest of Kaliphlin.) Should we locate Lost Vega (or at least where we tell the Avalonian Tourists where it is located?) Quote
Kai NRG Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 ...Should we locate Lost Vega (or at least where we tell the Avalonian Tourists where it is located?) We could have a couple of potential "question mark" locations. Quote
gedren_y Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I always thought of Lost Vega as being located somewhere between Petraea and Qarkyr. Somewhere east of the Lick of Salt, but northwest of Kek'baan Al-Thir. The exact location requires knowledge of the Parched Lands, and most 'guides' will make the trip overly complicated to disguise its location. Quote
Gabe Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Gosh, so much going on since i've been gone! Sorry peeps, i thought i would be back on the forums earlier than this, but there was a big Lego convention in my town recently (Brickvention) and preparing for, surviving and cleaning up after that really consumed all my free time. I haven't even looked at all the challenge 1 stuff yet, looking forward to catching up on all of that! I've had a few PM's about UoP stuff (votes for old threads) , thanks heaps for that guys. Does anyone know what's going on with the UoP stuff atm? Has anyone been keeping track of what needs votes since i've been away, or has it kinda been taking care of itself? Been loving all the undead banter and jokes btw! Where do you dig them up from... (groan!) Quote

TheUtilityBelt Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 How do I "dot" the map? Do I print a pic and draw on it, 'cause that's what I did with my earlier post. Quote

gedren_y Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 @ TheUtilityBelt32: MS Paint is how I created my map of the Nestlands. It took mere minutes to create. @ Gabe: The undead jokes were my fault, but the idea that there were zombies in Lost Vega belongs to NM. I'll do some investigation on the UoP front today. Saw some of the Brickvention pics on your Flickr page. Looked like fun. ---------------- On a side note, I'll be at the Hoggetowne Medieval Faire this Saturday, and hopefully will come back with some ideas for GoH builds. Quote

They still haven't returned. Are you guys still fleecing them? They're pretty brainless most of the time. Quote

Lord Vladivus Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Unfortunately, they're pretty penniless most of the time too. They were talking about making checks in your name... Eh, the checks will be fakes. Tell you what, keep the zombies, have them work off their debt. I could probably arrange to send you more, I seem to have quite an excess after the assault on Shadowmere (Krell got over zealous with the resurrections). They don't need paying, sleep, or food (beyond brains, but just give them your unwanted customers to eat), so they're pretty easy to look after. They'll also keep doing whatever you want them to till you tell them to stop. Hmmmm. I may just set up a zombie slave business. All those dead bodies, put to good use- imagine it! Quote
NiceMarmot Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 They don't need paying, sleep, or food (beyond brains, but just give them your unwanted customers to eat) Hmmm, well, we'll probably have to move them out of Lost Vega, or they'll starve. Not much in the way of brains in that town, in either the customers or the staff... Regarding the maps, what do you think we should do about some of the towns that have never really had MOCs? There are some towns that were staked out by guild members long ago, but nothing has been built there, and the member hasn't been around in a long time. For instance, Belt Mutanji was discussed in this thread by thecolossus, but I don't think an MOC was ever built, and he hasn't posted on GoH in about a year. @Mike S -- did you ever build anything in Adskhan, or place a story there? Do you want to keep it named Adskhan, or free it up for someone else to name? If you're going to use it, no problem, as there are plenty of unnamed towns on the maps, or places for new towns. By the way, for newbies or people looking to establish new towns or position a story/MOC in a remote area, I'm certainly open to changing the geography on the maps, especially in remote areas. In other words, if you want me to add a river, or some mountains, or forest, or move / remove something, to fit with your story for a particular place, just let me know. As long as it's not a huge change, and not inconsistent with the existing surrounding landscape, it shouldn't be a problem. Cartography in our medieval age is not an exact science. Quote
Kayne Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I am working on some MOC's/story for Ras-El-Akhen. Should have some of them up soon Quote
gedren_y Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Belt Mutanji can stay where it's at, being on the southern face of Dun Nol. I may do something there. Quote

I think in the beginning we named a bunch of the towns without having anyone in them, could some of those still be left over? If so, I say keep the names. I couldn't even find Belt Mutanji on the map. The map does make me a little depressed, thinking of all those members that came and went. Even some of the ones we have added in the last 6 months have seemed to vanish. Quote
MKJoshA Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Those zombies had to get their brains to eat from somewhere... Quote

Even some of the ones we have added in the last 6 months have seemed to vanish. Yeah, I had some of the same feelings. For instance, Basiliscus, who was off to a great start with Stone Town and some of his phenomenal early builds, but seems to have disappeared about a year and a half ago. Some people do come back though, like Gabe. I'm not so concerned about the people who sign up, post a sigfig, and then disappear; it happens a lot. But the people who have an initial flurry of activity and then fade away are more of a bummer (recently NightStalker and runmymouth come to mind). Quote

Even some of the ones we have added in the last 6 months have seemed to vanish. It's a fluid thing. There's a lot of Book 1 builders that have gone now, and there's a lot of late Book 1 members that are the stalwarts keeping it going. I'm really only interested in MOCing castle, so I'm sticking around as much as I can, but I understand people's tastes change- some of the Historica guys are producing great MOCs in other parts of the forum. Maybe Book 3 will see them back. Nocty suffers, even the members we've added are vanishing after posting sig figs, and our most active members are ex -other guilds (minus me possibly, Nocty born and bred!), plus some other Book 1 members (Dr Rod). You guys are definitely the most family-like guild, I could swear you're all brothers and sisters the way y'all bat off of one another. The other guilds are nowhere near that level of familiarity- I guess it's because you kept your core membership from Book 1, and didn't lose people to other guilds. I must admit, if I had more tan bricks I'd quite like a spell in the desert. But I don't know if I can relinquish all the cool monsters and weird stuff in Nocty. I hope you can forgive an old Vampire his incoherent ramblings, he's bereft at losing his zombies to your casinos... Quote
