The Dean of the University of Petraea is pleased to announce the new Doctorate of Historica program! Check it out.

I wanted to get final approval from Ska first, but I think he's probably too busy with his upcoming wedding this weekend. We can change it later if he has any feedback. Thanks to everyone who helped with the design of the program!

Good tracking thread NM! I already started a post there, how do we handle when participants like me are claiming credits for recent builds? For example when I decide what to claim in my builds, will people head over to their respective threads and approve or disapprove those claims? (in my case since they already are dismantled, disapproving will result in me retracting the claim since I obviously cannot improve those points and reshoot)

I would btw advice you to put a link to the discussion thread in the tracking thread first post (I did for example not find that very easily when I wanted to write this so I wrote here instead because I'm lazy )

That's because I hadn't posted the main thread yet!

For recent builds (the "advanced placement" credits), list them in your tracking thread (like you did), plus post a reply to the MOC's own thread in which you state that you'd like to get DoH advanced placement for this build, and list what subjects you want to get for it. Also post a reply to the main DoH thread, with a link to your build, and state what subjects you'd like certification for.

Will do that! :classic:

Had an idea for a large tudor style building in LDD yesterday. Might use it for a Avalonian Embassy in the Nestlands someday. Right now it's 64x64, but will probably get bigger with roof overhang.

Sounds like a serious build! Can't wait to see it :classic:

gedren_y is getting close to becoming a Knight, so here's a WIP image. This is the facade of the Nestlands Clans High Ministry building for the Nestlands Market in Anticlimax Part 1.

Looking good gedren, looking forward to seeing how that progresses.

That's right! Big huge congratulations to Ska and his wife! Hope you had a great day!

Thirded from me - congrats Ska, hope the day went well! :classic:

Is everyone busy with the challenge and CCCXI, or would someone be up for exchanging some ideas about the Kaliphlin Community building of Sultan's Gate as we discussed way back?

I probably won't be able to build very much the coming weeks (and will need to focus my attention on getting some challenge builds done before Christmas), but in the open Kaliphlin spirit I think we of course should debate it to great length before getting down to actually building

From what I remember from our previous discussions and the maps, I have in mind something like a fortified town located on top of the Great Escarpment where trade is bustling. As an important caravan stop and trans-shipment site, it is a place where Kaliphlin traders meet with traders from both Nocturnus and Mitgardia to exchange goods from both north, east and south. Maybe there is a great bazaar there, or just many smaller market areas? Surely there are many store houses great and small, owned by various merchants and trading companies, as well as numerous taverns of all price ranges where business can be conducted and money cam spent on gambling, wine and other pleasures.

It is also a very valuable strategic location, since it guards the only scalable path (at least the only path not requiring dangerous rock climbing) up onto the Great Escarpment for many miles. As I recall it is an ancient fortification from the time when the Sultan ruled, which had become more or less ruined but that are repaired or being repaired to its former strength to protect this back door to Kaliphlin, as well as of course protecting the very important trade there.

I envision the landscape there to be more or less totally arid, although not very sandy since the fierce winds rushing over the crest of the escarpment tend to remove most of the sand in a wide area.

The town might be fed either with water from either a natural spring coming out further down through the wall of the escarpment (and carried up by some kind of machinery) or maybe more likely with an ancient aqueduct from the nearby foothills of the Rakath Mountains. In the latter case, there might be some agriculture there or at least some vegetation in the gardens within the town walls. There might even be a public bath house for the dusty and sweaty travellers to wash themselves in?

Sorry to say this, but with finals approaching, and an even worse semester following this, I'm going to be leaving GoH for a long period of time. Hope the challenges go well!

Sad to see you leave Nightstalker, Kaliplin will miss you.

Nightstalker, sorry to hear that you're taking a break. Study hard, and pop in to take a look around every now and then. Isn't it frustrating when the real world intrudes on our LEGO?

Gideon, I'd love to get involved in the Sultans Gate, but realistically I won't be available for it until after the challenge. But we can throw around ideas now.

I bought two cups worth of the LBG 1x2 masonry bricks today at the store. Unfortunately no dark tan. I think I know what I'll be using for the challenge B build!

I won't be building for that anytime soon either, my wife is still quite fed up with my building at the moment after the crazy time I put into my castle module for the Swebrick community build last month so I will have a hard time even getting building time to finish entries in all 3 categories of the challenge

Still so jealous of all of you who have Lego stores anywhere near you, and especially those with American pricing!

Fortunately, at least I managed to get half a cup of lbg "brick bricks" in Manchester before I built my castle :classic:

Congrats to Ska!

And I'm not going to have internet access for the better part of the next couple months, so I'm about to disappear here. I do plan on entering at least Category A though!

Having no internet access is even worse than not having access to the collection of bricks *huh*

 Yeah, between the two it's pretty bad...

It will be mainly the next month that I won't have internet. During the rest of our travels I probably won't have much building time but likely still access.

Actually, one of the worst things (at least I've found it so) about not having internet is how easy it is to do without it!

Congratulations Ska! And even more happy news in Kaliphlin, we had a baby girl yesterday.

Night stalker, good luck with your studies and do pop in even if you are not able to build for a while. Kai, good luck on your travels!

Gideon, my thoughts on sultans gate are exactly as you have it there. I am not sure if I will have much building time for a while though.

Congratulations!!

Not good for the building time however  (Even though I'm reluctant to admit it in a forum like this, there are more important things in life than ABS bricks :classic:)
